Warner Bros. Sets 'The Conjuring 2' Release Date

bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 20:41

After breaking box office records, Warner Bros. and New Line quickly began developing out the newly minted The Conjuring franchise, based on the allegedly true stories of the Warrens. Now, the studios are claiming the month of October for the next few years…

First, Warner and New Line are releasing a currently untitled horror film in theaters on October 3, 2014. While the now-filming spin off Annabelle was said to be a direct-to-disc/VOD release, it’s very possible that the studio has decided to push it out in theaters. This may and may not be Annabelle, and we’re working to confirm. Annabelle Wallis, Alfre Woodard and Ward Horton are starring in Annabelle with John Leonetti, the cinematographer on The Conjuring, directing from a script by Gary Dauberman. Eric Ladin and Brian Howe also star.

The Conjuring included a haunted doll named Annabelle as part of a collection of demonic objects assembled by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.

Speaking of The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2 has been penciled down for release on October 23, 2015, taking that weekend away from a potential sixth Paranormal Activity. Carey Hayes and Chad Hayes are penning the sequel.

Just when you thought it was safe, developer Red Barrels has narrowed down the release window for Outlast: Whistleblower, the first expansion for their fantastic horror game debut, which was voted by you as the Horror Game of the Year for 2013. It also won scariest game, best gore, and best in indie horror. Clearly, a large majority of you enjoyed the game as much as I did.

We still don’t have a solid release date for it, but at least now we have a month. Whistleblower will arrive on PC and PS4 in April, where it will drag us one by one, kicking and screaming, back to Mount Massive Asylum. I can’t wait.

'Ghostbusters III' Will Happen Without Harold Ramis...

bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 19:09

I’ve been dying for Columbia Pictures to get their third Ghostbusters off the ground, but with the sudden death of Harold Ramis, it’s kind of hard for me to envision it without him…

Still, the studio will continue forth with him, says a new report on THR.

Explains the site, Ramis’ death on February 24 has has left Sony scrambling to keep Ghostbusters III on track since Ramis, who died at age 69 due to complications from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, was to have made a cameo appearance in the film.

The sequel’s director Ivan Reitman is scheduled to meet with Sony production brass in the coming days to assess how to move forward on the project that is in active development.

Ramis, who starred in the 1984 original and 1989 sequel alongside Murray and Dan Aykroyd, was poised to appear in a third outing in a cameo role — like Murray and Aykroyd — that set up a baton-passing to a trio of newcomers.

The script, written by “The Office” writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, will now need to be revamped. “There will be some repercussions,” says a project insider.

A studio source downplayed the impact on the project, however, insisting that Ramis was involved in Ghostbusters III only minimally.

He was always great to bounce something off of, and that will certainly be missed,” the source says of Ramis. “But it won’t affect the script.

Even before Ramis’ death, the script had not progressed enough for the film to begin shooting in 2014.

Now, the studio will have to adjust without an on-screen assist from Ramis’ Dr. Egon Spengler…

[TV] Fear Will Keep "The Walking Dead" Survivors Alive (Trailer)

bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 18:35

AMC has released a new season 4 trailer for the final episodes of “The Walking Dead.”

I really like the new video as it talks about the power of fear, and how it’s keeping the survivors alive.

In Episode 4.12 (airing Sunday, March 2), “Still,” “an enlightened mission springs from a request from one of the group members.”

Following the devastating events of the mid-season finale, Rick and the group are still reeling from the loss of their home, family, and friends. With the destruction of the prison, we see the group of survivors broken apart and sent on divergent paths, unsure of everyone else’s fate. What was a challenging life behind fences and walls grows that much more perilous and precious as they are exposed to new dangers, new enemies, and heartbreaking choices. They will have their faith thoroughly tested — a faith that breaks some of them and redeems others.

John Fallon's The Shelter Enters Post-Production; New Image

Dread Central - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 17:46

We've been following John Fallon's directorial debut for some time here on Dread Central, and we're happy to report that The Shelter has wrapped filming and is now balls deep into the post-production process. Read on for details and to check out a brand new still!

