‘Terminator 2′ Chase Scene Recreated in ‘Grand Theft Auto V’

bloody disgusting - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 16:38

With nothing but a copy of Grand Theft Auto V, a love for Terminator 2, and some mean editing skills, YouTuber John Chapman has gone and captured my heart. Using all of the above, Chapman recreated one of the greatest scenes in the history of action movies — the canal chase. I can’t tell if watching this makes me want to play GTA V or watch T2 again.

And here’s the original scene, for optional comparison.

A Horde of News for The Witcher 3

Dread Central - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 16:32

The bird wrenches in the eye socket; squelches and snappings emanate from the cavity just before it spews out the back of the skull. My jaw was already agape in petrified adulation, but this was just the appetizer for the big news found in the pre-E3 trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, released today.

The real shrimp and lobster of the video came at its end - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, February 24, 2015.

Finally, a release date for the most anticipated RPG of the near future. This was all revealed via press conference by CD Projekt Red at 2 pm ET today.

This came with the announcement that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now available to be pre-ordered here!

It was accompanied with news that the standard edition of the game will come with additional items such as stickers, a game map, Witcher Universe-The Compendium, and a game soundtrack.

The collector's edition contains everything found in the standard edition and features a four-pound polystone statuette of the game’s hero, Geralt, battling a gryphon; a medallion; a one-of-a-kind steel box; and a 200-page art book, all of which are contained in a collector’s box.

The trailer broke a long lull in information or content from the developer since news of its delay from a fall 2014 release earlier this year. The trailer contains many hints at what will be featured in the upcoming game. Graphically, it appears to be a masterpiece. The cut scene visuals look nothing short of magical.

In the trailer a behemoth bear is displayed in attack mode, and each strand of its brown fur can be seen waving independently as it charges the camera. With the footage appearing to be in-game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt looks to deliver a rich graphical experience.

A tidbit of story is revealed as a ruler tells of a mysterious woman who has returned after many years and has the ever sadistic wild hunt chasing her. Geralt is charged with locating her so that the royalty may give her what she deserves.

A foreboding voice hints at a prophecy and an element of choice in the game’s storyline. Warning: Every decision you make will bring devastation. Each choice will lead to a greater evil.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

[BD Review] Geek & Sundry’s “Spooked” Pilot Delivers Laughs But No Scares

bloody disgusting - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 16:16

Bryan Singer’s production company, Bad Hat Harry, and Geek & Sundry premiered their new paranormal comedy series “Spooked” online yesterday. X-Men’s Bryan Singer acts as Executive Producer with Felicia Day, who also helped to pen the four-episode series with Michael Gene Conti. The first episode is packed with references to popular genre flicks like Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice. They make sure to cover all their bases, throwing in everything from self-stacking groceries to a Ouija board, but none of it adds up to anything horrific. Rather, this is a character-driven comedy infused with the lighter elements of paranormal investigation.

“Spooked” follows the “Paranormal Investigation Team” (P.I.T.), a motley crew of friends and lovers, who are kicking off their careers as investigators of the unknown. The pilot sees the team investigating a potential haunting in the house of a newly married lesbian couple. The speculation is that the ghost is one of their father’s who does not approve of their marriage, an interesting concept that demands the comedic tone they put forward. However, the press release states that the show “features the unpredictable, horrific and often comedic world of P.I.T. as they find themselves dealing with ghosts, aliens and other unexplainable happenings.” There is nothing “horrific” to be seen from the premiere.

I’ve always taken issue to the term horror-comedy. The two words are, in general, mutually exclusive terms that have been put side-by-side for years. However, more often than not the films/shows that claim such a label are all comedy, no horror. Such is the case with “Spooked”. While they have the paranormal plot and the named references to well-known horror movies, there is not one scare in the episode. This is always the struggle with horror/comedy. There are very few works that actually earn that genre split, delivering a mixture of scares and laughs. American Werewolf in London and Dellamorte Dellamore come to mind as two that actually balance the genres. “Spooked” is a comedy and nothing else. If you know this going in, you will enjoy it a lot more. Thankfully, it is a comedy with a heart. The show offers solid characters, a fun plot, and that unique brand of Geek & Sundry humor.

Director Richard Martin keeps it simple and the show is all the better for it. For a series shot on a relatively small budget, it looks great. The shots are crisp, and the lighting aptly fits the dark comedy tone. Martin focuses on the actors and their ability to deliver on the both drama and humor, and they shine through. There are a few jokes that fell flat for me, mostly the references to horror movies that felt like they were trying to hard to appeal to horror audiences. On the other hand, a few lines had me laughing out loud, a rare occurrence when I watch any sit-com.

