A new poster has been released for the upcoming Australian horror feature Throwback.
“Throwback follows two modern-day treasure hunters, a female park ranger and an unhinged ex-cop as they tangle with a Bigfoot-type monster known as a Yowie in the remote jungles of northern Australia.”
The film stars Shawn Brack, Anthony Ring, Melanie Serafin, and Vernon Wells of The Road Warrior and Commando fame.
Designed by Brazilian artist Juarez Ricci, the retro-style poster evokes the ’60s/’70s creature features and pulp adventure movies that inspired the film itself.
Writer/Director Travis Bain says he wanted to avoid the clichés of contemporary movie posters.
“From the get-go I knew I wanted an illustrated poster rather than your typical modern ‘floating heads’ Photoshop design,” Bain says. “Juarez’s work reminds me of the old Drew Struzan and Richard Amsel posters I grew up with, so he was a natural choice to create this artwork.”
The new one-sheet poster is available for collectors to purchase here.
Throwback recently premiered at the Bram Stoker International Film Festival in England, and Australian and North American premieres are expected to be announced over the coming months. Already the film has received strong interest from the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York, which recently invited Bain to submit Throwback for consideration for their 2014 programme.
Throwback is expected to be released on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD in 2014.

The job is so deadly dull that the two friends will do anything they can to avoid it. This doesn’t go over well with their boss Benson (an anthropomorphic gumball machine) — but their efforts often result in insane escapades that delight Pops. The series recently won a 2012 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short-format Animated Program as well as a 2012 Ottawa Intl. Animation Festival Best Television Animation Made for Children. In addition, the series was nominated for a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Award for Best Television Series (Kids).

So there was a rumor floating around that Metallica was going to be doing a gig in Antarctica later this year. It seemed rather silly and preposterous because penguins aren’t exactly the best audience in the world (although they ARE freakin’ adorable). But lo and behold it turns out that the rumors are 100% true! Below is a message from Metallica’s official website that explains the full details of their upcoming bitterly cold journey!
After over 30 years as a band, we have been unbelievably fortunate to visit just about every corner of the earth . . . except for one. That is all about to change as we are set travel to Antarctica, the only continent that Metallica has never played on until now!! We are partnering with Coca-Cola Zero for one of the most unique and special concert events in our career as we’ll be performing near the heliport of the Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
Latin American fans in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Mexico will be able to enter a contest for the chance to win an Antarctic cruise that sails December 3-10 and will stop at Carlini. We’ll be playing inside a dome on the base and in another twist, the show will be transmitted to the audience via headphones with no amplification . . . a real first for us! The show will also be streamed live for our friends in those Latin American countries who cannot join us at the base and filmed to share with everyone at a later date.
To enter the contest to join us in Antarctica, click here: http://www.coca-colazero.com.ar. Contest entry begins on October 28th.
Pack up those warm clothes and we’ll see you at the bottom of the planet!
A new supernatural thriller is on the way that will see star Will Smith begin to start Selling Time. Let's just hope this isn't a practice run for a stint selling "bling" late night on QVC in like 20 years.
According to The Wrap, Smith is attached to star in the film for 20th Century Fox. Smith does not have an official deal in place, but he is in the process of coming aboard. Coincidentally, he was attached to star in Selling Time several years ago before scheduling conflicts got in the way. Directors are currently circling the project. Expect an announcement soon.
Selling Time follows a man who is given a chance to relive the worst day of his life in exchange for seven years off his life expectancy.
The script was initially written by former DreamWorks Television president Dan McDermott, who will rewrite the script as part of his original deal. Several other writers have taken a crack at the project including Spike Lee and brothers Steven and Derick Martini.

With Riggs and Gruffudd on board, the family unit is now complete. Riggs joins Thorne in playing the siblings while Gruffudd will play the father to Martinez’s stepmother.