From the Press Release
John Fallon's directorial debut, The Shelter, starring Michael Paré (The Lincoln Lawyer, Streets of Fire), Gayle James, Rachel Whittle, Lauren Thomas, Brigette Rose, and Amy Wickenheiser, enters post-production this week.

The film was financed by Bruise Productions and JoBlo Movie Productions, and Holbrook Multi Media will be handling the post duties. Bobby Holbrook II acted as the director of photography on the film, and Fallon had this to say as to why he went back to Holbrook to finish the picture:

"Working with Holbrook Multi Media on The Shelter production was a pleasure. I never had this much fun on a set. They were resourceful, knowledgeable, relentless, and brought with them an endearing positive energy. I connected with their stellar work ethic; hence, with that and the fact that they understood the type of picture we were making, I decided to go with them [for] post-production. We start this week, and I am beyond excited!"

Bobby Holbrook II will continue on the movie as chief editor and colorist along with other Holbrook support staff.

"The Holbrook experience on the shoot of The Shelter was fun," said Bobby. "Lots of fun, and [it] confirms our belief that with a great story, outstanding director, and experienced actors, all that's left is the right equipment and a crew dedicated to not just doing their jobs but to the film itself, and amazing things can happen. It was a pleasure working with everyone involved during production, and I am thrilled to continue this with John into post."

John Fallon directed the film from his own screenplay, Donny Broussard (Little Houses) and Fallon produced the picture, Erin Bennett was the production manager, Shawn Knippelberg will be scoring the film, while Thomas Wilson (James Wan’s The Conjuring and Insidious: Chapter 2) is handling the film’s VFX.

On a star-filled night, widower and homeless man Thomas (Michael Paré) finds shelter for the night when he falls upon a vast two-story house with the lights on and an inviting open front door. He strolls on in, thinking he just caught a lucky break, and for a while it would appear as though he did. But soon enough he realizes that the house won’t let him leave, as its doors are all locked while its windows cannot be opened or broken. Destiny has brought Thomas to this place. What does it want from him? Will he survive the ordeal?

Once post is completed, The Shelter will hit the festival circuit and will be seeking worldwide distribution. The film will have a presence at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. For more info in the meantime, keep it locked on the official The Shelter Facebook page.

There's A 50/50 Chance 'The Last Of Us' Will Get A Sequel

bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 16:29

In a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann was asked what the chances are that The Last of Us will see a sequel. His answer? “Right now I’d say it’s 50/50.” Whichever side of the fence you find yourself on, it looks like this is something they’re still considering.

The Last of Us gets a lot of love here on Bloody Disgusting. The game received a rare perfect score in Vikki’s review, and we even included it in our list of the last generation’s greatest games. It’s a beautiful and often emotional game that you won’t soon forget. With that said, I don’t think it needs a sequel.

How about you? Is The Last of Us 2 something you would like to see, or is this better as a one-off experience?

'Unidentified' Director Jason R. Miller Lists His 5 Favorite UFO/Alien Horror Movies!!

bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 16:05

Whether you know it or not, if you’re a reader of this site you’ve been watching director Jason R. Miller‘s work for years. He’s been heavily involved in producing and doing VFX and second unite for films like the Frozen, the Hatchet trilogy, The Barrens among many others. He made his directorial debut with Unidentified which is out digitally (you can watch it here) and on DVD now.

The movie is a lot of fun, as I’ve said before it really nails a lot of the comedy so many films get wrong when they try to mesh genres. But there’s also a strong alien/UFO presence in the movie’s second half. To that end, I asked Miller about the films that inspired his first feature as a director.

Head below for his 5 Favorite UFO/Alien Horror Movies!!