The best humor (and drama) comes from the character interactions and their painfully awkward relationships. There is clearly a love connection between Connor, the head of the gang, and Morgan, the self-proclaimed shaman, but their obnoxious friend Elliot is clueless and continues hitting on her. The sibling relationship between Connor and his clairvoyant sister, Piper, is the most interesting, and there is plenty of potential for havoc down the line. This is precisely what I appreciate most about the show; they take a character-driven approach, and it feels more authentic for it.

I wish I could say I love the “Spooked” pilot, but I don’t. The show has potential to hit its stride, but with only four episodes that will be a difficult task. Hopefully they will focus less on referencing horror movies, and stick with what is interesting – the characters and their situations.

Eva Green Talks About the Sin City Side-Boob Massacre

Dread Central - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 16:11

We told you a few days ago that the MPAA was disturbed by the dark circular, barely visible appearance of Eva Green's nipple as well as her side-boob on the latest poster for Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For. Today we have the approved artwork as well as comments from Green herself.

"Oh, my God, I heard about that," she tells Vanity Fair regarding the uproar. "I find it a bit odd. It seems like it’s all just publicity—a lot of noise for nothing. You have so many more violent things in the movie business, and this is kind of soft."

She continues, "I’m not naked. It’s suggested. I find it really sexy, actually. It’s kind of beautiful. But if it shocks people, I don’t know what to do about it. I don’t want to upset anybody. I don’t want to be seen as just the femme fatale or put into some silly box. I hope that people will have enough imagination."

Check out the "offensive" poster below along with the approved one.

Survival Horror MMO ‘Nether’ Leaves Early Access

bloody disgusting - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 15:55

After several months of listening to player feedback and tweaking accordingly, Phosphor Games’ survival horror MMO Nether has left Steam Early Access in favor of a full release. I spent a couple hours with it back in February and while I wasn’t terribly impressed with what it had to offer back then, it’s seen some significant improvements and new features since then that make me want to give it a second chance.

Owners of the pre-release version will get a potion that turns the user into a Nether — one of the game’s monsters — as well as keys that can be used to gain access to the rare loot inside golden chests. If you’ve been waiting to be sold on Nether, it can be purchased on Steam for $14.99.

Ghostbusters Returns to Theaters in August; 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Set on the Way!

Dread Central - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 15:42

Back in 2011 Ghostbusters embarked on a bit of a theatrical revival, playing on screens across the country. I was lucky enough to experience the film on the big screen with an audience of fellow super fans, and it was quite frankly the geek equivalent of a religious experience...

One that I hope every fan of the film gets to experience at least once in their lifetime.

From the Press Release
Sony Pictures Entertainment will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its blockbuster franchise Ghostbusters with a series of special events and home entertainment releases. As a highlight of the celebration, the original 1984 film has been restored and remastered in 4K and will be returning to the big screen, in over 700 locations in the United States and Canada, for a limited engagement starting August 29 (Labor Day weekend).

Commenting on the announcement, Rory Bruer, president, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures, said, “Ghostbusters is still one of our studio’s most beloved franchises – I was lucky enough to work on the release of the film on its first run, so it’s a real thrill for me to see that it’s still connecting with audiences everywhere. On the big screen or in home entertainment, this is a great movie to experience again and again.”

Following the theatrical release of the film, on September 16, fans will be able to own the Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray and the Ghostbusters II 25th Anniversary Edition, as that film makes its Blu-ray debut. The Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases of the films will also be available in a two-disc anniversary edition Blu-ray™ Digibook including both films, as well as a Limited Edition gift set that includes an exclusive collectible Slimer figurine and the two-disc Digibook. This special gift set will only be available for a very limited time, with the collectible Slimer figurine being a true must-have for fans. Both films have been fully restored and remastered in 4K and will be presented in high definition on Blu-ray from those 4K sources.

Both the Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II Blu-rays come loaded with exclusive bonus materials, including revealing conversations with director Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd, as well as never-before-seen deleted scenes from Ghostbusters II and more. The Ghostbusters anniversary edition features the original music video of the Oscar® nominated song “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr., while Ghostbusters II includes the original music video for “On Our Own” by Bobby Brown. In addition, Ghostbusters will contain all previously released legacy content, commentary and an interactive Slimer Mode, offering fans a picture-in-picture graphical viewing experience.

