The wait is finally over, and it only took 20 years. Marvel announced over the weekend that they will be re-printing the classic “Miracleman” series (also known as Marvelman), which has gone through a complicated history of legal ownership. Although the press release has no mention of Alan Moore, they do take a little stab at “Watchmen”, and we know they will be reprinting the run in its entirety, starting with the Warrior Magazine stuff.
Marvel also announced that Neil Gaiman, along with Mark Buckingham, will be delivering all-new issues. Get pumped, this is going to be big.
Official Press Release:
“[Miracleman’s] heights are highs Watchmen cannot touch. It’s that good. It’s that important.” –Sequart.org
It was the series that changed comics forever. With the utterance of one word, Michael Moran transformed from the ordinary into the extraordinary – and Miracleman was born!
Long out of print, Marvel Comics is pleased to announce that the earth-shattering stories that injected new levels of sophistication into the super hero genre will finally see the light of day once again! Starting this January, Marvel will begin publishing the legendary run of Miracleman by the original creators that began in Warrior Magazine and continued under now defunct publisher Eclipse Comics!
Fans lucky enough to have read these trailblazing stories when they were originally produced have often referred to this legendary run on Miracleman as “the lost Watchmen,” and Marvel is proud to finally bring these incredible comics to an audience that has clamored for them.
“The wait is over,” says Editor In Chief Axel Alonso. “Marvel will finally be bringing these timeless, ground-breaking stories to a whole new generation of reader.”
“We’ve been working with the Miracleman artists to obtain original artwork or photostats in every instance possible, and then applying the same painstaking restoration methods and rigorous quality standards that are utilized on the Marvel Masterworks line. The Marvel Special Projects team have even been developing some new techniques specifically for this project. These Miracleman issues will receive the most advanced restoration possible to ensure the most authentic reading experience,” says SVP of Marvel Publishing David Gabriel. “The art is crisp, clear, and looks as good – if not better than the day it was published! Also, the stories are being completely relettered to meet today’s standards.”
Making these stories available to an entirely new generation is one thing – but following the original groundbreaking run, the epic more than 30 years in the making will reach it’s cataclysmic conclusion! You heard correctly – Marvel will also be publishing all-new Miracleman stories from legendary creators Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham! Long left unfinished, Gaiman and Buckingham’s famous storyline will ultimately see the light of day!
“The tragedy of Miracleman was that we published two issues, wrote three and a half – and then it all stopped,” Gaiman said, in an interview with Marvel.com. “And Miracleman #25 has been sitting in the darkness – nobody has seen it. It was drawn, it was written, it was lettered over 20 years ago.”
“I love the idea that I will get to finish this story,” added Gaiman.
“That Neil and Bucky can finally finish the story they started, is a great relief to still-gasping fans — myself among them,” says Alonso.
Re-presented in serialized form, each issue of Miracleman features additional content including new art, interviews with the creators as well as new covers from some of the industry’s most legendary artists! Look for Miracleman #1 in print and digital this January!
AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” basic cable’s biggest series of all time, opened its fourth season Sunday with more record numbers, reports Variety.
Despite facing higher-rated sports competition this year from both football and postseason baseball, “Walking Dead” returned Sunday with a monster average audience of 16.1 million viewers — more than 5 million viewers better than last year’s 10.87 million and more than double where it kicked off its second season in October 2011 (7.26 million).
It also did a huge 8.2 rating in adults 18-49, making it easily the top-rated entertainment series telecast of the season, ahead of CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” (5.5 for its season premiere and a 6.1 for a special second episode right after it).
In adults 25-54, its 7.3 rating ties with the regular-timeslot episode of “NCIS” as the season’s best for an entertainment series. (The second “Big Bang” did an 8.0).
The previous series high for “Dead” — and the all-time best for a cable series — was its third-season finale last spring, which drew 12.42 million and a 6.4 rating in adults 18-49.
If you’re not using zombies to advertise your product, you’re doing it wrong.
The zombie sub genre is so over-saturated that even my parents stop dead in their tracks to watch a commercial if there’s a single rotting corpse on the screen. “I love this commercial,” they exclaim.
That’s why more and more ad agencies are turning to zombies to sell products, which is pretty cool considering i grew up with my parents alarmed by my obsession. Now they’re obsessed, but that’s not cool, right?