“This movie scared the shit out of me! I was 13 years old and I remember it was one of the first “BASED ON A TRUE STORY” movies where I fully understood what that meant. The lights in my bedroom stayed on for a long while after seeing that movie. There’s not a lot of actual abduction footage, but that sequence where they drag Travis Walton down the hallway, put that black goo in his mouth and then cover him in that flesh sheet; To this day if you ask me to describe an abduction, that’s what I picture.”

“I remember tons of people hating on this movie, but I love Signs. When I saw it in the theater, I couldn’t sit back in my seat. I was on edge for the entire movie and the first time you see the Alien, which used “found footage” in a wonderfully scary way, it was so great. I remember the collective JUMP from the audience during that scene. And here’s a UFO movie where they don’t show the UFO at all and you don’t miss it.”

“This one edged out Predator by a hair. I love the Predator, but the alien in The Thing is just so much more of a unique character and those practical effects sequences are to this day some of the best ever done! I love the use of matte paintings to show the UFO buried in the snow and I love the “It could be any one of us” element. Also having it set in the Antarctic brings in the isolation factor and trust me when I tell you, because I worked on a little movie that took place in the snow (Frozen) IT IS HARD TO MAKE A MOVIE IN THOSE CONDITIONS!”

“I really love the reality that Neill Blomkamp brought to D9 and the world building that he did here was amazing. You watch this movie and just want to find out the answers to everything about this society. I really want to see where these aliens come from and what happened to their ship and who was in charge!

I love the way Blomkamp taught us more about the societies in Johannesburg by portraying the Aliens as second class citizens. I love the technology and how humans are doing all this experimenting for nothing because only the alien DNA can control it. A huge accomplishment for a first time director.”

“This is the mother of all FILMS for me. It just works on every level and I love that Ridley Scott refers to it as Texas Chainsaw Massacre in Space! Ridley Scott is such a visionary director that even the writers were amazed with the final result.

I wasn’t allowed to watch R rated movies when I was kid, but I knew a guy who would edit out all the swears in movies for me and my friends to watch. Don’t ask me why, but my Mom was okay with me watching the bloodiest of movies as long as they didn’t yell “Fuck” while they were killing. So when I finally got to see the unedited, non-copy of a copy of a VHS tape version of the film I was changed forever. What a masterpiece! The backdrop to my life while I write is always Alien on a loop!”

Kojima Wants To Take A Break From The 'Metal Gear' Franchise; Konami Should Give Him 'Silent Hill'

bloody disgusting - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 15:57

Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, is such a tease. The problem is I don’t think he knows he’s teasing us.

It’s been mentioned before that Kojima could potentially take the reigns on a new Silent Hill game, which could be powered by Kojima’s FOX Engine. The idea of a series reboot from someone with his experience is exciting, even though he’s admitted he isn’t a huge fan of the horror genre.

In a recent interview, Kojima expressed a desire to depart from Metal Gear.

“Ideally I would like to step out from the Metal Gear franchise as a producer and dedicate myself to other games,” Kojima told Game Informer. “So far that has proven to be a bit difficult.” Apparently, his success in creating a franchise that’s been both critically acclaimed and wildly successful for a couple decades now is making it difficult for him to get Konami to let him tackle anything else.

As for what Kojima has in mind for his next project, he “would like to make more games that have that indie game taste or some completely different type of game with a big budget.”

“I’ve been working in the Metal Gear franchise for over 25 years. This world has allowed me to tell a lot of the things that I wanted to say. That said, it has a very specific worldview and a very specific set of game elements. I’ll probably be saying this until I die, but there are still more things I want to tell, more things I want to communicate, and more things I want to experiment with.” he continued.

Look, Konami. Silent Hill needs a reboot. You know it, I know it, Jeremy Blaustein knows it, Dave Cox knows iteveryone knows it. The only question left is who is going to be in charge of bringing this once haunting and mesmerizingly beautiful survival horror series back to its former glory.

I vote for Kojima.

