The folks over at Magnet Releasing love all of us horror fans very much. I know this because they're constantly releasing quality genre product. And now, to show us how much they truly care, they're even going to take us on a Honeymoon (review). How romantic is that?! Read on for all the lovey dovey details!
From the Press Release
The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnet Releasing, genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, announced today that they have acquired world rights to HONEYMOON, the chilling directorial debut from Leigh Janiak, which had its world premiere at SXSW earlier this month.
HONEYMOON features rising star Rose Leslie (HBO’s "Game of Thrones," "Downton Abbey") and Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger, "Penny Dreadful"). Janiak co-wrote the film with Phil Graziadei; Patrick Baker and Esmé Howard produced.
Leslie and Treadaway star as young newlyweds who travel to remote lake country for their honeymoon where the promise of private romance awaits them. Shortly after arriving, Paul finds Bea wandering and disoriented in the middle of the night. As she becomes more distant and her behavior increasingly peculiar, Paul begins to suspect something more sinister than sleepwalking took place in the woods.
Christina Rogers and the Magnolia Pictures International team will be representing the film at the upcoming Marché du Film in Cannes. All international rights are available.
HONEYMOON will next be featured at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. Magnet will release the film later this year.
“HONEYMOON is an auspicious debut from the very talented Leigh Janiak, who has a preternatural mastery of tone and mounting dread, not to mention a deft hand with actors,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway have stunning chemistry—they light up the screen.”
Said director Janiak: "I feel incredibly honored to have my first feature in Magnet's smart and expert hands. I'm so excited to work with them—they're the perfect home for the film, and I know they will do great things with it."

Whether or not you choose to believe in extraterrestrial beings, there's no denying that the topic of discussion is an utterly fascinating one that manages to capture the imagination like no other.
Personally, I'm still not even sure what my feelings are on the matter, but what I can say is that there will never be enough documentaries in the world to fully satiate my interest in the topic.
The latest of such documentaries, titled Mirage Men, was just digitally released today, and it looks to be one of the more fascinating ones we've yet seen, peeling back the curtain and exploring government coverups in an effort to at long last expose the truth.
Sound interesting? Head over to Yekra to digitally rent the doc, and whet your appetite with the trailer below!
Directed by John Lundberg, Mark Pilkington, Roland Denning, and Kypros Kyprianou, Perception Management’s Mirage Men has already generated buzz at Austin’s Fantastic Fest in September and at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in November. The film examines how, for nearly 60 years, teams within the U.S. Air Force and Intelligence services exploited and manipulated beliefs about UFOs and ET visitations as part of their counterintelligence programs. In doing so, they spawned a mythology so powerful that it captivated and warped many brilliant minds, including several of their own. Now, for the first time, some of those behind these operations, and their victims, speak out, revealing a true story that is part Manchurian Candidate and part Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Our own Scott Hallam recently wrote that Son of Ghostman (review) should without a doubt be watched by all horror fans, despite the fact that it's not really a horror film. Rather, it's a love letter to horror films and the fans like us who simply cannot get enough of them.
Today we've got the trailer for Son of Ghostman on tap for ya, which will give you an idea of what Scott was talking about. Check it out, and let us know if you see just a little bit of yourself in it!
Written and directed by Kurt Larson, the film stars Larson himself as well as Devin Ordoyne and Angela Gulner.
Denny McNamara has been recently dumped, he’s unemployed, and his older brother, Harold, is threatening to sell the house Denny rents. By all accounts he’s a loser. Motivated by his childhood hero, a local celebrity horror host named Ghostman, Denny tries to find his identity by throwing on monster makeup and becoming the “Son” of Ghostman. Thing is, Denny isn’t exactly suited for the role, but his awkward pain-inducing videos go viral anyway, and he must decide what and where his future lies.
Kevin Tancharoen endeared himself to horror fans with his kick-ass Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, and now he's back with the pilot for another one, The Gable 5, starring ass kicker supreme Eliza Dushku.
The Gable 5, which premiered today exclusively on Machinima, is directed by Tancharoen and written by him and Scott Martin. Producers are Hayden Roush and Marina Stabile.
In a remote location, a secret facility exists unlike anything the world has ever seen. Run by Dr. Conrad Gable, a renowned neurologist, the facility is years ahead of its time when it comes to the technology it's using to research the human body. With an unlimited budget backed by a classified department of the government, Dr. Gable's motives appear to be for the greater good of humanity - the chance to create a drug so powerful it could be used to win every battle, every war, with no casualties.
Now all he needs are 5 test subjects...