Anyways, here’s an incredibly well-made new commercial for Die Hard batteries featuring a horde of zombies running amok in the armpit of Los Angeles, and a woman’s attempt to escape them…
A few months back we told you about a project called written and directed by Josh Petrino called The Devil’s Tree and now we can unveil the cast of the film which, “is designed to use what the viewer has grown to expect out of horror films against them, without winking at the camera or referencing other movies constantly.”
The cast includes Kate Schlagle, Carolina Hidalgo, Bryan Manly Davis, Matthew Milligan and Mark Riccadonna. In addition, some more well known names (who have yet to be announced) will be joining the project in smaller roles.
In the film, ““After visiting a landmark tree rumored to be a gateway to hell, a group of friends hold a small house party where, without explanation, they realize they mentally can’t bring themselves to leave. Shortly after this revelation, torment and slaughter begins at the hands of a supernatural killer with a warped, sadistic sense of humor.”
The Devil’s Tree marks Petrino’s feature debut and is the first film from the production company “Slow Ahead Pictures.” Doug Tubach, Howard J Smith, Felicia Michaels, Mark Riccadonna, Mike Saga, Angie Elwell and Joshua Petrino comprise the company’s principal staff.

If you’ve ever entered a Halloween store, chances are almost guaranteed that you’ve heard Midnight Syndicate, the composer duo of Edward Douglas and Gavin Goska. These two horror music loving afficionados are responsible for 17 amazing albums over the course of 17 years, including Monsters Of Legend, The 13th Hour, and the official soundtrack to the roleplaying series Dungeons And Dragons.
Now, the mastermind duo behind Midnight Syndicate have announced that they want to put together a one-off show in Cleveland, OH in early November 2014 that will feature their music in a Halloween horror multimedia live concert experience. The group has put together a Kickstarter that is aiming to raise a minimum of $40,000. Rewards include a DVD of the concert, show posters, shirts, keychains, remix CDs, and much, much more.
The end goal is that this show will be able to hit the road and perform in other cities. So if you’re a fan of supporting those who live and breathe horror, head on here to kick a little bit on over!
Sony Pictures and MGM will release Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce’s remake of Carrie on October 18th. In the film, Chloë Grace Moretz takes over for Sissy Spacek as the tortured, telekinetic teen. I spoke with Moretz last week about the new film (which is actually closer to Stephen King’s book than DePalma’s adaptation), the inherent challenges of tackling such an iconic role and how someone as confident as Moretz could play such a shy outcast.
“Carrie tells the supernatural tale of a telekinetic teenage girl tormented by her peers. The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine, is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter, Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.”
Julianne Moore, Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer, and Portia Doubleday also star.
I absolutely hated Twentieth Century Fox’s X-Files: I Want to Believe, their 2008 sequel to the well-aged 1998 film adaptation of “The X-Files” television series.
I Want to Believe was putrid (read my review), and I’d like to think it was because it was a self-contained story.
It’s no secret that creator Chris Carter, and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson want to revisit the franchise for a third entry, and hope to dumpster dive back into the mythology that made the franchise so special. Personally, I want this, and I want it badly. Mulder and Scully don’t deserve to go out the way they did in that half-assed, rushed mess of a movie. And frankly, I feel like there are a ton of stories that can still be told. So do they.
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who starred in the classic Fox sci-fi TV series and the two movies as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, told the New York Comic-Con crowd that they’d be part of a third X-Files movie if it were to ever come into fruition, TheWrap reports.
“All the principals are on board,” including “X-Files” creator Chris Carter, Duchovny said during a panel discussion at a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the series’ premiere at the The Paley Center for Media in New York Saturday.
“Gillian and I want to do it, so it’s really up to Twentieth Century Fox at this point.”
Anderson told fans that if they want another film they should let their voices be heard.
“If it takes fan encouragement to get Fox interested in that, then I guess that’s what it would be,” she said.
Fox declined comment Sunday to The Wrap, but a third X Files movie is probably a long shot.
The original X Files made $189 million worldwide in 1998 and the 2008 follow-up The X-Files: I Want to Believe brought in $68 million at the global box office.
Colin Trevorrow is directing the pic and Bryce Dallas Howard is also in talks to star.
