BREAKING: As part of the 35th anniversary celebration of the ground-breaking movie Alien, NECA will release the first-ever action figures of main character Ellen Ripley that feature the likeness and approval of actress Sigourney Weaver, who was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe for Aliens in 1987!

Initial plans include a figure of Ripley in her Nostromo jumpsuit from the original 1979 film, to be followed later by a Ripley figure based on the 1986 movie Aliens, directed by James Cameron.

Prototypes will debut later this summer at San Diego Comic-Con!

The celebration will continue through the year, with a special 35th Anniversary figure appearing in each series of Alien 7″ action figures. Visitors to the booth got a rare peek at Series 3, scheduled for July; Series 4 is slated for autumn. Read about them here.

NECA also revealed a spectacular summer treat for fans: two Deluxe 35th Anniversary releases, both completely in scale with the main action figure line. The massive “Alien Queen Ultra Deluxe Boxed Action Figure” will arrive in July, shortly before the release of the iconic “Power Loader” exoskeleton, which is famously used by Lt. Ripley to battle the Alien Queen in one of the most thrilling scenes in the 1987 movie.

'BioShock Infinite' Developer Irrational Games Is No More

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/18/2014 - 16:13

Irrational Games, as we know it, is no more.

The powerhouse of creativity and innovation that’s brought us one critically acclaimed and hugely influential video game after the next — including System Shock 2, BioShock, and BioShock Infinite — is undergoing a massive transformation.

This is the team that took us from the failed underwater utopia of Rapture to the floating city of Columbia. They introduced us to SHODAN, the Big Daddy, to Elizabeth Comstock. They made games that pushed the envelope, proving video games can indeed be art. Irrational’s portfolio is proof that this is an industry that can offer powerful, emotional, and unforgettable experiences. It’s a studio that I’ve been honored to report on here at Bloody Disgusting.

In a letter written by studio head Ken Levine, he describes the transformation as a “winding down”. “I’ll be starting a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two. That is going to mean parting ways with all but about fifteen members of the Irrational team. There’s no great way to lay people off, and our first concern is to make sure that the people who are leaving have as much support as we can give them during this transition.”

Levine isn’t going anywhere. We’ll see more from the intensely talented writer soon, and his plan for the future of the remaining Irrational team sounds much like what the developer offered in the past.

“In time we will announce a new endeavor with a new goal: To make narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable. To foster the most direct relationship with our fans possible, we will focus exclusively on content delivered digitally.” wrote Levine.

Losing Irrational Games is a monumental blow to the video games industry. I’ve been a fan since their debut title, System Shock 2, and while this news is more than a little painful to write, I’m very much looking forward to seeing what comes next. I dare say the possibilities are infinite.

You Can Enter Victor Salva's 'Dark House' This March!

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/18/2014 - 16:11

The horror-suspense feature Dark House, starring the iconic Tobin Bell (Saw), has officially announced its day-and-date roll-out in March, Bloody Disgusting learned.

On March 11, Cinedigm launches the film in North American across cable, VOD, Blu-ray Disc and DVD. Paladin will release the movie in New York and Los Angeles on March 14, with additional markets to follow.

Dark House, which follows the terrifying road trip of a young man in search of his dark past, is the freshman effort of LA-based Charles Agron Productions. The company, which expects to announce an international distribution deal in coming days, is also in early stages of pre-production on a second horror title, Monday at 11:01AM.

Dark House is directed by Victor Salva, a genre favorite whose two Jeepers Creepers films broke box-office records and are seminal in the horror canon. Salva co-wrote the script with producer Charles Agron, based on a story by Agron.

“Dark House is a thrilling and horrifying road trip, full of twists and brutal surprises; a suspenseful thriller about a young man and a chilling old house that has survived decades, awaiting the return of its prodigal son… a house that can escalate Nick’s gift to see death before it happens, but holds within its walls the origins of a dark family legacy so horrible it may have already reached out to Nick’s unborn child.

Headlining the cast is Tobin Bell. Up-and-coming young actor Luke Kleintank (Pretty Little Liars, 1000 to 1) stars, along with Alex McKenna (Crossing Jordan”, “Dallas), Zack Ward (Postal) and multiple award-winner, Lesley-Anne Down (Upstairs/Downstairs).

This Zombie Won't Even See It Coming In This New 'The Walking Dead' Episode 2 Screen

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/18/2014 - 15:35

The next episode in the second season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Game doesn’t look to be too far away. The developer recently teased a bit more of the upcoming episode, titled A House Divided, on their Facebook, where they posted the first screenshot from it. In it, fan favorite Clementine is creeping up behind an unsuspecting zombie, hammer in hand, about to dish some hurt.

The season’s debut left many of us with more than a few questions, some of which I hope we’ll see answered when it arrives in the near future.

R.I.P. Bob Casale Of Devo Passes Away At 61

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/18/2014 - 14:58

Sad news has come out as it’s been confirmed that original Devo member Bob Casale has passed away from heart failure related issues at the age of 61. The news came from the official Devo Facebook page on a post that was written by his brother and founding member Gerald. Devo’s last album 2010′s Something for Everybody, which heavily featured Bob Casale. An official message can be read below.