“To celebrate this milestone anniversary, we wanted to create something new and collectible for fans. These new Ghostbusters Blu-rays will feature the highest quality presentation along with new content that reflects the rich history of this iconic franchise,” said Lexine Wong, Senior Executive Vice President, Worldwide Marketing, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Today also marks the premiere of the new website, GHOSTBUSTERS.COM, where fans can access new franchise offerings, including collectible merchandise, music, and more. Fans can register for updates, unique video content, as well as Ghostbusters news.

There will also be a slew of new merchandise from Sony Pictures Consumer Products to be released. Collaborations include Lego, Mattel, Funko, Mad Engine and other select items to help celebrate the occasion. In addition, SPCP partnered with Gallery 1988 to create a once-in a lifetime experience, displaying original paintings, limited edition prints, and sculptures inspired by the film.

Finally, Legacy Recordings / Sony Music Entertainment, will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Ghostbusters soundtrack with multiple collectible vinyl LP releases this year.

Josh Boone Talks Making The Stand a 3-Hour, R-Rated Movie

    Dread Central - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 15:34

While doing press for The Fault in Our Stars, opening this weekend, director Josh Boone was asked about The Stand, which he is slated to direct; and he had some optimistic words for fans of the massive Stephen King novel.

"We’re gonna do one, three-hour, R-rated version with an amazing A-list cast across the board," Boone (pictured) told Vulture. "Every single one of those characters will be somebody you recognize and somebody you relate to. And it’s gonna be awesome."

He continued, "I’m really excited. It’s the most exciting thing I’ve ever got to do in my entire life. If 12-year-old me had ever known that one day I’d be doing this, to even just go back and look at that kid, I’d be like, 'Keep doing what you’re doing!' It’s just crazy. I’ve met so many actors over the years... when I met Stephen King, I hugged him with tears in my eyes. He meant that much to me when I was young. I still say everything I learned about writing I learned from Stephen King. I don’t read screenplays. I don’t read screenplay how-to books. It’s always just establish the character. Establish the character."

Cast thus far is Boone's Fault co-star Nat Wolff, and we expect more announcements soon.

The Stand, which is being produced by Jimmy Miller and Roy Lee for Warner Bros. and CBS Films, is a story of good versus evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. It features dozens of characters (including such memorable ones as the Trashcan Man and Mother Abigail) and overlapping storylines running over many years as it tells of a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.

Severin Films Announces Trio of July Blu-ray Releases: Bloody Birthday, The Baby, and Bloody Moon

    Dread Central - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 15:27

It's always an exciting thing when horror flicks hit Blu-ray for the very first time, and Severin Films has three such debuts in store for us on July 8, inviting us to a Bloody Birthday, allowing us to hold The Baby, and encouraging us to howl at the Bloody Moon.

Read on for complete release details for all three!

    Bloody Birthday Synopsis
Get ready for the rarely seen slasher classic from the 80s that may also be the most disturbing "killer kids" movies in grindhouse history: Three babies are simultaneously born in the same hospital at the peak of a full solar eclipse. Ten years later, these adorable youngsters suddenly begin a kiddie killing spree of stranglings, shootings, stabbings, beatings, and beyond. Can the town's grown-ups stop these pint-sized serial killers before their blood-soaked birthday bash? K.C. Martel (E.T., "Growing Pains"), Joe Penny ("Jake and The Fat Man"), Michael Dudikoff (American Ninja), screen legends Susan Strasberg and José Ferrer, and MTV vixen Julie Brown, whose nude bedroom dance remains a landmark of celebrity skin, star in this still-controversial shocker from director Ed Hunt (The Brain, Diary of a Sinner), featuring an HD transfer from the original vault elements.

    Special Features:

  • Audio Interview with Director Ed Hunt
  • Don't Eat the Cake! Interview with Star Lori Lethin
  • A Brief History of Slasher Films Featurette

    The Baby Synopsis
An A-list director. A jaw-dropping storyline. And depraved depictions of suburban violence, 70s fashions, and "sick love". The result remains one of the most disturbing movies in Hollywood history: Anjanette Comer (The Loved One) stars as an idealistic L.A. County social worker who investigates the case of Mrs. Wadsworth (former 50s starlet Ruth Roman of Strangers on a Train fame), her two buxom daughters, and son "Baby", a mentally-disabled man who sleeps in a crib, eats in a high-chair, crawls, bawls, and wears diapers. But what secrets of unnatural attachment - and sexual obsession - are all of these women hiding? Marianna Hill (The Godfather Part II) and Michael Pataki (Grave of the Vampire) co-star in this psychotic stunner from director Ted Post (Magnum Force, Beneath the Planet of the Apes), restored from the original film negative for the first time ever on Blu-ray.

