Enter the ‘Legend of Hell House’ On Blu-ray

bloody disgusting - Thu, 05/29/2014 - 13:21

For the sake of your sanity, pray it isn’t true!

Scream Factory brings you The Legend of Hell House (one of my personal favorite horror films) on Blu-ray on August 26!

Special features include a new interview with Director John Hough, a new audio commentary with actress Pamela Franklin, and the theatrical trailer.

It sits here, shrouded in mist and mystery, a nesting place for living evil and terror from the dead. It’s Hell House. Roddy McDowall heads the cast of this exciting chiller about four psychic investigators and the dark, brooding mansion they call “the Mt. Everest of haunted houses.” It’s already destroyed one team of researchers. Now this brave quartet ventures in for another try at unraveling its secrets. But before they succeed, they must suffer through madness, murder and everything else that the spirits who dwell here have in store for them. Yet learning the truth just might drive them all insane.

An ingeniously devised ghost story, The Legend Of Hell House will thrill and delight veteran horror fans from the first creaking door to the very last slithering shadow.

Dad Makes ‘Aliens’ Powerloader Costume For Daughter!

bloody disgusting - Thu, 05/29/2014 - 13:01

In response to our rants yesterday about this insane Predator costume, readers sent us a link to the following video that trumps it – by a million.

I’m ready to trade fathers after seeing what Carsten Riewe assembled for his 13-month-old daughter.

Created for the Karneval Parade in Germany, what you see below is the little girl “driving” the Caterpillar P-5000 Powerloader from James Cameron’s 1986 Aliens.

The arms and legs are full moveable and the top-light and LED were powered by an 12 Volt battery pack stored in the backpack. The on/off switch is in the left arm. Also in the backpack a Bluetooth boombox is installed to play mechanical robot sound fx or music if preferred. It took 100 working hours to finish the costume and I built it for the “Karneval”-Parade in my hometown in Germany February 2014 . My 13 months old daughter enjoyed to be carried and moved in her harness safely.

It looks pretty safe until he walks the Powerloader into the street and a car flies by (now that’s suspense!).

Eva Green’s ‘Sin City’ Sideboob Gets Censored By the MPAA

bloody disgusting - Thu, 05/29/2014 - 13:00

The MPAA has been especially bad.

Anytime I hear about the MPAA censoring a poster it reminds me of how they forced Universal to remove a single sperm from the one-sheet of the 2004 Seed of Chucky (see it here).

Apparently, Eva Green is just too sexy for the poster of her upcoming sequel to Sin City, or so the MPAA believes. The actress is seen in a sheer robe in the poster for Dimension Films’ and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Page Six shares the art and reports that the poster was disapproved by the MPAA “for nudity — curve of under breast and dark nipple/areola circle visible through sheer gown.

Dimension declined to comment but it is believed execs are working on a compromise with the MPAA before the sequel opens August 22.

IFC Dates ‘At the Devil’s Door,’ Formerly ‘Home’ (Exclusive)

bloody disgusting - Thu, 05/29/2014 - 12:56

The Pact director Nicholas McCarthy’s newest supernatural horror, Home, world premiered at SXSW this past March where it was acquired by IFC Midnight.

Newly titled At the Devil’s Door, IFC Midnight will release the film pre-theatrically on VOD/digital on August 8 with theatrical release to follow on September 12, Bloody Disgusting learned exclusively.

After IFC acquired the movie at South by Southwest they floated the idea that a more genre-direct title might help the movie reach its audience,” said McCarthy. “I agreed and came back at them with AT THE DEVIL’S DOOR. I love the title and think it captures what this movie is. I can’t wait to unleash it on to the world!

In the supernatural horror starring Naya Rivera, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Ashley Rickards, Wyatt Russell and Ava Acres, when ambitious young real estate agent Leigh is asked to sell a house with a checkered past, she crosses paths with a disturbed girl whom she learns is the runaway daughter of the couple selling the property. When Leigh tries to intervene and help her, she becomes entangled with a supernatural force that soon pulls Leigh’s artist sister Vera into its web — and has sinister plans for both of them.

The film was produced and financed by Sonny Mallhi’s Candlewood entertainment.

“Rot & Ruin”, Another Jonathan Maberry Comic From IDW

bloody disgusting - Thu, 05/29/2014 - 12:34

A new zombie series is making its way to IDW Publishing. “Rot & Ruin” is based in the world created by the Bram Stoker award-winning Jonathan Maberry in his novel of the same name. Maberry has been making big steps in the comic book realm as of late with “V-Wars”, “Bad Blood”, and now this. Joining the prolific horror writer will be Tony Vargas on interior art.

The series takes place 15 years after the zombie plague begins, and sees a group of children as they are forced to make difficult choices while fending off the undead. There is no release date set.

From the press release:

San Diego, CA (May 29, 2014) – IDW and multiple Bram Stoker award-winning author, Jonathan Maberry bring the untold stories from the zombie post-apocalyptic world of Rot & Ruin to comic books this September.