American Horror Story's Lily Rabe Joins The Veil and The Visitors

Dread Central - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 15:57

One of the few actors to appear in all three seasons of "American Horror Story," Lily Rabe is on a roll as far as genre fare is concerned, and she's just been tapped to star in two upcoming projects that will further endear her to us horror fans. Read on!

First up, THR reports that Rabe will topline low budget supernatural thriller The Veil, which is being produced by Blumhouse Productions. She joins the previously announced Thomas Jane and Jessica Alba.

Written by Robert Ben Garant and set to be directed by Phil Joanou, the film's story revolves around members of a religious cult known as Heaven's Veil, who take their own lives. The truth behind what really happened remains buried deep in the memory of the sole survivor, a 5-year-old girl, who returns to the compound with a documentary crew as an adult. They soon discover something that is far more terrifying than anything they could have imagined.

Rabe will play the adult survivor opposite Alba’s doc filmmaker.

Also, Deadline reports that Rabe will star in the ABC pilot "The Visitors," a TV venture from Steven Spielberg's company Amblin. Penned by Soo Hugh, "The Visitors" chronicles the race against the clock to defeat an unseen alien enemy out to destroy the world.

Rabe will play Claire Bennigan, an FBI agent and single mother who is torn between work and home life.

The Demolisher Begins Pre-Production; See the Teaser Poster and Concept Art

Dread Central - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 15:52

Word of a "hyper-violent" new film from Latefox Pictures landed in our inbox this week, and with pre-production for The Demolisher kicking off in Toronto, we have the first details, some concept art, and a teaser poster to share.

From the Press Release:
Latefox Pictures will be slamming into production with The Demolisher, scheduled to begin shooting in late spring 2014.

Directed by Gabriel Carrer (In the House of Flies), The Demolisher chronicles the story of a man named Bruce (Ry Barrett; The Drownsman), an ordinary repairman tormented by a crippling sense of responsibility for his disabled wife, Samantha (Tianna Nori; Clean Break), a former policewoman and survivor of a gang-related assault. Bruce’s increasing hyper-sensitivity to the injustice suffered by his wife steers him down a dark path of vigilantism. With his rapidly disintegrating mental health, paranoia, and overwhelming sense of condemnation, Bruce channels his inner rage, punishing a young woman, Marie (Jessica Vano; The Unabomber Manifesto), and finding refuge in a world of intense violence.

The Demolisher is both a character study and a psychological examination of trauma, resulting in an unapologetic portrayal of what can happen when a fragile mind is pushed too far. “The film is complex and character-driven, dealing with an outpouring of raw emotion,” said director Carrer, also one of the film’s producers. “It delicately juggles our sympathetic nature and reactions to chance encounters with the dangerous and addicted intoxication of violence. The film’s narrative pertains to the film industry, or any industry for that matter, and the level of abuse that can be endured,” he concludes.

Award-winning cinematographer Martin Buzora (Neverlost) will capture the film’s fresh hyper-visual aesthetic. Along with Carrer, The Demolisher is produced by Barrett, AK Lamm, Duane Frey, Christian Burgess, Martin Buzora, Nathan Hawkins, and Andrew Wood.

For further information, visit the official The Demolisher Facebook page, which will be regularly updated with concept artwork and sneak previews from the upcoming soundtrack, produced worldwide by talented and upcoming electronic music producers and remixers.

Syfy Nabs the Metal Hurlant Chronicles

Dread Central - Tue, 02/25/2014 - 15:47

We've been talking about the "Metal Hurlant Chronicles" around these parts for what feels like forever, and finally we have some good news... We'll finally be able to see it too!

According to Variety, Syfy has acquired the first two seasons of the French science-fiction/action series "Metal Hurlant Chronicles."

Helmed by Guillaume Lubrano, the English-language show was produced by We Productions and is co-produced by Belvision and Nexus. “Metal Hurlant Chronicles” is based on the French sci-fi and fantasy comics anthology published in the U.S. as “Heavy Metal” and created by comic artists Jean Giraud (a.k.a.
