As cool as the first Hellboy film was, it just never found the sort of audience that these big-budget super-hero flicks need in order for a studio to consider them a potential franchise. Heck, even Fantastic Four 2 made more than Hellboy, and that's saying a lot. Then again, Mike Mignola's demon spawn supernatural crime fighter isn't exactly your typical super-hero, nor is he a household name like Bats, Supes, or the X-folk. So, while a sequel has long been the plan, it's also been without any sort of studio support.

Until now...

Ain't it Cool News reports that Hellboy has found a home at Universal studios (ironically, the same studio that Guillermo Del Toro walked away from after his original pitch was met with puzzled looks and shrugs). So it looks like Del Toro will be back with his second installment of Hellboy come 2008, in time to square off with those "better known" heros like Batman, Iron Man, and Wolverine...

...errr...

...maybe not such a great idea after all.