Clive Barker Penning Script for Hellraiser Remake! Doug Bradley Returns! The Scarlet Gospels Picked Up for Print!
HUGE breaking news, kids! Any day we get to squeeze several massive updates about Clive Barker in one story is a fine, fine day! The headline says it all; read on for details!
From Clive Barker on Facebook
HOT FROM HELL! My friends, I have some news which may be of interest to you. A few weeks ago I had a very productive meeting with Bob Weinstein of Dimension Pictures, in the course of which I pitched a remake of the first HELLRAISER film. The idea of my coming back to the original film and telling the story with a fresh intensity-honoring the structure and the designs from the first incarnation but hopefully creating an even darker and richer film-was attractive to Dimension.
Today I have officially been invited to write the script based upon that pitch. What can I tell you about it? Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER. Of course the best make-up in the world loses force if not inhabited by a first-rate actor. I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed. So once the papers are signed, I will open a Lemarchand Configuration, dip my quill in its contents and start writing. I promise that there will be nowhere on the Internet where the news of my progress will be more reliable than here, because the only author of these reports will be Your Infernal Corespondent, me. My very best wishes to you all, my friends.
If that's not enough to send you spinning out of control, how's this little tidbit from Clive's official site?
Clive is delighted to announce that St Martin's Press has acquired world English rights to publish The Scarlet Gospels, his upcoming novel featuring Pinhead and Harry D'Amour. St Martin's anticipates a winter 2015 publication date - more from Clive soon!
And now for something completely different. Honestly, we're not sure what to make of this one just yet. That doesn't mean that we're not eager to take part though! Read on if you're game.
According to Variety, luxury auto brand Infiniti has turned to The Blair Witch Project producers to create Deja View, an innovative new piece of branded entertainment that embraces a choose-your-own-adventure storytelling model and digital platforms, including websites and smartphones, to unfold a mystery.
In developing Deja View, the producers wanted to create an online film that adapts to the viewer, depending on their conversations with the onscreen characters. Viewers who want to participate visit Infinitiusa.com/deja-view and call 877-777-3785 on a mobile phone to start the story.
Directed by Phillip Van, the film re-counts the story of a couple driving in their Q50, unsure of who and where they are, whom to trust, and whom they are running from or to. Viewers affect the characters’ choices and flesh out the plot by having mobile phone conversations with the characters played by Charlotte Sullivan (“Rookie Blue”) and Andrew Pastides (“Hank & Asha”).
Way back in April we got word that BBC America is expanding its "Supernatural Saturday" lineup in 2014 to include a seven-part "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" miniseries, based on the novel by Susanna Clarke. Today we know who the cast members are.
From the Press Release:
Eddie Marsan (pictured; "Ray Donovan," The Worlds End) and Olivier award-winning Bertie Carvel (Restless, "Primeval") have been cast in BBC America’s co-production "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell," based on the bestselling novel by Susanna Clarke and adapted by Peter Harness ("Wallander," Is Anybody There?). The new seven-part drama series is to premiere as part of the channel’s Supernatural Saturday.
Further casting includes Alice Englert (Ginger & Rosa, Beautiful Creatures), Marc Warren ("The Good Wife," "Hustle"), Samuel West ("Mr Selfridge," "Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond"), Charlotte Riley (Wuthering Heights, Easy Virtue), Enzo Cilenti ("Prisoners Wives," "Rome"), and Paul Kaye ("Game of Thrones," "Stella").
The series is directed by Toby Haynes ("The Musketeers," "Doctor Who"), and the producer is Nick Hirschkorn (Five Children and It). It is produced by Cuba Pictures (Boy A, Broken) for BBC One and co-produced with BBC America, in association with Feel Films, Far Moor, Screen Yorkshire, and Bell Media’s Space. It will be distributed by Endemol Worldwide Distribution.
Set at the beginning of the 19th century, England no longer believes in practical magic. The reclusive Mr Norrell (Marsan) of Hurtfew Abbey stuns the city of York when he causes the statues of York Cathedral to speak and move. With a little persuasion and help from his man of business Childermass (Cilenti), he goes to London to help the government in the war against Napoleon. It is there Norrell summons a fairy to bring Lady Pole (Englert) back from the dead, opening a whole can of worms...
Eddie Marsan, playing Mr Norrell, says: “I can't wait to start playing Norrell in this terrific adaptation of Susanna Clarke's novel and to be working with such a cast of actors, many of whom I've admired for so long.”
Jonathan Strange (Carvel) is charming, rich, and arrogant. While trying to secure his beloved Arabella’s (Riley) hand in marriage, he meets the magician of Threadneedle Street, Vinculus (Kaye), who tells him he is destined to be a great magician. A shaken and disturbed Strange initially dismisses the claims, but intrigue overcomes and in an attempt to find his occupation, he tries to practice magic...
Bertie Carvel, playing Jonathan Strange, says: “I read the book some years ago and was totally enchanted. I've been casting spells for the part of Strange ever since. It is a considerable surprise to find that some of them worked!”
Nick Marston, CEO of Cuba Pictures, says: “It has been a passion of ours for almost a decade to bring Susanna Clarke’s extraordinary novel to the screen. Now, thanks to the great support of the BBC, it is actually happening. Peter Harness has written a first-rate adaptation, and Toby Haynes is ready to weave his magic from the director’s chair. There is a huge ambition from the whole team to do justice to Susanna’s work and to bring the book to a brand new audience.”
Filming starts next week, and the series will be filmed in Yorkshire, Canada, and Croatia.
Executive producers are Nick Marston, Tally Garner, and Dixie Linder for Cuba Pictures; Justin Thomson-Glover and Patrick Irwin for Far Moor; and Matthew Read for the BBC. Danny Cohen, Director of Television, and Ben Stephenson, Controller of Drama Commissioning, commissioned the series for BBC One.
BREAKING: It’s been a long, hard road out of development hell, and Pinhead isn’t out of the woods just yet.
After years in development, and god awful sequels, Dimension Films is finally embarking on a quest to the seven levels of Hell with Hellraiser creator Clive Barker!
Barker, who hasn’t been involved since Hellbound: Hellraiser II, has officially announced that he will be writing the hellraiser remake for The Weinstein Company – and also revealed that Doug Bradley will return as the iconic slasher!
Halloween has come early!