Our thoughts go out to his friends, fans, and family.

Very sad news to report today.

Bob Casale of Devo. Born: July 14th, 1952 . Deceased: February 17th, 2014

As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches with me from the beginning. He was my level-headed brother, a solid performer and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got. He was excited about the possibility of Mark Mothersbaugh allowing Devo to play shows again. His sudden death from conditions that lead to heart failure came as a total shock to us all.

    Gerald Casale, Devo founder.

Exclusive 'In Fear' Clip Urges You To Slow Down

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/18/2014 - 14:44

Out of last year’s Sundance Film Festival comes the UK thriller In Fear (review), the critically acclaimed feature film debut of writer/director Jeremy Lovering, arriving March 11th on Blu-ray, VOD and DVD from Anchor Bay Films. In Fear will also enjoy several U.S. exclusive theatrical engagements starting Friday, March 7th.

The Bay has given Bloody an exclusive new clip that takes you deep in the woods where a couple is terrorized by a killer.

“In Fear is a tense psychological horror about a young couple’s fight to make it through the night. Home invasion but in a car. In real-time. Tom (De Caestecker) and Lucy (Englert) are trapped in a maze of country roads with only their vehicle for protection, terrorized by an unseen tormentor hell-bent on exploiting their worst fears. Driving, lost and tormented in the night, primal fears of the dark and the unknown give way to fear that you have let the evil in, or that it is already there.

Starring Iain De Caestecker (ABC’s hit series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”), Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures) and Allen Leech (“Downton Abbey”), In Fear stunned audiences in international film festivals in nine countries, including Canada’s Toronto After Dark, Germany’s Rosebud Entertainment Fantasy Festival, Spain’s Fancine – Festival de Cine Fantastico and South Korea’s Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival.

I’m getting pumped for February 21st. That’s when we host the opening night of Almost Human at Arena Cinema Hollywood (tickets here) IFC Midnight will be releasing the film on VOD and in select theaters that day – but the weekend screenings at Arena are where you want to be.

Why? There will be a contest at each screening where audience winners can win a rare limited edition VHS copy of the film! Since Almost Human is a lovingly meticulous throwback to the bygone era of that format – this is definitely a fitting prize. Come armed with some knowledge, I’m pretty sure you’ll have to answer some tough questions to get your hands on one of these.

We’ll be hosting the 9:20PM and 11PM screenings of the film that night. Writer/director Joe Begos will be on hand along with the film’s stars Graham Skipper and Josh Ethier. We’ll be hosting a Q&A with them before the 9:20 showing. If you’re coming to the 11PM show that’s fine too, since we’ll be doing an intro/conversation with them before that showing starts.

Godzilla 1954 Stomping Back to Theatres

    Dread Central - Tue, 02/18/2014 - 14:00

The mother of all Kaiju movies, 1954's Godzilla, or Gojira for you purists out there, is getting ready to stomp a mudhole into a theatre (hopefully) near you, and we couldn't possibly be more elated! Read on for the skinny!

    From the Press Release
A new restoration of GODZILLA: THE JAPANESE ORIGINAL, the monster classic that has spawned six decades of sequels, imitations, and remakes, will debut April 12 at the fifth TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood, followed by a national release beginning at New York’s Film Forum, April 18-24.

GODZILLA was originally released here in 1956 as Godzilla: King of the Monsters, an atrociously cut, dubbed and re-edited version that inserted American actor Raymond Burr into the action; only an hour was used of the original’s 98 minute running time. Burr does not appear in the original, uncut version, which has an all-Japanese cast including Kurosawa regular Takashi Shimura, who the very same year appeared as leader of the Seven Samurai.

As directed by Ishirô Honda, with special effects by the legendary Eiji Tsuburaya, GODZILLA: THE JAPANESE ORIGINAL is much darker in tone than the dumbed-down U.S. release version, which entirely eliminated the original’s underlying theme: in the Japanese version, the monster is clearly a metaphor for the nuclear menace and the film itself a cry for world peace and disarmament. The American version also cut out all of the original’s astonishing Strangelove-like black humor.

The original GODZILLA holds up as one of the greatest science fiction/monster films ever made, boasting still-impressive special effects, as the radiation-breathing prehistoric monster, awakened after millennia by Hydrogen Bomb testing – and impervious to repeated shelling by the Japanese army – wreaks destruction on Tokyo.

GODZILLA became Toho Studio’s #1 box office hit of 1954 (its #2 that year was Seven Samurai) and was so popular worldwide that the company has since produced nearly 30 sequels and remakes; a statue near Toho headquarters in Tokyo pays tribute to their most valuable property. In 1984, the prestigious film journal Kinema Junpo rated it among the top 20 Japanese films of all time. In 1989, a published survey of 370 Japanese movie critics, Nihon Eiga Besuto 150 (Best 150 Japanese Films), ranked Godzilla the 27th greatest Japanese feature ever made.

