It’s time to unleash our primal animal nature and succumb to the unbridled cravings for a generous dose of suspense, unspeakable desires and good old-fashioned horror storytelling! On January 21, 2014, Scream Factory is proud to present the provocative 1982 thriller Cat People Collector’s Edition Blu-ray. Directed by Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull), this memorable cult hit is a remake of 1942 Jacque Tourneur horror noir classic. The all-star cast includes Nastassja Kinski (Tess, Savior), Malcolm McDowell ( A Clockwork Orange), John Heard (Prison Break, The Sopranos), Annette O’Toole (48 hrs), and features music by Giorgio Morotor (Top Gun, Flash Dance) with the “Cat People” theme sung by legendary artist David Bowie.
For the first time ever on Blu-ray, this definitive collector’s edition of Cat People features anamorphic widescreen movie presentation and is packed with a bounty of special bonus content, a collectible cover featuring newly rendered retro-style artwork, a reversible wrap with original theatrical key art and more!
Also arriving in stores everywhere on January 21, 2014, Scream Factory invites collectors and movie aficionados to dive into the horror classic Die Monsters Die (a.k.a. Monster of Terror). A film by Daniel Haller (The Dunwich Horror) and starring original “Frankenstein” Boris Karloff, Nick Adams (Invasion of Astro-Monster) and Suzan Farmer (Dracula: Prince of Darkness , 1966), this entertaining, quirky cinema classic is a loose adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s short story “The Colour Out of Space.”
A remake of the 1942 Jacques Tourneur horror/noir classic, Cat People stars Nastassja Kinski as Irena, a beautiful young woman who discovers love for the first time only to find that the experience brings tragic consequences. The tremendous passion of this girl’s first romantic love is so strong, however, it bypasses the chaos around her – including the extraordinary demands of her brother (Malcolm McDowell) – as it pushes her on to her own bizarre destiny. Written and Directed by Paul Schrader , this erotic fantasy about the passion and terror surrounding this first love also stars John Heard, Annette O’Toole, Ruby Dee and Lynn Lowry.
Special Features Include: New interviews with writer/director Paul Schrader, Nastassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell, John Heard, Annette O’Toole , Lynn Lowry and composer Giorgio Moroder, Theatrical Trailer, Still Gallery.
WithanO Productions just released the theatrical trailer for Muck.
Muck stars the horror legend Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th 7-10, Hatchet) and the new Scream Queen, 2012 Playboy Playmate of the Year, Jaclyn Swedberg.
Here’s the massive plot synopsis: “On this Feast of Saint Patrick, the lucky ones are already dead…”
Muck was filmed completely on the Red Epic in Ultra HD over the course of 19 grueling all-night shoots. Shot entirely on location in the swamps and marshes of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Besides the Horror Legend and Playmate of the Year, Muck features a cast of up-and-coming actors, led by Australian hunk Lachlan Buchanan (“Newcastle”, “Pretty Little Liars”, and “NCIS: Red”) and Indian beauty Puja Mohindra.
The mix of metal and dubstep is a really tricky blend that can go horribly wrong with much greater ease than it can go right. However, Celldweller‘s “Unshakeable”, which comes from 2012′s Wish Upon A Blackstar, is that rare song that not only gets it right but it flat out knocks it right out of the park (seriously, listen to the song and try not to get pumped when the “drops” hit). And I must not be the only one who thought so as Grammy-nominated EDM musician BT has teamed up with Seamless to remix the track, giving it a much more electronic feel.
Listen to the remix below and then snag it on iTunes!
Way back in 2008 Knott’s Haunt in California hosted a Quarantine maze, which was based on the film remake of Filmax’s [REC] franchise.
With the fourth film in production, [REC] has quite the following in Spain, so much so that they have their own Halloween maze!
Entitled “REC Passage”, the event is part of PortAventura in Europe. Explains the translation, you’ll experience 15 minutes of walking in darkness where characters make you feel the real fear in five different scenarios based on the Filmax series.