This all-new series is set in a world fifteen years after the dead have risen and vastly outnumber the survivors of the zombie-apocalypse. In the aftermath, humanity has found a way to live a marginal existence by forming fenced-in towns where everyone has a job to do in order to survive. As in the award-winning novels, the comic series will center on Benny Imura and his friends as they make their way in a world where the zombies aren’t always the greatest danger.

“The Rot & Ruin isn’t about how many zombies you can kill or how much gore you can sling around the page,” said writer Mayberry, “These are stories about real kids making hard choices about their lives. It’s about kids learning how to become powerful in a hard and dangerous world. It’s about finding the value of human life and discovering what it means to be alive.”

The ongoing Rot & Ruin comic book series will follow Benny, Nix, Lilah and Chong as they head east in their journey to find what they thought was impossible, a jumbo jet. In their travels they will encounter countless new dangers that will force them to confront what they and others are willing to do in order to bring humanity back to its former glory.

Maberry’s Rot & Ruin bestselling novels have been winning library and school awards all over the country as heartfelt action books that encourage teens to read. The series is now in development for film.

Rot & Ruin will come alive with the help of artist Tony Vargas (Temple Run) and colorist Oliver Lee Acre, with stunning covers by Alex Ronald (Vampire Vixens, Judge Dredd).

‘Hungerford’ Invaded By Malevolent Aliens (Trailer)

bloody disgusting - Thu, 05/29/2014 - 12:20

Hungerford, a new British horror sci-fi film, directed by 19-year-old Drew Casson, will get its World Premiere at the National Film Theatre in London on 3 May as part of this year’s Sci-Fi London Film Festival.

Produced by talent incubator Wildseed Studios and shot in a vlog style, Hungerford paints a thrilling and visceral portrait of a small English town taken over by aliens, which descends into violence and carnage.

“Hungerford’s teen protagonist is Cowen Rosewell, a media student whose first assignment is to record everything in a week of his life. The random acts of violence he films go largely unnoticed, dismissed as the type of trouble to take place in small English towns. However, when one of his best friends is savagely attacked by a stranger a more disturbing reality emerges.

As events escalate, Cowen and his friends discover that the town has come under a mysterious evil influence which is somehow controlling organised gangs to round people up and take them to a nearby disused factory. The friends hide, hoping to escape, but their sanctuary is discovered. As Cowen makes his way alone to the abandoned factory in search of his loved ones, the malicious force that awaits him there threatens not Cowen, but the entire world.

Exclusive Raze Gag Reel Will Break Your Funny Bones

Dread Central - Thu, 05/29/2014 - 12:00

There's no doubt, while the fists were flying in Raze (review), available now on DVD courtesy of IFC Films, some funny hijinx had to ensue. Don't believe us? We've got the exclusive video proof!

From the Press Release
At the unforgiving intersection of Chained Heat, TV's "Spartacus," and "Orange Is the New Black," stands RAZE, a viscerally thrilling new action-horror film where it's every woman for herself.

The brutal shocker, director Josh C. Waller's "self-assured debut" (Los Angeles Times), comes to DVD from IFC Films and MPI Media Group on May 20, 2014, with an SRP of $24.98.

After she is drugged and abducted, Jamie (Rachel Nichols; Star Trek, "Continuum") awakens to find herself in a concrete bunker, where she meets fellow abductee Sabrina (stuntwoman-turned-action star Zoe Bell; Death Proof, Kill Bill, Oblivion). Before long the two women discover that they are in a modern-day coliseum, where they and 48 other women have been selected to fight to the death. If they refuse, their loved ones will be killed.

Co-starring genre favorites Doug Jones (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy) and Sherilyn Fenn ("Twin Peaks") as the sadistic organizers of the battles, RAZE is director Josh C. Waller's (McCanick) no-holds-barred assault on the senses, featuring some of the most brutal fist-to-the-face combat ever put on film. In this contest, may the best woman win.

Extensive bonus features on the DVD include filmmaker commentary, cast and crew interviews, a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes, extended fight scenes, gag reel, and more.

Neil Genzlinger of The New York Times said, "There is food for thought here about the subjugation and exploitation of women, the limits of psychological and physical endurance, and more." "As violent as it is, RAZE is refreshing," wrote Shannon M. Houston of Paste magazine. Brian Orndorf of Blu-ray.com called the film "strong stuff, but also briskly paced and interested in the psychological ramifications of such unrelenting brutality." Matt Zoller Seitz of RogerEbert.com praised, "If RAZE had been released in 1975, Quentin Tarantino would never shut up about it."

We told you about a month ago that Dread Central teamed with Jesse Baget's Ruthless Pictures for the anthology Zombieworld, comprised of short films made by YOU, the readers and fans. The response has been tremendous and it will only get better!

We've gotten several dozen e-mails asking us for just a bit more time to polish your projects and so... we're now giving you that opportunity! The NEW deadline to submit your film will be June 20th. That's three more weeks so get moving, kids!

