Uni Dates Evil Santa Movie, ‘Krampus,’ Supernatural ‘Spectral’

bloody disgusting - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 18:18

Universal is getting into the spirit of two holidays.

They’ll be celebrating Christmas with their evil Santa Claus movie, Krampus, by releasing the Legendary Pictures’ anthology on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, setting it up for a long Thanksgiving weekend. The film, a twisted horror comedy set around the Christmas holiday, is to be directed by Trick ‘r Treat‘s Michael Dougherty. It’s based on an ancient legend about a pagan demon who punishes the wicked.

Uni’s other Legendary horror pic, Spectral, will be haunting Manhattan on August 12, 2016. Nic Mathieu is directing the pic that stars Emily Mortimer, James Badge Dale, Max Martini and Cory Hardrict. As previously reported, the premise of the project is centered on a modern-day, militaristic and gritty approach to fighting the supernatural. Sources say the pitch has been described as a darker and more serious take on a Ghostbusters-like story, with a plot that revolves around a special ops group formed to bring down evil ghosts that have taken over Manhattan.

Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Parodies ‘Carrie’ In His ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

bloody disgusting - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 18:15

The viral ice bucket challenge that is helping raise money for ALS has been a smashing success, raising millions of dollars and also bringing some amazing and hilarious videos of people getting doused in ice cold water. But Dave Grohl of rock band Foo Fighters may very well have created the best one yet!

The clip starts off innocently enough, with Grohl explaining who he is, the purpose of the video, and then calling out Stephen King (who accepted the challenge), John Travolta, and Jack Black. From there, the video pulls back and reveals itself to be a parody of Carrie, complete with scenes from the original film itself. Grohl plays Carrie while Taylor Hawkins plays Tommy, her prom date. It’s pretty awesome and you should give it a watch!

You can donate to the ALS at their official website.

Update On That ‘Halloween: The Next Chapter’ Story…

bloody disgusting - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 16:44

UPDATE: The official Halloween Facebook page writes that the following is completely inaccurate. In fact, our former story regarding Halloween 3D is probably more on the right track….

This story has been edited as of 4:40PM PST.

The Michael Myers legacy will continue on when Dimension Films, along with producer Malek S. Akkad, gear up for the latest entry in the Halloween franchise.

Back in May we exclusively reported that the next film was happening, and it was confirmed by the official Halloween website. Earlier this afternoon Schmoeville has reported that the title was going to be Halloween: The Next Chapter. But alas, it was untrue.

They wrote that the film would be a fresh new take on the Halloween legacy that would be a companion to the Zombie movies, which may or may not confirm Scout Taylor-Compton’s premature casting announcement. New writers were said to be attached and expected to turn in draft this fall.

John Carpenter’s 1978 classic followed a psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood for the murder of his sister, who escapes and stalks a bookish teenage girl and her friends while his doctor chases him through the streets.

Zombie told a similar tale, while mixing in plenty of Zombie-isms. The sequel went in a more personal and brutal direction. What do you want from the next entry?

    ‘Zombeavers’ Attack UK Audiences, First

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 12:18

From the producers of American Pie, Cabin Fever and The Ring comes Zombeavers; the allegedly hilarious no-holds-barred schlock horror releasing in the UK on Blu-ray and DVD October 20, 2014.

Announced earlier this year at the Berlin Film Festival, it garnered over 2 million trailer views and became quite the social media and festival sensation. Zombeavers is the horror comedy with hysterical interludes, gross-out gore and old school animatronics. Making its highly anticipated UK debut at Film4 FrightFest on Thursday 21st August at the Vue West End cinema, Leicester Square, London, the UK Premiere will be the first opportunity fans will have to see Zombeavers on the big screen ahead of its home entertainment release.

The film follows a group of college students headed out into the wilderness for spring break, unaware of the danger that lurks beneath the lake. Unbeknownst to the vacationers a chemical spill has irreversibly altered the wildlife and Zombeavers are on the prowl. As a weekend of sex, drugs and debauchery gets underway, the beavers close in on their prey and the bloodthirsty beasts really do take the term ‘killer weekend’ to the next level.

[Fantastic Fest '14] ‘Alleluia’ Trailer Loaded With Sex and Violence

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 12:01

Fantastic Fest is set to screen Music Box’s latest acquisition, Fabrice du Welz’s Alleluia, starring Stéphane Bissot, Lola Dueñas and Édith Le Merdy

Fabrice du Welz is the director behind the 2004 Calvaire and the criminally underrated 2008 Vinyan.

Below you’ll find the brand new trailer to of with a bunch of images we were able to dig up, as well as a lengthy synopsis.