Well, that was fast! Just a few days after the announcement came that Phantasm: Ravager was complete, along comes a teaser trailer. Check it out along with additional details about the film right here, and expect lots more soon!
From the Press Release:
Filmmaker Don Coscarelli has announced that PHANTASM: RAVAGER, the long-awaited fifth and final entry in his classic horror Phantasm series, has completed principal photography.
The original Phantasm was a worldwide critical and box office smash, spawning a huge cult of fans around the world and three well received sequels.
For the first time in the franchise's history, a new director is helming the production, one David Hartman. Hartman is a multiple Emmy-nominated animation director, whose work can be seen in such celebrated shows as Transformers Prime and Roughnecks: Starship Troopers. Serious genre fans have long been familiar with Hartman’s edgier output, including two blood-soaked music videos for Rob Zombie ("American Witch" and "Lords of Salem") and his illustrations of Steve Niles' Strange Cases for Image Comics.
"I felt it was time to let someone else play with my train set," noted Coscarelli, who co-wrote the film with Hartman and produced the film under his Silver Sphere banner along with executive producer Brad Baruh. "David and I go back to my film Bubba Ho-Tep. He did terrific visual effects on that and more recently created a wild animated sequence and some amazing visual effects in my most recent film, John Dies at the End. Our aesthetics are in sync, and he's quite an experienced director in his own right," Coscarelli stated.
"Having worked with Don [Coscarelli] before and being a huge fan of the entire Phantasm franchise, it was a great honor to do RAVAGER with him," says Hartman. "This film is a real turning point in the series. There's real closure for the core characters that I hope fans will respond to. We were fortunate to shoot amazing new sequences with horror icon Angus Scrimm—he has terrific scenes with Reggie (Bannister) and Mike (Michael Baldwin) that are truly powerful.”
Production on RAVAGER took place in and around Southern California over the past two years. "The Phantasm films have been a guerrilla operation for decades now, totally outside of the studio system," Coscarelli notes. "We do them for the fans, and I think Ravager will definitely please them. In the past few years several studios have made offers to remake Phantasm with large budgets, but the fans were very vocal that they wanted the original cast to return and finish this iteration of the story with class. And for the first time there’s an extended sequence on the Tall Man’s home world. I know Phantasm fans will be as excited as I am to see it.”
RAVAGER features Reggie Bannister (a veteran of all five films) in his decades-long pursuit of the malevolent Tall Man, and it finally forces him to confront the mysteries at the heart of the Phantasm saga. The entire original cast is back including Michael Baldwin, Bill Thornbury, Kat Lester, and Angus Scrimm, along with some great new characters. Coscarelli allows, “There are also some surprises thrown in that I promise will astonish long-time fans.”
A new one-sheet in promotion of indie filmmaker Mitchel Viernes' new practical effects extravaganza, Peter and the Colossus, is here; and it stokes our love for men in monster suits over CGI tenfold. Check it out!

After school each day, Peter walks through a forest on his way home in order to avoid any confrontation with the school bullies, and on the way he makes an unlikely friendship that teaches him how to let others in and even helps mend his relationship with Rachel.

For years now the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" alumni at RiffTrax have been producing video riffs, MP3 riffs, and live movie theater broadcasts. On April 1st RiffTrax is finally going primetime.
Fill your head with knowledge while having belly laughs as you experience a "Total Riff-Off" thanks to the National Geographic Channel of all networks.
Word began breaking across the internet a few days ago that Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett, formerly of MST3K/currently of RiffTrax, were poised to return to TV on April Fool's Day, poking fun at some of National Geographic's programming. Now we have official confirmation from the Riffers themselves. Here's what they had to say on the RiffTrax website:
Yes, that date is April Fool’s, but there’s no joke here. Well, there will be jokes. Lots of jokes. Jokes told by us, on television. But the fact that there WILL be jokes isn’t a joke, you see... Look, we’ll start over.
We are incredibly excited to announce that RiffTrax will take over the National Geographic Channel for a special night of riffs, badass dino birds, rage-filled shrimp, demon bats, and more!
The good folks at National Geographic have taught the world about animals, science, and fascinating cultures for years. Now, in their infinite wisdom, they’ve seen fit to have RiffTrax riffmasters Michael J. Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy take on some of their wildest, strangest discoveries. This will be the guys’ first time riffing on television since Mystery Science Theater 3000, and trust us, you do NOT want to miss it. Think of them as the kids in the back of high school science class cracking wise, except funnier, and with better skin.
So flap your wings, flex your dorsal fin, or just move your regular old boring human feet, but do whatever you have to do to get yourself in front of a TV for the rapid-fire hilarity of "TOTAL RIFF-OFF" on National Geographic!
The "Total Riff-Off" begins Tuesday, April 1st, at 8PM ET with "Killer Shrimp N' Friends." The RiffTrax gang has fun with some funky underwater mudbugs from an episode of "Bad@$$ Animals" and then dive into a segment from "My Dog Ate What?" featuring a pup with an affinity for thongs.
At 9PM ET the riffing turns its attention to cryptozoology with an episode of "Man vs. Monster" featuring the hunt for a giant flesh-eating "Demon Bat."
The third and final hour at 10PM EST begins with the special relationship between a "Guy and a Goose" from an episode of "Unlikely Animal Friends" and ends with the gator wranglers of "Swamp Men" and the highly trained K-9s of "Alpha Dogs."
With any hope "Total Riff-Off" can turn into a regular thing bouncing around the various cable channels riffing on some of their programming. Just imagine what could happen if RiffTrax ever got hold of some of the shows airing on TLC or Bravo.