A new American version of Godzilla from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, directed by Gareth Edwards (2010’s Monsters), will be released nationally May 16.

Sean Whalen Experiences The Divine Tragedies

    Dread Central - Tue, 02/18/2014 - 13:30

More casting news has arrived for Jose Pendres' new flick, The Divine Tragedies, and it's another familiar genre favorite! Read on for the details, and look for additional goodies on this one soon!

    From the Press Release
Writer/director Jose Prendes (THE HAUNTING OF WHALEY HOUSE) and producers Jon and James Kondelik are excited to welcome Sean Whalen (THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, TWISTER, HATCHET III) to the cast of their new film.

“I wrote this really bizarre and sleazy character, who just so happened to have some endearing qualities, and I always had Sean in mind for it,” says Jose. “He was the first actor we went out to, and he said yes immediately after reading the script, which was great because I couldn’t see anyone else playing that role.”

DIVINE TRAGEDIES, based loosely on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case, tells the tale of Charles Brubaker (Graham Denman, The Haunting of Whaley House) and his half-brother Thomas Lo Bianco (Jon Kondelik, Airplane Vs. Volcano), who concoct a deadly game to test their superior intelligence against the dimwitted masses. This game will eventually lead to murder, and when Genevieve, a beautiful single mother, enters their lives, they finally find the perfect girl for their first kill. But problems arise when they quickly discover that Detective Homer Gaul (Ken Foree), a cop with a very special gift, is hot on their trail.

Sean’s character, Doug, sends the brothers on their journey early on with a nail-biting sequence that is guaranteed to be hard to sit through.

"I am excited to play Doug, the crack head in THE DIVINE TRAGEDIES,” say Sean. “It's an actor’s dream part. It opens the film, and it is a tour de force. I hope I live up to Jose's writing of the character. I'm going to bust my butt to do a good job, so Jose better make it look good because I plan to use this one on my reel!"

Filming begins at the end of February.

Bloody-Disgusting is excited to team up with horror punk band Calabrese to bring you the exclusive premiere of their latest music video “I Wanna Be A Vigilante”! Directed by Brian Pulido (creator of Lady Death, Evil Ernie, and more), the video shows the band performing in a warehouse with sweeping spotlights, leather jackets, gorgeously stylized hair, and loads of music gear. Something about it just screams pure punk rock for me and I kinda love every second. Head on below and enjoy!

Calabrese are also going to be hitting the road for a US tour! The tour kicks off March 8th in Tempe, AZ and finishes just under a month later in El Paso, TX. The tour will include a performance at Cincinnati’s HorrorHound Convention.

“I Wanna Be A Vigilante” comes from the band’s fifth full length album Born With A Scorpion’s Touch, which you can order digitally or physically.

Bassist/vocalist Jimmy Calabrese comments, “On the new video for “I Wanna Be A Vigilante” we once again teamed up with the multi-talented, creator, writer and producer Brian Pulido. Brian is most notably known as the mastermind behind Chaos! Comics, and created and wrote such well known characters as Evil Ernie, Purgatori, and Lady Death. Even though this new music video is rather straight forward, Brian took what could have been just another Calabrese performance piece and captured a grandiose side of Calabrese that we’ve yet to see. We hope our fans dig it as much as we do!

Out in the Dark Book Signing to Include Jeffrey Reddick, Tim Sullivan, and More

    Dread Central - Tue, 02/18/2014 - 12:30

This coming Saturday, February 22nd, at Dark Delicacies in Burbank, CA, there will be a signing of the book Out in the Dark, a compilation of interviews with gay horror filmmakers, including writers, directors, and actors.

A Facebook event page has been set up with all the details, but here's who is expected to be there so far, with more still to come: Editor Sean Abley and contributors Jeffrey Reddick, JT Seaton, Mark Bessenger, Armando Munoz, Tim Sullivan, and Jeffrey Schwarz will be signing Out in the Dark: Interviews with Gay Horror Filmmakers, Actors & Authors.

The event runs from 2-5 PM PT. Dark Delicacies is located at 3512 West Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, California 91505.

Gay men have a decades-long, complicated history with the horror genre. While working behind the scenes to create some of the most iconic terrors on film (such as James Whale's Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man), they watched themselves portrayed on screen with sinister subtext, or ''the best friend who dies first''; victimhood.

But in the last twenty years there has been a significant shift in the horror world courtesy of a growing number of out authors, screenwriters, directors, and actors working to scare you. Out in the Dark: Interviews with Gay Filmmakers, Actors and& Authors introduces you to many of these men with interviews and insights into their work and their lives. From mainstream Hollywood filmmakers (Don Mancini, Child's Play and the Chucky films) to indie exploitation mainstays (Joshua Grannell aka Peaches Christ, All About Evil); prolific authors (Douglas Clegg, The Children's Hour) to small press niche writers (Alan Kelly, Let Me Die a Woman); recently out teen idols (Wesley Eure, Land of the Lost) to gay indie staples (Matthew Montgomery, Socket), Out in the Dark offers new perspectives on the interstitial realm of the queer and horrific.