“Manipulated by a loving and jealous husband, Gloria has run away with her daughter and started a new life far away from men and from the rest of the world. Impelled by her friend, Madeleine, she agrees to meet Michel through a dating site. The first time they see each other, there is a spark. Michel, the small-time crook (profession: gigolo), is thrilled and Gloria falls deeply in love.

Out of fear, Michel runs away, but Gloria comes to find him and makes him promise never to leave her again. She is ready to do anything to salvage this love. She abandons her daughter and pretends to be Michel’s sister, so that he can continue his “widow” scams.

But jealousy drives Gloria crazy, and she eventually kills Marguerite, one of the widows. Michel is in shock, but the two lovers remain tied to each other by some powerful link. They will keep going on their sordid path. Beyond the morbid pact that unites them, Michel finds in Gloria a sort of mother figure he has always been deprived of; for Gloria, Michel is the incarnation of absolute love in a life she thought was over.

Alleluia is the free adaptation of a news item that shook the United States from 1947 to 1949; the story of Martha Beck and Raymond Fernandez, or how a young nurse and a swindler, small-time gigolo, will fall into a deadly tragedy.”

Director Jesse Thomas Cook Talks Septic Man

    Dread Central - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 12:00

A more serious take on slime punk films like Toxic Avenger and Slime City, Jesse Thomas Cook's Septic Man (review) has more in common with Cronenberg’s tragic transformation tale The Fly.

Thanks mostly to the twisted mind of screenwriter Tony Burgess (Pontypool), Septic Man has a lot more going on under the surface than just a basic story about a man trapped underground inside a tank of absolute filth who begins to transform into something monstrous.

Director Cook spoke with us about the film and how it was one of the hardest, grossest experiences of his professional life thus far - but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have a hell of a time doing it.

DC: How was your experience at Fantasia with your latest sci-fi film Ejecta? Is there a favorite project you and [Tony] Burgess have worked on so far?

JTC: Oh, Fantasia was awesome, man. It’s sort of the Fantastic Fest of Canada. Everyone’s open to new, original content and Ejecta went over tremendously well. We got to take Tony Burgess there and Julian Richings, who had a big role in Septic Man, too. We love doing these fests; it’s what gets our films out there and spreads the word.

DC: This is my second time seeing [Septic Man], I just watched it again a couple days ago, and last weekend I was trapped in an elevator and had an unexpected panic attack here in Brooklyn. So, watching it a few days after that and seeing that kind of confinement really hit home for me! Do you have any claustrophobia yourself or fear of confinement?

JTC: (laughs) I definitely do, yeah; my entire life I have, and with this film in particular I wanted to make that sort of claustrophobic atmosphere and do sort of a chamber play all set in one confined space. Initially the idea was just about a man trapped in a well, which I had pitched to Tony Burgess, and his disgusting mind was able to transform it into what he later called 'a gift' for him as a writer, to be able to do this movie about a guy slowly entering this existential crisis and transforming into this shit demon. But yeah, absolutely, the idea was about a claustrophobic, in the vein of Buried and Saw; I looked at it as a straightforward survival horror film. Tony was able to add a ton of philosophical underpinnings that only he can add to a project.

DC: Did the space restriction make this one of your most difficult shooting experiences? What was the day-to-day like?

JTC: Well, you see early in the first act there’s a few scenes set outside of the septic tank. Those were fun and easy, and we banged them out fairly quickly; everything in the septic tank was incredibly difficult. It was a big set that we had built with all sorts of windows and secret hatches so that we could film by staying out of the tank for a little bit. But, for the most part, there were seven or eight of us stuck in this nightmare of a film set that became very difficult to work in. Simple things on a film shoot you take for granted, like walking across the set and moving an apple box or tweaking a light - all of those were elaborate coordination amongst the crew that were stuck in there. So we would kind of get in there, shut the door, and we wouldn’t come out for six hours until our lunch because we were worried if you did come out, you wouldn’t want to go back in! It stunk, it was wet, it was cold and just generally uncomfortable - but those type of things tend to develop a brotherhood, I think, with crew members that you’re collectively suffering with.

DC: I’m sure just trying to go out for a smoke break or a “safety meeting” must have been pretty difficult.

JTC: (laughs) Well, thankfully, the crew were all fine with us just smoking right in there and just tossing our cigarette butts right in the septic tank. We had this very squeamish focus puller who, I think, once or twice actually vomited right in the set. We couldn’t clean it up, and even if we could of, it just added to the realness of the set.

DC: How big was the set?

JTC: It was 16 x 20 x 16, I believe. We could do bird’s eye views through the hatch. Six weeks before the shoot, [Jason Brown] had been a production designer on our last films with small acting roles in them, so he was primarily a designer. But we went to him to play the role and who better to build it than the guy who’s gonna be trapped in it. The whole set actually blew up on us. We were filling it with water before wrap, we had to fill the tank up into ten feet of water, and midway through the entire set walls just buckled and unleashed a wave of water and we had to scramble to repair it for the last day of the shoot. We had to change a couple major scenes in the script to work in the fact that the tank could not hold ten feet of water.

