Meet ‘The Guest’ In This New Image

bloody disgusting - Thu, 06/26/2014 - 09:10

It was announced last month that Picturehouse acquired all US rights to the Sundance hit The Guest (read our review), from the visionary team behind You’re Next: director Adam Wingard, writer Simon Barrett and Snoot Entertainment’s Keith Calder and Jessica Calder.

While Picturehouse is planning a fall release for the film, we did land a brand new image that shows the title character.

From the director and writer of V/H/S and V/H/S/2, “The film tells the story of a young soldier who arrives on the doorstep of the Peterson family, claiming to be a good friend of their beloved son who died in action. The Petersons welcome David into their home and into their lives, but when people start mysteriously dying in town, mayhem ensues as their teenage daughter Anna starts wondering if David is responsible.

The Guest stars Dan Stevens of “Downton Abbey” fame, Maika Monroe, Brendan Meyer, Sheila Kelley, Leland Orser, and Lance Reddick (“American Horror Story” and “Intelligence”).

Music Box Acquires Fabrice du Welz’s ‘Alleluia’!

bloody disgusting - Thu, 06/26/2014 - 08:54

Music Box has acquired North American rights to Fabrice du Welz’s Alleluia, starring Stéphane Bissot, Lola Dueñas and Édith Le Merdy

Fabrice du Welz is the director behind the 2004 Calvaire and the criminally underrated 2008 Vinyan.

Below you’ll find a bunch of images we were able to dig up, as well as a lengthy synopsis.

“Manipulated by a loving and jealous husband, Gloria has run away with her daughter and started a new life far away from men and from the rest of the world. Impelled by her friend, Madeleine, she agrees to meet Michel through a dating site. The first time they see each other, there is a spark. Michel, the small-time crook (profession: gigolo), is thrilled and Gloria falls deeply in love.

Out of fear, Michel runs away, but Gloria comes to find him and makes him promise never to leave her again. She is ready to do anything to salvage this love. She abandons her daughter and pretends to be Michel’s sister, so that he can continue his “widow” scams.

But jealousy drives Gloria crazy, and she eventually kills Marguerite, one of the widows. Michel is in shock, but the two lovers remain tied to each other by some powerful link. They will keep going on their sordid path. Beyond the morbid pact that unites them, Michel finds in Gloria a sort of mother figure he has always been deprived of; for Gloria, Michel is the incarnation of absolute love in a life she thought was over.

Alleluia is the free adaptation of a news item that shook the United States from 1947 to 1949; the story of Martha Beck and Raymond Fernandez, or how a young nurse and a swindler, small-time gigolo, will fall into a deadly tragedy.”

‘Hannibal’ Will Be Getting Major Love With The Soundtrack Release

bloody disgusting - Thu, 06/26/2014 - 08:06

Hannibal developer Bryan Fuller tweeted yesterday that the show will be receiving a proper soundtrack release, stating that the OST, “…will be 2 volumes (S1&S2) and 4 discs (2 per season)!” The music is composed by Brian Reitzell, who also composed the newly released game Watch Dogs (more details here). You can see the tweet below.

Personally, I can’t wait for this release. I just hope it gets a vinyl issue because it seems like that would be so much more along the atmosphere of the show. Plus, even though we haven’t really seen Hannibal listening to music, I’m willing to bet he’s a vinyl junkie. Just seems to fit his personality a bit more.

BRIAN REITZELL TELLS ME THE #HANNIBALOST WILL BE 2 VOLUMES (S1&S2) AND 4 DISCS (2 per season)! I CAN'T WAIT!!

bloody disgusting - Wed, 06/25/2014 - 21:31

None of today’s deals are particularly exciting for horror fans — not to say they aren’t exciting, because BioShock Infinite is very much worth $7.49 — but there are a few flash deals and community picked sales that are of note if you’re looking to grow your collection of horror games.

The following deals won’t last long, but for the next seven hours you can grab How to Survive for $2.24 (85% off), Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season Two for $12.49 (50% off), and Gone Home for $2.99 (85% off). Gone Home isn’t a horror game, but it is one that I think everyone should play, so I had to give it a mention.

For these deals and a myriad others, check out Steam.

Shane Black’s ‘Predator’ Will Be a Sequel

bloody disgusting - Wed, 06/25/2014 - 18:14

It was announced yesterday that Shane Black, the venerable screenwriter behind Lethal Weapon and writer-director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3, will co-writing and directing a reboot of Predator for Twentieth Century Fox.

Collider quickly jumped on the case and was able to clarify that this Predator, also penned by Monster Squad‘s Fred Dekker, will actually be a sequel.

While the initial report said that Black’s new ‘Predator’ film would be a reboot, Black tells us that he and Dekker see the project as definitely not a reboot, “As far as Fred and I are concerned anyway,” Black said, adding “Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?” Black said he doesn’t like reboots generally, but can “really get behind inventive sequels”, noting that he likes “the idea of expanding and exploring the existing ‘Predator’ mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.” He went on to say that Dekker, who’s writing the screenplay, is “perfect” for the project, adding the two had a blast writing the screenplay for ‘The Monster Squad’ together.