There are moments of real panic and awesome effects. “Laser Effects disorient you and large movie screens that will transport you to the most terrifying moments from [REC], [REC]2, and [REC]3. The monsters will chase you and will make the 15 minutes it takes this passage to be a nightmare from which you can not wake up.”
PortAventura TV shared the following video of director Jaume Balaguero walking through the experience.
Thanks to a tip by ‘Chris O.’ we’ve learned that a gruesome Halloween display in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn has drawn heated controversy, with some calling it a work of art and others saying it crosses a line, CBS reports.
As CBS 2’s Tamara Leitner reported Tuesday, some residents called the display “demonic,” while others called it “brilliant and creative.”
The porch of the Bergen Street brownstone with the display has been turned into what appears to be a torture chamber, they explain in the following video. A surgeon with a jack-o-lantern head operates on a bloody baby doll, hooked up to an IV.
Other dolls are impaled, decapitated and mutilated, with knives or nails in their heads or skewers impaling their bodies. Another looks plaintively out of a bird cage, and another still is chained to a chair.
One doll even has a smaller doll emerging from a bloody gash in its belly, reminiscent of the Alien movies.
Before arriving on DVD and Blu-ray December 10 from Asylum, “Zombie Night” will premiere on Syfy Saturday, October 26 at 9/8c as part of the networks “31 Days of Halloween”.
The feature was helmed by Feast and Piranha 3DD‘s John Gulager, and stars Daryl Hannah, Anthony Michael Hall, Alan Ruck, Shirley Jones, and Jennifer Taylor.
In it, “Two families in a small American town face off against zombies in a long night of horror, torn between helping each other and saving themselves.“
More casting news has come for another film from Blumhouse Productions, Curve, as Teddy Sears has signed on to bring a little bit of terror to this tale. Read on for details.
According to The Wrap, Sears (pictured), who currently stars on Showtime’s “Masters of Sex,” has landed the lead role opposite Julianne Hough in Blumhouse’s micro-budget horror-thriller. Hough stars as a young bride-to-be who is trapped in her overturned car off a deserted highway after she deliberately crashes it in an attempt to escape a charming, predatory hitchhiker (Sears).
Universal is distributing with Jason Blum producing through his Blumhouse Productions along with Jaume Collet-Serra, Julie Yorn, and Juan Sola. Erik Olsen is executive producing. Lee Patterson is doing a rewrite on the script with the original draft coming from Kimberly Lofstrom Johnson. Exec VP of production Scott Bernstein will oversee the project for Universal.
Roadshow Films has provided Bloody Disgusting with a batch of hi-res imagery from Gregg McLean’s hotly anticipated Wolf Creek 2 which also has an Australian trailer for its November 22 release.
John Jarratt returns as the killer Mick Taylor, with Ryan Corr, Shannon Ashlyn and Philipe Klaus also starring in this sequel to the popular Sundance slasher acquired by Dimension Films. No word on who will release the sequel, yet…
“Lured by the promise of an Australian holiday, backpackers Rutger, Katarina, and Paul visit the notorious Wolf Creek Crater. Their dream Outback adventure soon becomes a horrific reality when they encounter the site’s most infamous local, the last man any traveler to the region ever wants to meet; Mick Taylor (John Jarratt). As the backpackers flee, Mick pursues them on an epic white knuckled rampage across hostile wasteland. Only one will remain to be dragged back to his lair to witness the true magnitude of his monstrosity. And if the last man standing is to have any hope of surviving where no one else has survived before, he’ll have to use every ounce of cunning to outwit the man behind the monster and become every bit as ruthless as the monster inside the man.“
If you’re going to be attending the Housecore Horror Film & Music Festival in Austin, Texas tomorrow or over this weekend, then first of all I am very jealous and might hate you just a little bit (but only a little). Secondly, you’ll have the opportunity to pick up a limited edition 10″ vinyl that features two unreleased tracks from Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, brought to you by the fine folk over at Scion A/V.
Below you can listen to “Ugly Mug”, the first of the two tracks. And if that gets you pumped and excited then be sure to check back tomorrow as we will be exclusively premiering the second track, “Pigs Kissing Pigs”, which will be available as a free download!