Filmmaker Francis Xavier dropped us a line recently to give us the skinny on his latest genre project, Less Than a Whisper. Read on for the first details along with a few stills and the film's artwork!
"This is a story that I've been waiting to make into a film for many years now, and broadly speaking, there are many surprises," Xavier tells us. "My passion for film is expressed through the story, which I have done for many years now."
"Having always been surrounded by art and cinema all my 52 years, I have developed my film and artistic skills, as well as my creative eye, watching great directors such as Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch. I always felt people watched movies to be entertained, and the key note of Less Than a Whisper, the thing I should be concerned with, the thing I'm aiming for, the thing I'm working toward, is entertainment. What I’m creating is a function of providing an adult, meaningful, exciting, challenging ghost story without dealing with any controversy necessarily. A movie should make a comment on the things that affect our lives. It's my thinking that an audience will sit still, listen, and watch a well-told story, and I truly believe Less Than A Whisper is that story."
Xavier also wrote the film and stars alongside Sonia Monroy (in her first American movie).
Look for more on this one soon.

AMC Developing Walking Dead Companion Show, New Chris Carter Area 51 Series, Plus Pilots Involving Exorcism, the Occult, and More!
TV's 2014 Upfront presentations are currently under way, and while the horror news has been light so far, today it was AMC's turn, and they have several projects in development that caught our eye.
First, the thus far untitled "The Walking Dead" companion series has landed Dave Erickson ("Sons of Anarchy") as an executive producer and co-writer along with Robert Kirkman.
As Kirkman said previously, "After ten years of writing the comic book series... I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of 'The Walking Dead' universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."
Now, as for the rest, along with "The After," which is heading to Amazon, Chris Carter has "Area 51" in the works at AMC. Written by Carter and and executive produced by him and Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead,” The Terminator), the show is based on the NY Times best-seller Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base by Annie Jacobson. It's a contemporary conspiracy thriller revealing the true story behind the infamous Area 51, America’s most mysterious military installation. (If this sounds a bit familiar, we got the first word about this back in November of 2011 with a follow-up in July of 2012. Things do move slow in TV land!)
Next is "Strange Angel," executive produced by Ridley Scott and David Zucker of Scott Free. AMC has optioned the book Strange Angel: The Otherworldly Life of Rocket Scientist John Whiteside Parsons by George Pendle, based on the life of Jim Parsons, a brilliant rocket scientist and co-founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. While a pioneer in research that had only recently been dreamed up in science fiction, his bright future gave way to ruin as Parsons headed down another, darker path into the occult community of mid-century Los Angeles.
Then we have "The Sparrow," written and executive produced by Michael Perry (“The River,” Paranormal Activity 2). Based on Mary Doria Russell’s acclaimed science-fiction epic, “The Sparrow” tells the story of a Jesuit-led mission to make first contact with an alien race.
Now, about that exorcism project... It's called "Outer Darkness," written and co-executive produced by Jim McDermott. The other executive producers are Stacey Sher (Pulp Fiction) and Michael Shamberg (Django Unchained, Pulp Fiction) of Double Feature Films. It's said to be a "grounded" take on exorcism by exploring everyday evil in an idyllic Midwestern town.
The network has also optioned Somewhere East of Life by Brian Aldiss with an eye toward developing it as a scripted drama series. Set in the near future, it tells the story of a man as he tries to reclaim his identity after having the last 10 years of his memories stolen.
Lastly, for fans of Kevin Smith (we know you're out there!), AMC renewed his "Comic Book Men" for a fourth season and is expanding their relationship to include the development of a late-night project, "Hollywood Babble-On," starring Smith and his co-host of their popular podcast, Ralph Garman, to be produced by Wilshire Studios and executive produced by Smith, Garman, and Gary Auerbach. Additionally, AMC is also working with Smith on the development of a docu-series featuring super-collector and "Comic Book Men" regular Robert Bruce. Produced by Original Media and Smith’s Smodcast Pictures and exec produced by Dan Laikind, Charlie Corwin, Elyse Seiden, and Smith, Bruce and his fellow experts scour the country searching real estate sales, auction houses, and flea markets on a quest to find rare items that will feed the needs of his demanding clients and add to Bruce’s own colossal collection.
Look for more on these projects as it comes!
