Actors Rob Riggle and Harley Morenstein are among the actors joining the cast of Crackle’s original film “Dead Rising: Watchtower,” writes Multichannel.
Riggle (Let’s Be Cops, 22 Jump Street) and Morenstein (“Epic Meal Time”) will be joined by Keegan Connor Tracey (“Bates Motel,” “Once Upon A Time”), and Aleks Paunovic (“This Means War”) in the movie, which follows as large-scale zombie outbreak.
Previously announced cast members for the film, based on the video game franchise of the same name, include Jesse Metcalfe, Meghan Ory, Virginia Madsen and Dennis Haysbert.
Last month, hard rock band Manchester Orchestra released Hope, which was a reimagining of this year’s release Cope, taking every track and giving it a stripped down, acoustic approach.
Vocalist Andy Hull stated:
We were noticing that all the beautiful, slow stuff was working with all the really loud and fast stuff. The seed was planted to go back and create a full circle of an album.
While the album is out digitally, the CD and vinyl versions will be coming out November 18th (pre-order here). And in anticipation of this release, we got Hull to put together a list of his top 10 horror movies!

Bloody Disgusting regular Curtis L. just tipped us over to Ghostface.co.uk, who just published an interesting interview with RJ Torbert from FunWorld.
I guess Torbert is the rights holder to the “look” of Ghost Face, the slasher icon associated with the Scream films. According to him, Ghost Face will not be making an appearance in the new MTV “Scream” series.
“To answer your question regarding the “Scream” TV series…
Please note, that I had been in communication with TWC regarding this and they have informed me, that as of now, and during the initial launch that Ghost Face is NOT involved in the new format. They also indicated that because of this direction, it does not mean, that Ghost Face will not be involved at a later date. So, there is still a question, to the question.
However, as of now, there is no involvement.
That’s a curious statement, as there could be an eventual tie-in to the series. But, as of this writing, it sounds as if there are no real plans to bring Ghost Face into the television world.
Here’s some clarification by Torbert in regards to the rights:
We believe , ‘Scream’ is Ghost Face, and Ghost Face is Scream. However, while Ghost Face is owned by Fun World, The Scream Motion Picture Franchise is owned by The Weinstein Company and it is their option to Film a movie or TV show without Ghost Face.
Regardless, we wish them the best of luck and I’m sure ‘Scream’ fans will check out the series. Who knows what will happen in the future regarding the series and Ghost Face. Never say never.