DC: With Septic Man, it feels like an origin story. Is there any chance of a Septic Man crossover with Bad Milo? If you saw that film, they could be the shit demons of Groot and Rocket Raccoon.

JTC: I just saw Bad Milo about two weeks ago! Yeah, it would be interesting to explore the character outside of his little hive of where he grew to become Septic Man. You’re right; it was all in the back of our mind that it was supposed to be this kind of origin story sort of like The Fly and Toxic Avenger. Tony [Burgess] was able to add in all sorts of bizarre existential underpinnings so that it does leave it open-ended for sure.

Septic Man is now in limited release in theaters and is also available on VOD across multiple platforms.

    Demonic ‘Horns’ International Poster

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 11:38

Daniel Radcliffe is up front and center on this international one-sheet for RADiUS-TWC’s Horns, which demonizes Radcliffe as a Devil.

Based on Joe Hills’ graphic novel of the same name, the film is slated for release on Halloween, October 31.

Blamed for the murder of his girlfriend and ostracized by everyone he knows, a small-town guy (Daniel Radcliffe) awakens one morning to find he’s grown a pair of horns. Armed with the supernatural powers they possess, he sets out to find the true killer.

Directed by Alexandre Aja (High Tension, Mirrors, Piranha 3D, The Hills Have Eyes) from Keith Bunin’s script, Horns stars Daniel Radcliffe, Juno Temple, Max Minghella, Joe Anderson, Kelli Garner, Heather Graham, David Morse, Kathleen Quinlan, and James Remar.

Bloody Disgusting’s Mike Pereira was a huge fan – read his review here – calling it “an audacious, wonderfully twisted romantic horror fantasy.”

‘Soulmate’ Opening Cut By British Censors

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 11:37

Soda Pictures has shared a deleted opening scene from Soulmate, which is now on home video in the UK. The clip was too much for British censors, who I guess have issues with suicide on screen.

In the film, “Recently widowed Audrey moves to the countryside in a bid to get her life back on track. When she realizes the cottage she’s renting is haunted, she decides to stay and strikes up an odd relationship with the ghost…

Audrey (played by Anna Walton, who also appeared in Carolyn’s short film The Halloween Kid) is a suicidal woman mourning the recent death of her husband. Isolating herself in an old country cottage away from friends and family, she soon develops a relationship with the ghost (Tom Wisdom) haunting the property. What follows is an atypical genre film in which love is not the ultimate cure-all.

Anna Walton (Hellboy 2), Tom Wisdom (300), Nick Brimble (A Knight’s Tale) and Emma Cleasby (Dog Soldiers) star. Writer-director Axelle Carolyn’s feature debut is produced by Claire Otway and is a Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) presentation for Sterling Pictures.

First Look At Paul Rudd In ‘Ant-Man’

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 11:33

It feels like just yesterday when I talked about getting our first look at Paul Rudd in Ant Man. Well turns out USA Today got the exclusive scoop along with offering some more musings on the plot. Really seems like this heist is going to be the cornerstone of the film, and Scott Lang looks a little rough around the edges.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man (in theaters July 17, 2015) began production in San Francisco Monday.

I dig it. Now I can’t wait to see him in the suit itself.

In Ant-Man, Lang is an ex-con and thief who finds a mentor figure in Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), a genius scientist and inventor of a technology that allows a man to shrink down to the size of an insect but also increase his strength.

When powerful forces — including Pym’s star employee Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), aka Yellowjacket — want the secret to the breakthroughs for their own nefarious uses, Pym passes the mantle — and helmeted supersuit — of Ant-Man to Lang and the two men plan an ambitious heist that if successful will save the world.

Get an Exclusive Preview of The Damned Soundtrack by Frederik Wiedmann

    Dread Central - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 11:30

IFC Midnight, in association with Five 7 Media, is releasing The Damned in theaters on August 29th, but first, thanks to Lakeshore Records, the THE DAMNED - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is available today, August 19th!

    From the Press Release:
Lakeshore Records will release the THE DAMNED - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on August 19, 2014. The album features original music by Frederik Wiedmann (Beware the Batman, Green Lantern: The Animated Series), who is a frequent collaborator of director Victor Garcia.

“I hope this soundtrack will keep you on the edge of your seat!” said Wiedmann.

“I met Freddie seven years ago for what was going to be our first movie together (Return to House on Haunted Hill) and ended up being the first of several collaborations,” said Garcia. “The amazing cues he's accomplished and the organic way in which his score fits the pacing makes The Damned be, without a doubt, my favorite collaboration with Freddie so far.”

Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Frederik came to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a film composer. After a couple assistant positions, Wiedmann scored his first feature, Return to House on Haunted Hill for Dark Castle Entertainment, Warner Premier, in 2007. Since then he has written music for a wide variety of feature films such as Hostel: Part III (Sony) and The Hills Run Red (Dark Castle Entertainment, Warner Premier).

“In The Damned we follow a family as they deal with their hidden secrets while, at the same time, try to defeat an ancient evil,” described Garcia. “The only thing I can say about the amazing score Freddie created this time is that I thought that I had a very clear idea of what I wanted for it to sound like until the moment I listened to the first sample that he sent me.”

“Early on in the process, Victor and I discussed how we can create an environment for this film that has a distinct flavor and concept,” Wiedmann described. “Since most of the film takes place in Colombia, I suggested the use of South American woodwind instruments, used in an unconventional way, merely to evoke a sense of place, but in a subtle, not too obvious way.

The Damned, which also hit VOD on July 25th, tells the story of American David Reynolds (Peter Facinelli; Twilight movie series, "Nurse Jackie"), widowed from his Colombian-born wife, who flies to Bogota with his new fiancée (Sophia Myles; Underworld) to retrieve his rebellious teenage daughter, Jill (Nathalia Ramos; "Switched at Birth"). En route to the city of Medellin, a car accident leaves them stranded in a run-down isolated inn. When they discover the old innkeeper has locked a young girl in the basement, they are determined to set her free. In saving the young girl, they ultimately unleash an ancient evil that's been waiting to wreak havoc on all that cross its path.

‘Feed the Gods’ Trailer Reveals Creature and Decapitation…

    bloody disgusting - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 11:19

We now have the latest promo trailer for XLrator Media’s horror-thriller Feed the Gods, which will release through its “Macabre” brand from Bleiberg Entertainment’s genre label Compound B.

The film, which stars Shawn Roberts (Resident Evil: Afterlife, Diary of the Dead), Tyler Johnston (“The Killing,” “Supernatural”), Emily Tennant (Jennifer’s Body) and Aleks Paunovic (This Means War), “follows the journey of two brothers in search of their long lost parents. Their quest leads them to Tendale, a small mountain town that is home to mythical Bigfoot-like creature with a “taste for tourists.”

Drawing inspiration from early Sam Raimi, Peter Jackson and “Cabin in the Woods,” “Feed the Gods” marks the second feature film from writer/director Braden Croft. When slacker/aspiring filmmaker Will (Shawn Roberts, “Resident Evil: Afterlife”) finds the parents of his adopted brother Kris (Tyler Johnston, “The Killing”), he sees the opportunity to get some closure for his brother, as well as maybe capture a heartwarming reunion on camera. With Kris’ fiancé Brit (Emily Tennant, “Jennifer’s Body”) in tow, the three of them head out to discover this long-lost family. What they are unprepared for though, is what exactly the cryptic small town has in store for them. Weird locals abound and rumors of a Bigfoot creature haunting the area at first seem silly… but things quickly escalate into a frantic, scary and action-packed nightmare with more than a few casualties along the way.

Slender Man Haunts Dread Central! The Eidolon State to Premiere HERE!

    Dread Central - Tue, 08/19/2014 - 11:00

We are happy to announce that we are working with Freeze Frame Film to premiere their short film The Eidolon State, which focuses on the haunting sensation that is The Slender Man. Read on for details!

Freeze Frame will be releasing the flick on YouTube Friday, August 29th, but we're going to be exclusively hosting it beginning Wednesday, August 27th!

The filmmakers' goal was to make a short film based on The Slender Man myth that stayed true to the original sources as well as being inspired by other depictions of the character. Along with this, the film's tone and atmosphere were influenced by other horror films such as The Conjuring and Sinister. The film is directed by Dion Cavallaro and Paul Thomas, who also plays the lead role of Josh alongside supporting actress Sarah Pike, who plays Ally, Josh's friend. "Originally we were going to call our antagonist 'The Tall Man' but ultimately decided that 'The Slender Man' was more fitting and more favourable with the fans," says director Cavallaro. "After 8 months of production in total, we are happy to announce the release of our 20-minute short film, The Eidolon State. Making this film has been an enjoyable journey for us, and we hope our adaption pleases fans of the character, something we hoped to achieve and hopefully have."

As for our involvement, he explains, "We contacted Dread Central about our project in earlier stages of production and they were more than happy to help promote our film. As a result, we have chosen to premiere the film through them as Dread Central felt like the perfect place for a Slender Man film to be announced and released. Dread Central not only offer the latest in Hollywood news but also help upcoming, independent filmmakers gain some exposure. The support they offer to the industry is fantastic, and we thank them greatly for their support. We are glad to have collaborated with them and would not hesitate to do so again in the future."