From the Press Release
Image Entertainment, an RLJ Entertainment (NASDAQ: RLJE) brand, has acquired Ruthless Pictures' no-holds-barred zombie fest ZOMBIEWORLD, in association with DreadCentral.com. Image Entertainment’s Vice President of Acquisition Mark Ward made the announcement today.

“We’re eager to distribute this project because it embodies what independent filmmaking is all about: passion and creativity,” said Ward. “We’re always looking for new talent, and ZOMBIEWORLD takes storytelling to a new level that horror fans will not only enjoy but also surely rally around and support.”

ZOMBIEWORLD is a horror anthology focusing on survivors across the world as they struggle to overcome horrifying circumstances when a pandemic brings forth a zombie apocalypse. The collection of blood, guts, and mayhem will be brought to life by a group of new and up-and-coming directors from around the world that Ruthless Pictures and Dread Central will handpick from short film entries received between April 21 and June 20, 2014, on Dread Central.com. The work of each chosen director will be featured in the film and will bring his or her take to a world now populated with flesh-eating corpses. Among the brilliant shorts to be included in ZOMBIEWORLD is Peter Horn and Jared Marshall’s "Dark Times," a blood-splattered scamper through the woods shot entirely in POV, where zombies, aliens, and even Santa Claus make an appearance.

“As a fan of the zombie genre, I’m thrilled to be part of this film,” said Ruthless Pictures producer Jesse Baget. “ZOMBIEWORLD will showcase the unique visions of young talented filmmakers and inject fresh new blood into the genre.”

“Jesse Baget and Ruthless Pictures burst onto the scene, opening big doors for young filmmakers,” said Dread Central’s Steve Barton. “Dread Central has always been an incredibly indie-friendly site among the major genre outlets, and we’re excited to help give up-and-coming filmmakers a platform to get noticed. Image Entertainment is a go-to source for quality horror entertainment, and with Image ZOMBIEWORLD will have the opportunity to be shown worldwide.”

The deal was negotiated by Image Entertainment’s Jess De Leo and Grace Feeney and Jesse Baget on behalf of the filmmakers.

Send us your entry via the form you see below with a private link or the actual HD file of your film. From there both Ruthless Pictures and Dread Central staff will watch the films and select the best of the best to be included in the project, and selected winners will also nab themselves $100 in the process. But what if your film is the best of the best? Well then, not only will you be included in the anthology, we'll also hand over to you a check for $500.

Grapple with this Clip from Salem Episode 1.07 - Our Own Private America

    Dread Central - Thu, 05/29/2014 - 10:30

Cotton and Alden grapple with the aftermath of their interrogation of their captive — and the consequences of possessing the Malum — in this new clip from Sunday night's Episode 1.07 of "Salem," entitled "Our Own Private America."

Along with the clip we have an expanded synopsis for the ep, in which Stephen Lang (Avatar) guest stars as Increase Mather, the greatest witch hunter of Salem’s time.

"Salem" explores what really fueled the town's infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth behind them.

Related Story: Visit our "Salem" Archive

The series stars Janet Montgomery as the ruthless but vulnerable Mary Sibley, Salem’s most powerful enchantress; Shane West as handsome, hardened war veteran John Alden – and Mary’s onetime love interest; Seth Gabel as local aristocrat Cotton Mather, who fans the flames of Salem’s witch hunt; Ashley Madekwe as Mary’s mysterious, carnal accomplice, Tituba; Xander Berkeley as chief politician Magistrate Hale; Tamzin Merchant as the forthright Anne Hale, an artist with a perilous attraction to Alden; Elise Eberle as the mysteriously afflicted Mercy Lewis; and Iddo Goldberg as outcast Isaac Walton.

"Salem" Episode 1.07 - "Our Own Private America" (airs 6/1/14)
When a shakeup within the coven leaves Mary with more power than ever, she hatches her most nefarious plan yet to bring the witches closer to achieving the Grand Rite. Alden and Cotton, reeling from the aftermath of their interrogation, question the efficacy of the trials while Cotton is left to wonder if his life's work has amounted to anything.

Alden finds himself weaker by the day – a victim of a dream spell that Mary uses to search Alden’s subconscious to locate the Malum – and work out her sexual frustration in the process. Meanwhile, with Mary’s attentions increasingly focused on her old flame Alden and her new pupil Mercy, tension escalates between Mary and Tituba.

Elsewhere, Anne makes an eerie discovery about her father's activities. When Cotton’s father, Increase Mather, makes an unanticipated entrance, Salem and its coven faces the arrival of the most feared witch hunter. Written by Adam Simon and Brannon Braga; directed by David Von Ancken.

In addition to Lang, guest starring are Sammi Hanratty as Dottie, Mary Catherine O'Donnell as Emily, Daniel James as Joe Barker, Sharon Landry as Mrs. Barker, Rachel Whitman Groves as Mrs. Trask, David Jensen as Captain, Morgana Shaw as Mab, and Ben Mouton as Lamb.