Rob Zombie is one of the most polarizing figures in modern horror. Folks seem to either hate his movies or love them to the point of obsession. When he’s not behind the camera, Zombie somehow finds time to also record new music, tour, and put together a massive carnival of metal and haunted house mayhem known as the Great American Nightmare. A renaissance man, to say the least.
Zombie is currently working on his latest film, 31, about five people in 1976 who are abducted and forced to fight for their lives during the five days leading up to Halloween. This time he’s going the crowd funding route (get involved here), offering fans a plethora of goodies for their donations helping get 31 off the ground and into their eyeballs.
Zombie took the time to talk with us about 31, the crowd funding process, what he’s learned over the years as a filmmaker, and his favorite Halloween movies (that aren’t Halloween).
There’s 15 days left in the 31 crowd funding. What’s that experience been like so far and what has the feedback been like from the fans?
I mean, the experience has been great but the feedback has actually been like really, really good. I’m not gonna lie, when the idea came up to do this I was very skeptical. Because I didn’t know much about it and it sounded kinda weird to me, you know? And I was very particular about how I wanted to do it. I wanted to make sure that it was more like an online store, so when people donate they get something that’s more toward whatever that amount was. I didn’t want to skimp people and just ask for free money, basically. To me that’s kind of pathetic.
But really it’s been great. I’ve done a bunch of meet and greets and met a bunch of fans since the whole thing started. Everyone’s been really happy about it, they’re happy to be involved and have the chance to get stuff. And you know horror fans, they’re very involved in everything. Most other genre fans won’t go to conventions and get excited about movies that are 40 years old. They’re really passionate, you know? It’s been really good.
So far you’ve teased a lot of artwork from the film, but how far along is the movie. Is a script written yet?
The script’s finished. That’s been done for a long time. I’ll still mess with it, but essentially it’s done. We’re waiting for this (the crowd funding) to be done, and then we’re looking to start in full production early next year if everything goes according to plan.
Your past films have been pretty brutal and gritty. Is that the approach you’re going for with 31? How would you describe it?
I would say, out of all my films, this is going to be the most brutal. It’s pretty intense, it’s pretty humorless, and it’s pretty all-out.
Wow. And this is your sixth or seventh film…what do you think you’ve learned from the past that you’re applying now to 31?
I’m always learning with each film, but the main thing you learn that’s of real value is how to make the script tight, so don’t shoot the things you don’t use. Because on a movie like this, I don’t have the time to waste shooting things I won’t use. So that’s the thing I’m really trying to do with this script, take it down to the essence. Like on Lords of Salem we had a lot of fun going around shooting things, and that’s always going to happen when you’re making movies. But trying to hone that skill where that happens less and less each time, that’s the most important thing.
In your past films, you’ve managed to create some pretty iconic characters. Capt. Spaulding and the whole Firefly family, for example. It seems like you can’t go to a horror convention and not see someone with a Capt. Spaulding tattoo. Do you think 31 is going to produce any iconic characters like that?
I think there are several characters in this film that are of that caliber. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them quickly become Halloween costumes. Not that I create them with that in mind, but they have that vibe. I mean, I’m amazed with the literally thousands of Capt. Spaulding tattoos I’ve seen. And even with Lords of Salem, I thought I’d post a couple of fan tattoos from that on my Facebook page and now there are hundreds up there. It’s unbelievable how things catch on.
Speaking of Lords of Salem, is Sheri going to be in 31?
I don’t know who’s going to be in it right now. I’m still working on it, it keeps changing. Every time I think about a character, it keeps changing so for now it’s still a mystery.
Okay. Well is there anything you can tell us about 31 that you haven’t teased yet?
I don’t know if I’ve said this yet…but I love the look and feel of The Devil’s Rejects. For me, that’s the type of filmmaking that I really love. With Lords of Salem, I wanted to do something different, that was appropriate to the story. But this is more (in The Devil’s Rejects) vein and the movie is set in 1976, so it’s a full-on, nasty ‘70s movie.
Do you think you could see 31 becoming a franchise?
The set-up of the story definitely could be told over and over and over. I don’t want to give too much away but, I don’t know if I would even be interested in making it a franchise. I’m always moving on to the next idea, you know? But it definitely has the potential to be one. Who knows?
Very cool. Off topic a little bit here, but what’s the status of your Broad Street Bullies movie?
Well I worked on that for a long time, I worked on that for almost two years to be the follow-up to Lords of Salem. It was just one of those things though. It’s a true story with real people and obviously the rights to the Philadelphia Flyers is a whole other story. I didn’t really have a lot of control of the project and it just kept dragging on and on. After two years I was like, “Look, I’m going to go do something else.” I would love to go back to it but I didn’t want to spend five years working on Broad Street Bullies with nothing to show for it so that’s why I moved on to something else.
Very off topic here, why is Tom Baker your favorite Dr. Who?
I think because he was the first one I ever saw back in the ‘70s when I started watching Dr. Who. That’s back when Dr. Who was on PBS, no one knew what it fucking was. I was like “What is this show, Dr. Who?” As a kid didn’t know what it was so I put it on and my first impression was “This is the worst show ever made.” The production value looked like a bad soap opera. And then I got SO into it, I was obsessed with it. And I guess Tom Baker will always be Dr. Who for me because that was the first doctor I saw.
Being Halloween time now, what are your go-to movies for this time of year?
It’s all movies I’ve seen a billion times. Stuff like Island of Lost Souls, and obviously Frankenstein, Dracula, all the old Universal stuff I just love. Me and Sheri have been watching all of the Hammer films lately. I watched Blacula last night, you know. Pretty much older stuff like that.
What’s your favorite movie so far this year?
Good question. Fuck, I don’t even know what I’ve seen. Probably that movie Boyhood. That was pretty awesome.
Right on. And real quick before we go, one of my friends up in New England wanted to know what part of Haverhill do you think sucks the most.
Let’s me think…the high school sucked pretty fucking bad.
I’ve been an avid follower of Matt Miner’s “Liberator” saga since the beginning. I always gravitate towards comics with a real heart, one that exposes the creator as something more than a conduit to the page and more of passionate human being. When I read this book, it’s the passion for the cause that comes through in droves, and it’s what brings me back. “Critical Hit” may be the beginning of something new, but it still has the passion… and the horror of old.