Plot details are unknown at this time, although rumors have it with a fully operational theme park.
Frank Marshall is producing.
Simpkins had been eyed early on along with Howard before production was pushed. The pic is set to bow June 12, 2015.
After premiering at the New York Comic-Con, FilmDistrict released three new telling stills, as well as a tense clip from Spike Lee’s Oldboy, starring Josh Brolin, Samuel Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Bruce Hornsby, and James Ransone.
The images introduce us to the film’s super villain, while the clip Brolin and Olsen in a tense confrontation.
In theaters November 27, “The pic is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.“
Welcome to another episode of Showdown! Last week we pitted the Silent Hill franchise against itself and today the fight is between four incredibly exciting next-gen horror games.
Battling for the title of ‘Most Anticipated Horror Game’ is Daylight, Dying Light, Dead Rising 3 and The Evil Within. Let us know which horror game you’re most excited for by voting in the poll I have waiting for your input after the jump, and feel free to let me know why you chose the game you did in the comments!
Now, you may be wondering why Frictional’s SOMA isn’t on the list. That’s because they decided to unveil it the day after I had made and uploaded this video. I wasn’t able to include it in the video, but I’ll include it in the poll, in case you want to give it a vote.

We now have a look at a pair of sneak peaks at the second episodes of both AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” which airs Sundays, and FX’s “American Horror Story: Coven,” airing Wednesdays.
Airing October 20, here’s the synopsis for “The Walking Dead” Episode 4.02, “Infected”: “The group faces a new enemy; Rick and the others fight to protect their hard-won livelihood.“
In “Coven” Episode 3.02, “Boy Parts,” debuting on October 16, “Death has failed to claim more than one person… including Madame LaLaurie, whose secrets Fiona is determined to ferret out. The next day, at Morning Gathering, Queenie tells the story of how she first discovered her powers and ancestry, and ended up at the Academy. The Gathering is interrupted by a pair of detectives, Sanchez and Stiles, who want to talk to Madison and Zoe about what happened at the frat party. Fiona makes sure their investigation ends immediately… leaving the girls utterly terrified of her. Later, Madison decides to pay Zoe back for her help. But when Madison decides to play Dr. Frankenstein and build Zoe the “perfect boyfriend,” things go gruesomely wrong. Meanwhile, Cordelia and Hank meet with a fertility doctor, but after a year of treatments there’s still no progress. Hank exhorts her to use her magic instead; Cordelia is reluctant, but ultimately assents to the black ceremony, despite her misgivings. Back at the Academy, LaLaurie tells the story of how she came to be immortal – cursed and buried alive by Marie Laveau. As Fiona confronts the still-living Marie, risking ending the ages-old truce between the witches and the voodoo priestesses, LaLaurie makes her escape… though after 180 years in a coffin, she is unprepared for the modern world. And Zoe and her new “boyfriend” find themselves with a new and somewhat unsettling ally.”
J.T. Petty’s festival fav, Hellbenders 3D, will be opening in limited theaters and on VOD platforms October 18.
Check out a new clip that teases the “Man-Child”…
Starring Clifton Collins, Clancy Brown, and Dan Fogler, Film Arcade is behind the theatrical run, with Lionsgate releasing on home video at a later date.
The film is a new horror comedy in the vein of The Exorcist and Ghostbusters.
“Taking place in modern day New York, a team of holy men (consisting of ministers and priests) battle the forces of evil.”
Schism was written by Adam Gierasch and his partner Jace Anderson (both who teamed for Night of the Demons and Autopsy), with Gierasch once again directing. Callum Blue (“Smallville”) and Ashlynn Yennie (The Human Centipede) also star in in the picture. This is a dark indie thriller in the vein of Jacob’s Ladder.
Shot on Super 16, “Dylan White has a normal, boring life. Then horrifying visions start to interrupt his waking moments, and he must face the fact that he literally doesn’t know who he is. Following clues that take him to the dark underbelly, Dylan soon finds both his life and soul in danger. Featuring a masterful performance by Callum Blue, Schism is a trip to the dark side, noir-style: bad men, bad dames, bad sex and bad intentions.”
NOT SAFE FOR WORK!