    Special Features:

  • Audio Interview with Director Ted Post
  • Audio Interview with Star David Mooney
  • Theatrical Trailer

    Bloody Moon Synopsis
As the "body count" genre stabbed its way into audiences' hearts in the early '80s, EuroTrash auteur Jess Franco (Sadomania, Mansion of the Living Dead) was asked to create his own saga of slaughtered schoolgirls complete with gratuitous nudity, graphic violence, and gory set pieces. But just when you thought you'd seen it all, Franco shocked the world by delivering surprising style, genuine suspense, and a cavalcade of depravity that includes incest, voyeurism, and roller disco. The luscious Olivia Pascal of Vanessa fame stars in this twisted thriller that was banned in England yet is now presented uncut and uncensored - including the complete "stone mill power saw" sequence - for the first time ever on Blu-ray!

  • Franco Moon - Interview with Director Jess Franco

Capcom Confirms ‘Dead Rising 3′ for PC

    bloody disgusting - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 15:08

That didn’t take long. Less than a day has passed since Dead Rising 3 was spotted on SteamDB and Capcom has already confirmed its impending arrival on Valve’s platform. The game will be dropping its Xbox One exclusivity and coming to PC this summer. If you’ve had Dead Rising 3 on your radar, I’ve heard it’s pretty good, though I would recommend staying away from its DLC.

Is it just me, or is there suddenly a lot of rap in recent video game trailers?

Eva Green Responds to MPAA Rejecting Her ‘Sin City’ Poster

    bloody disgusting - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 15:08

Even though the Eva Green sideboob/MPAA incident was clearly a PR stunt by TWC-Dimension, it doesn’t mean that the actress was privy to all that happened. In fact, many actors/actresses aren’t consulted on completed films and their promotional materials (unless it’s stated in their contract), and in other cases their too busy working on a new project to give a shit.

What that said, I’m actually interested in seeing what Green had to say about the Sin City: A Dame to Kill For poster that was rejected by the MPAA “for nudity — curve of under breast and dark nipple/areola circle visible through sheer gown.

    Via Vanity Fair:

“Oh, my God, I heard about that,” she said of the uproar. “I find it a bit odd. It seems like it’s all just publicity—a lot of noise for nothing. You have so many more violent things in the movie business and this is kind of soft. I’m not naked. It’s suggested.”

“I find it really sexy, actually,” she said. “It’s kind of beautiful. But if it shocks people, I don’t know what to do about it. I don’t want to upset anybody.”

“I don’t want to be seen as just the femme fatale or put into some silly box. I hope that people will have enough imagination.”

Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens August 22.

We just received a press release announcing that a 4k restored and remastered Ghostbusters will return to more than 700 movie theaters in both the U.S. and Canada on August 29.

I think I just slimed myself.

This is huge news for hardcore fans like myself as we’ll be able to introduce this classic to our younger family members, who will get to experience this masterpiece for the first time in theaters! I just pray to god that this theatrical run isn’t being pushed through Fathom Events, in which case I want nothing to do with it. I expect this new digital transfer to be flawless.

But it gets event better. This isn’t just a re-release of the classic, it’s a major event.

Following the theatrical release of the film, on September 16, fans will be able to own the Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray and the long-gestured Ghostbusters II 25th Anniversary Edition, as that film makes its Blu-ray debut. The Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases of the films will also be available in a two-disc anniversary edition Blu-ray Digibook including both films, as well as a Limited Edition gift set that includes an exclusive collectible Slimer figurine and the two-disc Digibook.

The Ghostbusters anniversary edition features the original music video of the Oscar nominated song “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr., while Ghostbusters II includes the original music video for “On Our Own” by Bobby Brown. In addition, Ghostbusters will contain all previously released legacy content, commentary and an interactive Slimer Mode, offering fans a picture-in-picture graphical viewing experience.

In addition, Legacy Recordings / Sony Music Entertainment, will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Ghostbusters soundtrack(!) with multiple collectible vinyl LP releases this year.

Today also marks the premiere of the new website, GHOSTBUSTERS.COM, where fans can access new franchise offerings, including collectible merchandise, music, and more. Fans can register for updates, unique video content, as well as Ghostbusters news.