The first thing you’ll notice when you open “Critical Hit” is that Jonathan Brandon Sawyer is an absolute beast. Then after that dust settles you’ll see that Miner has pushed Sarah and Jeanette into one super team to champion his cause, and the opening pages of this issue will show you just how determined they are to communicate their agenda.
It’s evident from the first page that this isn’t “Liberator” any more. The art is focused and the storytelling uses dual protagonists to create a more palpable sense of energy than ever before. The result is a grand display of mayhem at the hands of our vigilantes. They ransack a camp, and tear these hunter’s possessions to pieces because well… thier hunters.
It’s all well and good, but it doesn’t serve the same impact or thoughtfulness as before, and Miner makes damn sure they pay for it. Instead of attacking animal testing facilities the girls turn their target onto a more regular type of asshole, but in doing so they incur the wrath of the hunters. They got careless and were forced to the deal with the immediate consequences of their actions. This provides an interesting talking point for the issue, because at first I was concerned that this was an “easy” degradation of Sarah and Jeanette’s cause. But it seems Miner is almost in agreement. How this plays out will truly seal the deal, but for now it seems the Liberators are taking the easy way out.
Jonathan Brandon Sawyer on the other hand, he seems concerned with making the most amount of work possible for himself. His panels are cleanly laid out, and provide the series with the best art it’s ever had. There are certain intimate details in the larger scenes in this book that show worldbuilding at almost every level. To the records on display at the store, to the wallsocket holding an lonely iphone charger in the apartment, this is one helluva artist.
When the book really gets going the action stays clean and is communicated with relative ease. Nothing feels out of the ordinary or disjointed.
For the book itself, I’m a little lost in the shuffle. I sympathize with the cause, and I get behind the idea, I just don’t know if I’m into bringing down to an even more base level. Hunters are assholes, we get it. Hunting isn’t exactly something I’m terribly connected to so perhaps I don’t know the levels to which these people are assholes, but for now it doesn’t seem like a logical extension of their cause and more of misstep given how quickly they burn the cabin to the ground. Then on the other hand, anarchy fucking rules. So I still wait for next issue with bated breath.
Well, this is some news we weren’t expecting this fine Monday, but in any event, Armory Films, Cassian Elwes, and Contend announced today that they have joined together to kick off production of a remake of Eli Roth’s horror thriller hit Cabin Fever with Travis Zariwny (Intruder) directing and Armory and Pelican Point Media financing.
Here are the highlights from the press release:
The film, to be reshot from the original 2002 version by Eli Roth and Randy Pearlstein, stars Gage Golightly (“Teen Wolf”), Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3), Samuel Davis (“From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series:), Matthew Daddario (Delivery Man), and Nadine Crocker (Deadgirl). Cabin Fever will be produced by Contend’s Evan Astrowsky, (who also produced the original film with Roth) and Armory Films’ Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros.
Cassian Elwes will executive produce along with Roth, Ike Suri and Jaclyn Ann Suri, and Peter Fruchtman. The film has begun principal photography this week in Portland, Oregon. Voltage Pictures is handling international sales on the film at the upcoming American Film Market. Cassian Elwes and CAA are representing the domestic rights.
Cabin Fever follows in Eli Roth’s original footsteps when a group of college students, who rent a cabin in the woods to do some partying, begin to fall victim to a flesh-eating virus and all hell breaks loose.
The original premiered at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival with Elwes involved in a massive bidding war for the film. This version will be shot from the exact same script that Roth directed 13 years ago, as opposed to going through a long, delayed studio development process.
“Travis had an amazing vision for my original script, and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it. I almost see this like re-staging a play, and I’m excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it. They’re all fans of the original and want to make a film that’s a new classic, and I believe they will,” said Roth.
Roth is best known for his work directing the original Cabin Fever as well as genre hits Hostel and Hostel II and his latest effort, The Green Inferno, which premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

Now, we’ve learned that the infection is spreading deep into Portland, OR. this week.
Our exclusive scoop was confirmed this morning that Eli Roth’s 2002 horror comedy Cabin Fever is getting a remake, with the original movie’s writer-director Roth returning as executive producer.
Here’s the bizarre part: The plan is to use the exact same script, penned by Roth and Randy Pearlstein, that was shot in 2002.

