Ah, when Horror was Goofy, and it was perfectly okay.  Such are the days of films like Night of the Demons 2.  Continuing the tradition of such titles as Bikini Island and Black Roses, Night of the Demons 2 mixes the undead and the topless, appealing to the teenage date-movie crowd.  In all fairness, this might be the first such film with a fencing nun.

The St. Nina’s Academy prep school class includes the usual bevy of blonde, redhead and brunette bimbos.  Added to the cast is Mouse/Melissa (Merle Kennedy), whose older sister is the demon known as Angela.  The demonic Angela (Kinkade) haunts a house on the edge of town, and naturally, all the kids need to check it out.  These kids include curious intellect Perry (Robert Jayne as Bobby Jacoby), amidst the jocks, and two sleazy hell raisers.  (Wow, did I just type that? Ick.)

Of course, with the setting of a school dance, one dedicated demon-summoning geek, and the idiocy of teenage hormones, what could go wrong?  It’s not like any black-clad demon chick from hell could come out of the darkness with giant prosthetic teeth.  So the Catholic School equivalent of the Pink Ladies and T-Birds decide to head out to where Satan prepares the buffet.

In the end, it comes down to whichever kids haven’t been picked off one by one, and the militant nun, against the demon prom queen and her over-biting minions.  It’s the holy vs. the wholly annoying.

Rick (Rick Peters) and Shirley (Zoe Stirling) are the one-two combination of characters you just love to hate.  He’s the twenty-something chasing high school skirts, and she’s the cocky bitch obsessed with the bad guy.  It takes a few seconds of screen time to wish death on either of them.  Industry veteran Jennifer Rhodes (Charmed, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Fame) grounds the movie perfectly as Sister Gloria.  Rob McCary (Leprechaun 3, The Flintstones, Herbie Rides Again) is perfect as Father Sucker…er…Bob, who never believes there’s any danger until it’s way too late.

The ensemble cast includes veterans like Rhodes, McCary, Darin Heames (24, Dr. Giggles), and Christine Taylor (Zoolander, Dodgeball, Room 6).  The soundtrack includes artists ranging from Morbid Angel to Tribe Nunzio.

The DVD includes the film in full screen 4 x 3 format, Dolby 2.0 stereo audio, English and Spanish subtitles, and English closed captions.  Beyond that, the only extras are trailers for other Lions Gate titles.

It’s important to uphold morale standards in Hollywood, and clearly the mission of Night of the Demons 2 was to invoke one small mathematical equation.  If A = naked and B = horny, then A + B = Dead Meat.  In terms of good, stupid, horror movies with a laugh, Night of the Demons 2 succeeds at everything it wants to be, regardless of how low that bar may be set.