Directed and produced by Ivan Reitman (Meatballs, Stripes), with the screenplay written by Dan Aykroyd (My Girl) and Harold Ramis (Knocked Up), Ghostbusters is listed as No. 28 on the AFI’s List of America’s Funniest Movies. Bill Murray (Stripes), Dan Aykroyd (Blues Brothers), and Sigourney Weaver (Aliens) star, along with Harold Ramis (Groundhog Day), and Rick Moranis (Honey I Shrunk the Kids). Ernie Hudson (TV’s “Oz”) and Annie Potts (TV’s “Designing Women”) also star in the films.

University parapsychologists Dr. Peter Venkman (Murray), Dr. Raymond Stanz (Aykroyd) and Dr. Egon Spengler (Ramis) lose a research grant when their experiment methodology is proven to be bogus. The team decides to go into business for themselves and open ‘Ghostbusters,’ a ghost removal service. After struggling to get on their feet, they are summoned to investigate the strange happenings in Dana Barrett’s (Weaver) Central Park West apartment. What they discover is that all Manhattan is being besieged by ghosts and other worldly demons through a portal in her building.

5 Questions With ‘Willow Creek’ Director Bobcat Goldthwait!

    bloody disgusting - Thu, 06/05/2014 - 14:00

MPI/Dark Sky Films will release Willow Creek in theaters and demand on June 6. I finally saw the film yesterday before my interview with director Bobcat Goldthwait and I have to say I really dug it. I’m usually leery of found footage features, but this movie wins out by concentrating on characters that are actually engaging (rather than onscreen camera operating ciphers).

I really enjoyed my conversation with Goldthwait, which covered a number of topics. But I also really want you to see this movie, so I’ve whittled it down to the Willow Creek essentials.

I watch a lot of found footage horror, so I’m always trepidatious. But I think you made the last really good one.

Thanks! Yeah I’m not a fan of found footage but unlike you I’m not forced to watch millions of them. I’m always wondering who found the footage? “I’m sorry your family got raped and murdered but I’ve edited together a beautiful picture here.”

I really liked these characters. Their chemistry plays a huge part in the movie’s appeal.

That was one of the things that interested me in the movie. That you make these real people. That you empathize with them. In genre movies you usually not only hate the characters, you sometimes hate them so much that you hate the actors playing them. I think sometimes we’re supposed to be identifying with and rooting for the monsters to kill the teenagers. I thought it would be more interesting if these were real people you identified with before terrible things happened to them. I’m really not a fan of letting the audience live vicariously through stuff.

Like, in Falling Down, when Michael Douglas’ character kills someone, we find out that the character happens to be an actual Nazi. A Nazi living in Silverlake. And that was so the audience wouldn’t think that Michael Douglas was a bad guy. In God Bless America I just had people being killed and at first I wanted the audience to be going along with it and not rooting for it. But then I kind of wanted the wheels to fall off and make you squirm and question your own self.

It’s so insane to pick and choose which violent behaviors are acceptable. It should either be that none of it is or all of it is.

I know you’ve worked with Alexie Gilmore a lot. Did you write it with her in mind and cast Bryce [Johnson] later?

I was traveling around just for fun, visiting all of these major Bigfoot places in California. And I had a couple of different ideas for a movie. I thought I would do a Christopher Guest type comedy that takes place at a Bigfoot convention. And when I came back I was talking to Joe Lynch and I said, “you know this really lends itself to found footage but I know that’s really played out.” And he said, “I know you’d do a Western and you’re trying to do a Musical, why won’t you do a found footage movie?” That’s what motivated it.

So once I decided on that I wanted to get two actors who I would love working with but who I would also believe as a couple. And the other challenge, I’m a fan of Joe Swanberg, Lynn Shelton and the Duplass Brothers and I wanted to know if I could pull off a film that was just an outline, if I knew enough about making films to do that. That was the other part of this movie.

Also, one of the films that influenced this movie was Grizzly Man.

I was thinking of Timothy Treadwell while I was watching it! These characters aren’t as nuts, but I see that.

His folly is still their downfall. And Paper Heart was also an influence believe it or not. I liked what Charlene [Yi] did by taking real interviews and mixing it in with the narrative. I knew that if I interviewed enough people they would want to tell the characters stories and tell them not to go into the woods.

Did you grow up fascinated by Bigfoot?

I was totally into it as a little boy. And that was from The Legend Of Boggy Creek mainly. I’m a weird mixture of being cynical but at the same time wanting to live in a world where Bigfoot lives. I think all of the movies I make are in that weird area.