Exclusive: Filmmaker Chloe Okuno Talks Screamfest Premiere of Slut; Trailers, Carpet Photos, and More!
Occasionally I’m privy to experiencing the first work of a filmmaker whose unique voice will more than likely go on to cinematically haunt our collective dreams and who’ll probably soon be attending those infamous Los Angeles “Masters of Horror” dinners.
Such was the case this past weekend with the October 18th Screamfest premiere of writer/director Chloe Okuno’s short film Slut.
With the 14th Annual Screamfest Horror Film Festival currently under way at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood, CA, Okuno’s 21-minute student short debuted to a wildly vocal audience, and we caught up with her on the carpet following.
“It started off with ‘Little Red Riding Hood,’” Okuno told us of her inspiration for Slut, her AFI thesis project, which she wrote and directed. Produced by Lisa Gollobin, the film revolves around a naive young girl who becomes the target of a mysterious stranger passing through town. Molly McIntyre appears in the lead role; James Gallo, Kasia Pilewicz, Cody Beverstock, Alex Miller, and Sally Kirkland co-star.
“I wanted to find a way to do the classic moment of her coming home to discover the big bad wolf dressed as Grandma in a way that was realistic, or at least relatively realistic,” Okuno continued. “From that sort of conceptual beginning I thought about the character of Red Riding Hood herself, and this awkward, bespectacled 16-year-old girl began to develop pretty naturally, probably coming a bit from classic movie tropes and a bit from my own experience as an awkward teenager.”
Refreshingly shot on 35mm, Okuno said of the production, “Our team was very fortunate to receive a couple of grants, one from Fotokem and another from EFILM & Deluxe, that helped us with the cost of shooting on film; and we were very fortunate to have all our film stock donated by a very nice man named George Gush at Fujifilm. Apparently, it was essentially leftovers from American Hustle, which is pretty cool as I am more than happy to take David O. Russell’s leftovers! It was Fujifilm Eterna Vivid stock, which we shot 2-perf to give it that grainy 70s look.”
“Principal photography took place in late February 2014,” she offered. “Like all AFI thesis productions, we shot seven days and then had a day and a half of re-shoots, all in and around Los Angeles. We went out to Ventura to Skating Plus for the roller rink scenes, Piru for our farmhouse and desert exteriors, and everything else was shot on a stage in downtown L.A.”
We asked Okuno about the reasons for her choice of setting Slut in the late 70’s.
“I love that aesthetic, and I love movies from that time period,” she effused. “Whenever I envisioned the eponymous ‘slut,’ for some reason I knew she just had to have short shorts and feathered hair. Late 70’s/80’s slasher films were a big influence on the dynamic of the kids at the roller rink; that sort of small town America feeling that you see in a lot of movies from that era. Also, rightly or wrongly, I’ve always attached a certain innocence to that time period so it provided this atmosphere where we could deal with different characters’ attitudes toward female sexuality in a way that was more explicit, less coded, which was quite helpful in a short format.”
Concerning the genre films which influenced Slut, “Naturally I wanted to emulate the best so Carrie, Halloween, and Texas Chain Saw Massacre were all big influences,” Okuno stated.
“At very early days in the process, we got the team together and saw a gorgeous print of Texas Chain Saw at the Aero in Santa Monica, which hopefully permeated our collective consciousness during the many months of making Slut. Little less of a horror movie and more of a thriller, but Blood Simple was another big inspiration. We took a lot of visual cues from Badlands as well. I think I can say that Sissy Spacek directly influenced us.”
As for what’s next on the young filmmaker’s plate, “I’m writing a feature script that I’m very excited about,” she concluded. “Like Slut, it’s another coming-of-age story, but in lieu of misogynistic psycho killers, it features satanic rituals, demonic possession, a bit of animal sacrifice. Of course I’m trying to get it financed so I can unleash this twisted monstrosity upon the world.”
Maddy is 16 years old. She lives alone with her sick grandmother in a rundown farmhouse off a highway in Nowheresville, Texas. She does her best to take care of her mute, wheelchair-bound grandmother, but life at home is lonely and depressing. So, like everyone else within a 20-mile radius, Maddy spends her free time at the only place with half a pulse: the local roller rink.
With her shabby clothes, large glasses, and dangerous naivete, Maddy is a hopeless misfit amongst her peers. Determined to embrace her inner vixen, Maddy looks to a girl named Jolee – beautiful, blonde, and unapologetically promiscuous – as a sort of model for what attracts men. Unfortunately for Maddy, it’s just at this time that an older, charismatic Stranger enters her life, a man whose charm masks the impulses of a murderous, misogynistic psychopath.

Over the weekend, our very own Bree Ogden challenged me to letting her put together a BD Playlist that focused on her love of rapper Kanye West with the intention of convincing me that there’s actually a lot more behind him than I saw in mass media.
Now, I’m not one to back down from a challenge, especially when it comes to music. You want me to listen to something? You better believe I’ll check it out. Hell, I encourage people to send me music. I can’t guarantee that I’ll get to it right away (when life is busy, every second is precious) but I promise that I’ll get around to it.