Even if it’s a sequel I wouldn’t be shocked if FOX releases it under the title Predator or with a modern spin – The Predator.

CELEBRATE.

‘Dead Awake’ a Sleep Paralysis Horror Pic From ‘Final Destination’ Creator!! (Exclusive)

bloody disgusting - Wed, 06/25/2014 - 16:36

Incendiary Features, an Austin-based production company led by producer James LaMarr and director Phillip Guzman, has just purchased the rights to Dead Awake, the new sleep paralysis project by Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick, sources exclusively tell Bloody Disgusting. We’re told it was purchased in a six-figure deal.

The screenplay follows a young woman, investigating a mysterious death in her family, who must fight to save herself and her friends from an ancient evil that stalks its victims through the real-life phenomena of sleep paralysis.

Guzman is set to direct with production slated for this fall in central Texas.

Sleep paralysis is a phenomenon in which people, either when falling asleep or wakening, temporarily experience an inability to move. It is a transition state between wakefulness and rest characterized by complete muscle atonia (muscle weakness). It can occur at sleep onset or upon awakening, and it is often associated with terrifying visions, such as an intruder in the room, to which one is unable to react due to paralysis. – Wiki

Sleep paralysis is a terrifying and universal phenomenon with a rich mythology that dates back to biblical times,” Reddick tells us. “It’s an original and mature horror story. I know Phillip’s directing style and strong vision will give people nightmares for years to come. He adds: “This script has been a passion project for a long time.

Guzman adds: “I am thrilled about making a horror film that has never been done. Once I read Jeffrey’s skillfully crafted story, I made it my personal mission to make this movie. It’s a serious tale based on a chilling actual condition, but still has all the excitement and scares you’d expect from a genre picture.

LaMarr promises that the film will feature a “strong female character that anchors this movie.

Another interesting note out of Wiki is that the original definition of sleep paralysis was codified by Samuel Johnson in his A Dictionary of the English Language as nightmare, a term that evolved into our modern definition. Such sleep paralysis was widely considered the work of demons, and more specifically incubi, which were thought to sit on the chests of sleepers.

Paragon Picks Up ‘Mall’ From Linkin Park’s Joseph Hahn

bloody disgusting - Wed, 06/25/2014 - 16:09

Deadline reports that Paragon Pictures has picked up North American rights to Linkin Park bandmate Joseph Hahn’s feature helming debut Mall, which stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Gina Gershon, Cameron Monaghan, Peter Stormare, and James Frecheville in the story of five disaffected suburbanites whose lives come together at a shopping mall following a seemingly random shooting.

Hahn serves as beat master for Grammy-winning rock band Linkin Park and directed dozens of their music videos prior to making his feature debut. D’Onofrio, Joe Vinciguerra, and Sam Bisbee adapted the script from Eric Bogosian’s 2001 novel of the same name. Mall is produced by D’Onofrio alongside Sam Maydew for Silver Lining Entertainment. Hahn most recently directed the music video for “New Divide,” the Linkin Park track that appears in Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and the band’s latest music video for “Until It’s Gone” from their current album The Hunting Party.

Paragon is planning to release Mall this fall after Hahn hits the road on Linkin Park’s Carnivores Tour this summer.

[Video Interview] Olivia Munn On ‘Deliver Us From Evil’!

bloody disgusting - Wed, 06/25/2014 - 15:00

Writer/director Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister) sees his new, ambitious horror film Deliver Us From Evil hit theaters on July 2nd. While I was able to speak with most of the film’s leads during my set visit, Olivia Munn (“The Newsroom”, Magic Mike) didn’t happen to be shooting that day. So I was definitely excited to speak with her about the film for the first time last weekend in Los Angeles.

Munn is quote good in the film, taking on the type role that a lot of other movies and actresses have reduced to one dimension and creating a full-fledged character out if it.

[Remember This?] Original ‘Saw’ Trailer Ushers In a New Horror Era

bloody disgusting - Mon, 06/23/2014 - 15:00

In October we’ll be celebrating the 10 year anniversary of James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s Saw, which was put into wide theatrical release on October 29th, 2004. To me this is hugely significant since the film, along with Hostel four months later, helped usher in a new era of horror.

Some people call it “Torture Porn”, but Mr. Disgusting and I don’t think torture porn actually exists. It’s true that a lot of these films were markedly more brutal than their mainstream predecessors, but to call them porn implies that we’re just patiently wading through the movie to get to the money shots (the kills, in this case). That’s not the case. If anything, I’d argue that some of the sh*ttier slasher movies fill the porn model more fittingly. Films where we’re tolerating flat, poorly acted characters just waiting for the brief moments of pleasure when they’re dispatched. If we’re talking about intent, that’s porn. Saw and Hostel had plenty of interesting ideas and ambition that outstripped the lazy retreads that were littering the landscape and they were unfairly punished with that term.

In the case of Saw, it’s interesting to see how this new wave of horror was initially marketed to the public. Show them too much and they’re turned off, show them too little and you never gain their interest in the first place. I actually think the trailer does a nice job of setting up both Jigsaw’s modus operandi and the queasy concept of sawing through your own foot. It places the focus on the film’s innovative concept, the acknowledgement of which single handedly dispels the notion of “torture porn.”