Word has rolled into our offices that The Banshee Chapter (review) has scored itself some distro across the pond, and with it have come some new images.
From the Press Release
Newly formed Intense Distribution and 101 Films are pleased to announce they have acquired the UK rights to the acclaimed horror/thriller BANSHEE CHAPTER, written and directed by Blair Erickson and starring Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs), Katia Winter (‘Dexter’, ‘Sleepy Hollow’) and Michael McMillian (‘True Blood’).
The film focuses on Anne Roland (Katia Winter), a young journalist with an appetite for controversy, as she follows the trail of a strange government research chemical that might have caused the death of her close friend (Michael McMillian). After tracing the substance to the desert ranch of an infamous retired novelist (Ted Levine), she’s drawn into an experience of terror and frightening entities that she cannot escape. The events in this film are based on real documents, actual testimony, and evidence researched and uncovered from decades of a terrifying secret program run by the CIA.
BANSHEE CHAPTER received its World Premiere at FILM4 FrightFest, London, in August and has been selected to screen at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, where it will receive its North American premiere on October 24th, followed by screenings at the New York Horror Festival and the Australian Monster Festival.
The film was produced by Stephanie Riggs, Christian Arnold-Beutel (‘Ironclad’, ‘The Ledge’) and Before the Door’s Corey Moosa and Sean Akers. Zachary Quinto (‘Star Trek’, ‘American Horror Story’, ‘Heroes’) and Neal Dodson executive produced with Marcus Schoefer and Gudrun Giddings.
“We are so happy BANSHEE CHAPTER has found a home in the UK. Intense Distribution and 101 Films are great partners and will help us make sure the film reaches a wide range of fans through a multi-platform distribution model,” said Zachary Quinto.
Producer Christian Arnold-Beutel said “We strongly believe in BANSHEE CHAPTER, which was named scariest film of the 51 movies at this year’s Film4 FrightFest by Total Film, to be intelligent entertainment based on true events specifically relevant to what is happening in the US these days and existing phenomena like MKUltra, DMT and number stations. BANSHEE CHAPTER was shot in stereoscopic 3D and possibly the last 3D screening at the big screen of the Empire Cinema. We are excited about working with Chee’s Intense Distribution and the team at 101 Films as they are truly enthusiastic about our movie, hard working and very experienced in what has become a challenging market.”
Chee Keong Cheung who heads up Intense Distribution, a newly formed division of his production outfit Intense Productions said: “After such a strong response at Frightfest, together with 101 Films, we’re incredibly excited to have the opportunity to bring BANSHEE CHAPTER to UK audiences. It’s an extremely tense, atmospheric picture with a truly unique and horrific blend of fact and fiction.” Cheung adds “Intense Distribution was formed with the goal of working closely with both established and up and coming directors and producers on their films and I couldn’t have hoped for a better, more passionate, diverse and talented group of filmmakers to work with for our companies debut release.”
Cheung’s Intense Productions division is currently in development on the action/horror film ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, executive produced by Carlos Gallardo (‘El Mariachi’, ‘Desperado’) and Kevin Eastman (co-creator of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’) slated for production in 2014.
101 Films releases include the Scottish Cannibal horror SAWNEY: FLESH OF MAN and the re-release of the original 1978 cult film I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. Andy Lyon of 101 Films added “101 Films is very proud to be involved with BANSHEE CHAPTER. This was our number 1 target at Frightfest this year and we are very much looking forward to working with Chee and Christian in making BANSHEE CHAPTER another Successful 101 release in 2014. 101 is one of the fastest growing film labels in the UK and the acquisition of this fantastic movie is another step forward for 101.”
The deal was negotiated by Chee Keong Cheung of Intense Distribution, Andy Lyon of 101 Films and Producer Christian Arnold-Beutel on behalf of BC Distribution.
The UK release of BANSHEE CHAPTER is a joint venture between Intense Distribution and 101 Films.
BANSHEE CHAPTER is scheduled for release in the UK in January 2014. Further details to be announced.