The name Ryan Murphy has become synonymous with frights in recent years, as the creator of “American Horror Story” continues to prove that he knows what scares us. But up next he’s looking to make us laugh, and we’ve got the scoop for ya today!
THR reports that Fox has handed out a straight-to-series order for comedy-horror anthology Scream Queens, created by Murphy, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk.
The 15-episode hour-long comedy will premiere in the fall of 2015, with season one revolving around a college campus that’s rocked by a series of murders. New settings and storylines will be featured in subsequent seasons of the anthology series.
“I knew I wanted to work with Brad and Ian again on something comedic, and we are having a blast writing Scream Queens,” Murphy said. “We hope to create a whole new genre – comedy-horror – and the idea is for every season to revolve around two female leads. We’ve already begun a nationwide search for those women, as well as 10 other supporting roles, and we’re very grateful to [Fox TV Group chairmen and CEOs] Dana [Walden] and Gary [Newman] for their enthusiastic support.”
The series hails from 20th Century Fox Television, where Murphy and Falchuk are under rich overall deals. Murphy, Falchuk, Ian Brennan and Dante Di Loreto will exec produce.

The newest chapter in the terrifying horror series is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell.
A twisted new tale of terror begins for a teenage girl and her family, predating the haunting of the Lambert family in the earlier movies and revealing more mysteries of the otherworldly realm The Further. Focus Features shared the official synopsis and new behind-the-scenes imagery from Insidious: Chapter 3, which will also see the release of its trailer in theaters this weekend.
Leigh Whannell, co-creator of the terrifying horror franchise, directs the third film.
The full cast of Insidious: Chapter 3 includes Dermot Mulroney (August: Osage County) and Stefanie Scott (Jem and the Holograms) starring alongside Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Mr. Whannell, with the latter trio reprising their roles from the first two movies in the franchise.

Focus Features will release Insidious: Chapter 3 domestically nationwide on Friday, May 29th, 2015.
“Glee” and “American Horror Story” creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are taking this new anthology concept to an entirely new level. And I’m quickly turning against it.
The network has handed out a straight-to-series order for comedy-horror anthology “Scream Queens,” says THR. The 15-episode hourlong comedy will premiere in the fall of 2015, with season one revolving around a college campus that’s rocked by a series of murders. New settings and storylines will be featured in subsequent seasons of the anthology series.
The bad news is that this will allegedly be on FOX, not FX, which means it’s going to probably be garbage (I can’t stand “Sleepy Hollow”, “The Following” or any other of their awful genre trash).
But the icing on the cake is this hysterical quote from Murphy, who thinks he’s inventing some sort of subgenre called “comedy-horror.” LOL
“I knew I wanted to work with Brad and Ian again on something comedic, and we are having a blast writing Scream Queens,” Murphy told THR.
“We hope to create a whole new genre – comedy-horror – and the idea is for every season to revolve around two female leads. We’ve already begun a nationwide search for those women, as well as 10 other supporting roles, and we’re very grateful to [Fox TV Group chairmen and CEOs] Dana [Walden] and Gary [Newman] for their enthusiastic support.”
To me, a horror comedy is something along the lines of SLiTHER. A comedy horror is a spoof, like Scary Movie. In my estimation, Murphy isn’t creating a new subgenre, he’s just talking big, because he can. The unfortunate truth is, “Scream Queens” is going to be on FOX, which means it’s going to be garbage catered to the general public while us horror fans roll our eyes. I’m already prepared for my parents’ 60-year-old friends saying to me, “I bet you like ‘Scream Queens,’ ” because, you know, it’s horror and I apparently like anything labeled as such.
Though it’s already available on home video over in the UK, Lowell Dean’s insanely fun WolfCop (review) has still yet to make its way stateside. That all changes in the early portions of 2015, when a big ole howl will be heard in your DVD collection!
Bloody Disgusting got the exclusive on this tasty tidbit of news, as RLJ/Image Entertainment tipped them off that WolfCop is soon headed to the states in the form of a DVD, Blu-ray and VOD release.
According to the WolfCop Twitter account, March is the month you can expect it.

Starring The Human Centipede‘s Ashley C. Williams, Tahyna Tozzi, Jack Noseworthy and Joel De La Fuente, the pic is a neon-noir revenge thriller centering on Julia Shames, played by Williams, who after suffering a brutal trauma, falls prey to an unorthodox form of therapy to restore herself.
In this exclusive clip you’ll see the title character reflecting on said “brutal trauma” and, presumably, preparing to take a stand.