Now, we have a brand new red band trailer for the indie, which opens day-and-date, in Premiere Cinemas across the country and on VOD October 30th.
“In 2010 “Skinwalker Ranch” gained media attention after experiencing a wide range of unexplained phenomena. Reports ranged from UFO sightings to livestock mutilation, but maybe most notable was the disappearance of ranch owner Hoyt Miller’s eight year old son, Cody on November 11, 2010. Close to a year later, Modern Defense Enterprises (MDE) has sent a team of experts to document and investigates the mysterious occurrences, which only escalate upon their arrival. The incidents become more violent, causing tensions to rise as the team must decide how far they will go to unlock the mysteries of “Skinwalker Ranch.” The group debates whether the answers are worth risking their lives for, or if they should just call off the investigation and leave the ranch – that is, if leaving is actually an option…”
McGinn stars in the film and also makes his directorial debut.

Columbia Pictures and MGM’s new RoboCop is now opening February 12, 2014, a few days later than originally planned. Apparently, it’s the perfect Valentine’s Day movie?
“In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as the title character, Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) as media mogul Pat Novak. Peter Weller played the character in the original and the 1990 sequel.
Mark Hadley’s indie hit, Slender: The Eight Pages, essentially created its own subgenre of horror. After playthroughs and reaction videos claimed the Internet, and specifically YouTube, for a couple months last summer, Slender Man became the go-to mythos in which a bevy of indie developers set their games.
I’ve played a few of them on our YouTube channel, including Haunted Memories, SlenderSpace and The Eight Pages’ “reimagining”, Slender: The Arrival, which will be coming to Steam later this month. Many are obvious copies that don’t add much to Hadley’s formula, but there have also been a few worthy additions to this new subgenre.
Slender: The Nine Pages is more of the former, as you wander about a labyrinthine series of hallways in search of pages — nine this time, in case you didn’t already pick that up — that have been scattered about the environment. Slender Man is behind you, always, biding his time and waiting for you to turn around so he can do what he does best.
You can watch me play The Nine Pages in the video below, but beware, watching it may cause you to lose whatever respect you might have for me. I might get caught by Slendy before my second page — not my proudest moment.
If you’d rather play the game yourself, you can get it here.

A new poster for Eric England's Contracted has hit the interwebs, and it's absolutely NASTY! Look for the film in limited theaters and VOD outlets (including iTunes, Xbox, PlayStation, Amazon Instant Video, GooglePlay, SundanceNow, and more) on November 22 via IFC Midnight.

Ultra-Rare Producer's Cut of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers Screens on 35mm This Saturday at the New Bev
In the Los Angeles area and looking to celebrate the fast approaching Halloween holiday? The New Bev has your weekend plans! Screening for the first time since 1995, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers is ready to bestow the mark of Thorn upon us all!
Crank up Brother Cane and buy a ticket!
Screening Saturday, October 26, at 12 midnight as part of Brian Collins' Horror Movie A Day Series and New Beverly Midnights, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers heads back to the big screen for one night only. This means you get to enjoy the last film in the franchise to actually feel like a Halloween movie (as well as the last film to bother with established lore and continuity), with a great Alan Howarth score, some terrific atmosphere and, of course, a storyline that doesn't exactly add up. But the early presence of Paul Stephen Rudd balances all of that out!
Oh yeah, and this happens to be the ultra-rare, convention bootleg staple version of Halloween 6 known as the Producer's Cut. This is the version that screened for test audiences before Dimension realized they didn't like the more overtly supernatural elements of it and ordered reshoots.
The New Beverly Cinema is located at 7165 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. Tickets are only $8 and can be purchased here. The doors open at 11:59 PM, and the event will feature a Q&A with screenwriter Dan Farrands beforehand. As this movie had a fascinating production history (and turbulent shoot), you should hear some excellent stories.

Both Microsoft and Sony have confirmed their next-gen consoles will support 8-player party chat. The Xbox One’s chat system will be powered by Skype, which Microsoft claims will substantially improve the sound quality and reliability — two improvements the Xbox 360 could benefit from — though it’s a little surprising they aren’t increasing that number over what the Xbox 360 already provides. With games like Battlefield 4, which have multiplayer modes that support dozens of people, I suspect some players wouldn’t mind 10+ player party chat.
As for the PlayStation 4, the eight-player support is something the PS3 does not provide, so it’s a definite improvement. On top of that new feature, Sony has already confirmed that players using a PS4 will be able to chat with Vita users.