Tomorrow marks the release of the US bonus edition release of Twelve Foot Ninja‘s debut album Silent Machine (pre-order on iTunes). The band has already been making huge waves across the metal scene for their quirky, almost avant-garde approach to tech metal. And to hype things up just that wee bit more for their fans, guitarist Steve MacKay has yet another Top 5 list to bring you readers! Last week MacKay gave his Top 5 Horror Movie Plot Twists and today he wants to share with you his Top 5 Movie Death/Murder Scenes. Now, admittedly one of the selections just goes with a whole franchise but when you see which one I’m sure you’ll not only let it slide but you’ll also agree wholeheartedly. Check it out below!
Top 5 Movie Death/Murder Scenes
Final Destination (1 to 5) – These flicks have some absolutely BRUTAL death scenes. BRUTAL!
Wrong Turn 2 - When the chick gets cut clean in half standing up with an axe and half of her body is dragged along the road is some serious Mortal Kombat shit.
Ninja Assassin - Smart ass wanksters get destroyed by a ninja. Best part was when one of the dudes gets the top half of his head cut clean off and you see his tongue flopping around in the bottom part of his head.
Drive - The scene in the elevator where the main dude absolutely stomps the other guy’s head in.
Terminator 2 - I remember thinking this was hardcore the first time I saw it . . . When John Connor’s foster Dad gets impaled through the mouth when he’s drinking milk by the T-1000 masquerading as his foster Mum.

Prog-rock band A Perfect Circle has released a stream of “By And Down”, the band’s first new song in nine years. It is a studio recorded version of the song that was recorded during the band’s re-emergences in 2010 and 2011. It appears on the band’s upcoming greatest hits album Three Sixty, which comes out November 26th. The track can be streamed at Spin.
The song has all the trademarks of an APC song. It’s haunting, spacious, beautiful, and features strong syncopation. Vocalist Maynard James Keenan shines with some aching, yearning runs and Billy Howerdel coaxes some tried and true guitar tones that throw me back into the days of Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step.

Searching for a missing student, two private investigators break into his abandoned house and find another collection of mysterious VHS tapes. In viewing the horrific contents of each cassette, they realize there may be terrifying motives behind the student’s disappearance.
Open Road was hoping that the jam-packed roster of stars – including Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan, Electra Avellan, William Sadler, Lady Gaga, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens and Marko Zaror – would sell the movie. Unfortunately, it was overshadowed by both Gravity and Captain Phillips, as well as a hefty amount of negative reviews (30% on Rotten Tomatoes).
Last week I had pointed out that I thought it was bizarre how much stock Open Road was putting into “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara, as if she could sell a movie like Nicole Kidman. Even with a push from Lady Gaga and Mel Gibson the movie failed to gain any traction, proving once again that stars don’t always sell movies – on the polar opposite, Warner Bros.’ Gravity is kicking ass because it’s a good, no, great movie, and word of mouth is hot as hell. Yes, George Clooney and Sandra Bullock star, but my personal reaction is that they weren’t used to sell the movie as much as critical acclaim and great footage.
Whatever the case may be, Machete Kills opened to $3.8M, which is the 8th worst opening in history (there’s nothing like being in the company of Firehouse Dog!) for a movie in over 2,500 theaters.
What’s interesting is that Fox’s Machete opened to $11M and went on to $26M, which is great for the low price of an indie production. So what happened? Was it bad marketing (I actually thought the trailers were cool, for what it’s worth)? Bad timing? Or maybe people just hated the first movie (it sucked) and didn’t want to waste their money on the second?
The one question that now has to be asked is can Rodriguez get the third film off the ground, and would anyone even care if he didn’t?
Fans can rejoice as AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has returned for its fourth season.
The premiere just ended, so we’re curious as to what you guys thought. Would you say Season 4 kicked off with a bang? What do you want to see going forward?

Airing October 20, “The group faces a new enemy; Rick and the others fight to protect their hard-won livelihood.“.
"The Walking Dead" is officially back on the air after a long absence, and right now we have a look at next week's Episode 4.02, titled "Infected," along with some making-of videos from the premiere.
"The Walking Dead" returns to AMC on Sunday, October 20th, at 9/8c with Episode 4.02, "Infected," written by Angela Kang and directed by Guy Ferland:
