C2E2 2013: More Dark Horse Announcements - Witch Hunt, The Occultist, Itty Bitty Hellboy, Buzzkill, and Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight

Dread Central - Sun, 04/28/2013 - 16:44

Dark Horse Comics closed out the 2013 C2E2 by announcing five more upcoming projects that should be of interest to genre fans, in particular Witch Hunt, The Occultist, and Itty Bitty Hellboy.

Witch Hunt comes to us from Victor Gischler and Juan Ferreyra while The Occultist heralds the return of Tim Seeley. Itty Bitty Hellboy is by Eisner winners Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani, and Donny Cates and Mark Reznicek's Buzzkill promises lots of boozin' and bruisin'. Last but not least, the more perverted among you should enjoy the hell out of Alex de Campi's Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight.

Read on for the details and artwork, and for more info on the 2013 Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), which ran this weekend at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, visit C2E2.com.

From the Dark Horse Press Releases:

WITCH HUNT
From the minds of Victor Gischler (Punisher MAX, X-Men) and Juan Ferreyra (Colder, Rex Mundi) comes a new horror series: Witch Hunt.

“Readers who crave a mix of horror and action will want to pick up Witch Hunt. Juan is going to murder your face with his art,” quipped writer Victor Gischler. “I’m just so thrilled with his work, and Dark Horse is the perfect publisher for this project. So much support and enthusiasm. I can’t thank Dark Horse enough, and I can’t wait for this project to hit shelves!”

Cassian Steele is boss of the werewolf mafia in the Big Easy, and he’s got a problem. The old witch Verona, who knows his secret, has gone into hiding. Cassian wants her dead. So he sends out the word: an open contract. The first monster to dust Verona gets a big payday. Werewolf mobsters, vampire maids, voodoo wizards, zombie ninjas, and even a rogue priest show up to try to collect the bounty. What they don’t realize is that Barnabus Black, a demon desperately trying to regain his halo, is her protection.

“Victor came up with a very interesting story for me to draw. I was able to portray a varied array of weird stuff, which makes the book a really fun ride visually. So if you like werewolves, angels, demons, witches, zombies, ninjas, vampires, etc., you might find something to your liking,” added artist Juan Ferreyra.

Witch Hunt #1 is on sale September 18 in comic shops everywhere!

THE OCCULTIST
Dark Horse Comics is pleased to announce that Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash) is returning with his rare mix of humor and horror in the supernatural superhero series The Occultist. With acclaimed artist Mike Norton (Battlepug, The Answer!) on interior art and cover art by Steve Morris (Serenity, Angel & Faith), The Occultist will return this fall in the follow-up to its hugely successful 2011 miniseries.

When the Sword, a mysterious book of powerful spells, binds itself to him, the fact that Rob’s life has been falling apart doesn’t seem like such a big deal. To survive, Rob must learn to control the book’s unpredictable magic, while his life slips even further out of control... An evil witch doctor wants the Sword to reject Rob, now known as The Occultist, by deciding that he is a bad host in the ongoing war against the realm of the dead. The solution lies in a Catholic schoolgirl who dabbles in death for a quick high.

ITTY BITTY HELLBOY
Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani have created quite a stir with their work on some of the most fun and ageless comics of all time. They won an Eisner for Tiny Titans, their treatment of DC Comics’ Teen Titans, and their recent Kickstarter campaign for their Aw Yeah Comics series surpassed its goal in record time. Now, this dynamic duo takes on Dark Horse’s best-known character, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy, in an all-new comics series, Itty Bitty Hellboy.

A ghost named Rasputin has been spotted. And Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. are going to find out what’s he up to. Who is Hellboy, anyway? Why does he have such a big hand, and what is it used for? Who’s weirder, he or his friends? What is the B.P.R.D.? And what does chicken soup have to do with all of it? All this and more will be answered in the debut issue, where BIG things happen to Itty Bitty Hellboy!

“Itty Bitty HELLBOY! WOW! Such awesomeness! I haven’t screamed so much AW YEAH shout-outs in all my life! It is truly an honor to be the next creative team to add to the HELLBOY saga. I have been a fan of Mike Mignola since Hellboy’s early days at Dark Horse LEGENDS. It’s true. Can’t wait! Itty Bitty has never been so HUGE! AW YEAH HELLBOY!” said Art Baltazar, famous cartoonist.

“We get to work on HELLBOY? HELL YEAH!” exclaimed Franco Aureliani. “One of the most iconic characters in all of comics, and we get to bring our own style and story to it. Truly a dream come true. We’re big fans! Itty Bitty Hellboy is going to be a lot of fun... and we get to actually say HELL(BOY)!”

“Given the recent developments in Hellboy’s life—falling in love, discovering that he’s the rightful king of England, having his heart torn out and dropped into hell—this is clearly the next logical step in his evolution,” said Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

Itty Bitty Hellboy #1 arrives on shelves at your local comic shop on August 28!

BUZZKILL
From the minds of Donny Cates (Hunter Quaid) and Mark Reznicek (percussive force of the Toadies) comes a brand-new superhero series that packs an eighty-proof punch. Dark Horse Comics is thrilled to announce Buzzkill.

Ruben is not your average alcoholic; he’s an unstoppable superhero who derives his powers from imbibing massive amounts of alcohol. After all the disasters it’s caused in his personal life, he’s ready to get clean... and the city’s supervillains couldn’t be happier!

“What I like so much about the book is that while it has these wild superhero trappings, at its core it’s a very sweet and very personal story about the relationship between power and addiction and the very real consequences of both,” states Donny Cates. “It’s something that really interests me, and I think that sometimes we approach issues like these in comics as punch lines. What we’ve really tried to do here is take something really devastating and horrible and examine it through a very familiar terrain. Also, there is a character named Panteradactyl. So there’s that.”

In this wildly gorgeous new four-part miniseries from artist Geoff Shaw (Batman 80-Page Giant) and colorist Lauren Affe, Buzzkill is drunk with power.

“Working on Buzzkill is kinda like hanging out in a bar, drinking beers and doing shots with your buddy, and discussing the weirdest, wildest, most effed-up stuff you can think of to put in a comic. In fact, that’s exactly what it’s like,” says Mark Reznicek. “Donny Cates is the evil genius of comics so it’s a total blast to work with him. If you ever wanted to see what a drunken, superpowered barroom brawl looks like or wondered what would happen to bears in the airless vacuum of space or wanted to see a baboon in a business suit... Buzzkill is the book for you!”

Buzzkill #1 is on sale September 18 in comic shops everywhere!

GRINDHOUSE: DOORS OPEN AT MIDNIGHT
From the floor of C2E2, Dark Horse announces a book that was almost too much for the editorial team. Eisner nominee Alex de Campi (Smoke, Ashes) headlines a B-movie comic masterpiece in Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight. With covers by superstar artists Francesco Francavilla, Dan Panosian, and Coop, this series is excessive, gratuitous, and tasteless—just like you love it.

Literature: overrated. Morality: expendable. Tonight is right for some over-the-top sex and violence. Bringing the flavor of midnight exploitation flicks to comics, Grindhouse delivers four, two-issue gore operas, starting with the Chris Peterson-drawn “Bee Vixens from Mars,” pitting a one-eyed Southern Latina deputy against lusty alien chicks bent on laying eggs in the entire male population.

Future arcs include “Prison Ship Anteres,” featuring art from Simon Fraser (2000 AD); “Bride of Blood,” with art by Federica Manfredi (True Blood, Hack/Slash); and “Flesh Feast of the Devil Doll,” with art by Gary Erskine (The Mask).

“Grindhouse is the comic your mother warned you about. Seriously. You know when grownups told you comics were filthy, immoral trash? They were talking about this comic specifically,” states Alex de Campi. “Books like Grindhouse were the reason the Comics Code was invented. And if you’re in a very conservative or evangelical part of the US, you should be careful where you read it. Each story is two issues of solid gore, gratuitous nudity, and over-the-top badassery. It’s filthy. It’s violent. It’s really, really fun.”

“Bee Vixens” colorist Nolan Woodard added, “You do know I colored 28 Days Later, and this is still way more blood, right?”

Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight #1 is on sale October 2 in comic shops everywhere (where it’s not outlawed)!

Ryuhei Kitamura Talks Versus 2 in 2014

Dread Central - Sun, 04/28/2013 - 15:57

Well, here's some news we weren't expecting this weekend. While on stage yesterday for the Tokyo premiere of No One Lives, director Ryuhei Kitamura made the unexpected announcement that he’ll be making a sequel to his internationally beloved 2000 action/horror film Versus sometime next year.

According to Cinema Today (as translated by Nippon Cinema), Kitamura was talking about how he’ll soon return to working in Asia and mentioned that he’ll be doing a Versus sequel in 2014, confidently adding, “The lead actor [Tak Sakaguchi] is retired, but I’ll get him to make a comeback. He’ll do it if I do it.”

We'll keep our eyes and ears open for updates, but in the meantime here's a reminder of what the original is about:

Synopsis:
There are 666 portals that connect this world to the other side. These are concealed from all human beings. Somewhere in Japan exists the 444th portal.... the Forest of Resurrection.

Deep within the mysterious Forest of Resurrection, the spectacular battle between good and evil has gone on since the dawn of time. When Prisoner KSC2-303 escapes from a maximum security jail, he enters the forest believing it will lead him to a safe haven. His opponent: a mysterious man who seemingly cannot be killed. The battle to be waged between these warriors: Good versus Evil in the pursuit of a beautiful woman who holds the power to grant eternal life. But what Prisoner KSC2-303 cannot remember is whether he is the personification of good or the very essence of darkness.

NBC to Air Remaining Do No Harm Episodes on Saturday Nights Beginning in Late June

Dread Central - Sun, 04/28/2013 - 14:54

Were you among the tiny group who checked out "Do No Harm" before NBC yanked it after just two episodes due to its abysmal ratings? Or maybe you're curious as to exactly how bad it was. Well, you'll all have a chance to watch the remaining eps beginning June 29th.

Per The Futon Critic, NBC will burn off its short-lived drama "Do No Harm" on Saturday nights at 10:00/9:00c commencing on the aforementioned date. We're not sure how many episodes there are exactly, but we should have confirmation from the network shortly as it starts rolling out its summer schedule.

Synopsis:
In “Do No Harm,” Dr. Jason Cole (Steven Pasquale, "Rescue Me") is a highly respected neurosurgeon who has it all – a lucrative career, confident charm, the gift of compassion. But he also has a deep, dark secret. One morning when he wakes up disoriented in a wrecked hotel room amidst several near-naked women he's never seen before, he knows one thing: It's happening again. Every night at the same hour, something inside Jason changes, leaving him almost unrecognizable – seductive, devious, borderline sociopathic.

This new man is his dangerous alternate personality who goes by the name of “Ian Price.” For years he's battled Ian, keeping him in check with a powerful experimental sedative. But now his – their – body has developed a resistance to the serum, setting Ian free once again. And to make matters worse, after being suppressed for so long, Ian's hell-bent on taking revenge on his oppressor. With everyone Jason cares about at risk – patients, friends, co-workers and even the woman he loves – he's got to stop Ian once and for all. Will they find some common ground, or will they bring each other down? Hell hath no fury like an alter ego scorned.

Also starring are Alana De La Garza ("Law & Order"), Michael Esper (A Beautiful Mind), Ruta Gedmintas ("The Borgias"), and Phylicia Rashad ("The Cosby Show"). "Do No Harm" is produced by Universal Television and Traugott Company. The executive producer/writer is David Schulner ("Desperate Housewives," "The Event"). Peter Traugott ("Ringer") and Rachel Kaplan ("Ringer") also are executive producers. Michael Mayer (NBC's "Smash") is the co-executive producer and director.

Ron Perlman Pushing for Third Hellboy Film

Dread Central - Sun, 04/28/2013 - 14:40

It's no secret that fans have been vying for a third Hellboy film for many years now. Apparently we're not alone as Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman, is also looking to don his severed horns yet again.

IGN recently caught up with Perlman, who had this to say of a possible third film: "[Del Toro and I] both walked away from 'Hellboy 2' agreeing that there would never be another one. But, with the passage of time, it became clear to me that he really always designed it as a trilogy. [Guillermo] has a very well-articulated idea of what the resolve would look like, and it's amazingly theatrical and is epic in scope and would make for amazing cinema, with or without the first two movies. I said [to Guillermo], 'You owe it to the world to finish this trilogy,'" Perlman continues. "I've been giving him Jewish guilt."

Stay tuned, kids.

New Wrath of the Crows One-Sheet Shatters

Dread Central - Sat, 04/27/2013 - 20:39

One-sheet numero tres has made its way online for the indie flick Wrath of the Crows, and we have every pixel of it right here for ya! See? No need to get your feathers all ruffled. Dig it!

Coming this fall, the flick stars Tiffany Shepis, Debbie Rochon, Tara Cardinal, and Domiziano Arcangeli. We'll have lots more on this one soon.

Synopsis
In a dirty and narrow jail, Larry (Domiziano Arcangeli), Deborah (Debbie Rochon), Hugo (Brian Fortune), Hernest (John Game), and Liza (Tara Cardinal), the prisoners, are obliged to suffer injustices from the guards and from their chief, the officer. Above all of them is the judge. Nobody ever sees him, but he is the one that sets the rules, and he's feared by inmates and guards alike. The prisoners know how to behave and what are the rules to be respected, but they don't remember anything of their former life outside the walls of the fortress of their prison.

The prisoners' sole memory, slowly emerging during the story, is the Great Evil that led them to the fortress. And the long, long time they have been imprisoned in it. Suddenly a new prisoner makes an out from nothing-like appearance: PRINCESS (Tiffany Shepis). She is a beautiful lady, dressed only in a crow feathers coat, shining and sensual. Her arrival causes curiosity, envy, suspicion, and a deep sexual agitation.

In a very short time Princess reveals her dark and supernatural nature: She can move objects with the power of her mind and is extremely strong. As Liza soon discovers, escape is just a dream for all of the prisoners. The rude nightmarish projected images they can see outside the windows of their cells make them give up thoughts of escape. But you can't escape from yourself or your past.

After execution, Deborah and Liza find themselves disoriented, soulless, and empty in the Lost Souls Prison, where they meet an old blind man named Charlie (Gerry Shanahan), "The Soulkeeper". The souls are dark bodies, sealed into inviolable cells. But Deborah manages to reunite with her soul and then attacks the old man in order to free Liza.

The two of them find an exit, but escape is everything but easy. Soon they realize that the whole fortress, outside and inside, is just a terrifying mirror game where reality is confused with illusion and nightmares become true, throwing the two girls in an endless vortex of terror and madness.

C2E2 2013: Dark Horse Announces Hellboy: The Midnight Circus, Elfquest: The Final Quest, and Powers Figures Line

Dread Central - Sat, 04/27/2013 - 15:14

C2E2 is in full swing, and first out of the gate with big announcements is Dark Horse with three new items on the way, including a re-teaming of Mike Mignola and artist Duncan Fegredo for Hellboy: The Midnight Circus.

The 2013 Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) began yesterday, April 26th, and runs through Sunday, the 28th, in the West Building at McCormick Place located at 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, Illinois. For more info visit C2E2.com.

From the Dark Horse Press Releases:

HELLBOY: THE MIDNIGHT CIRCUS
Following up on a collaboration which spanned multiple series, leading up to Mike Mignola’s return to both writing and drawing his beloved demon, artist Duncan Fegredo returns to tell a story about a young Hellboy’s first brush with hell. In this beautifully drawn fifty-six-page graphic novel, a young Hellboy runs away from the B.P.R.D., only to stumble upon a weird and fantastical circus and the few demons from hell who inhabit it.

“This one owes a lot to Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes (pretty much my favorite circus story of all time), but even more to Pinocchio—especially all the spooky, disturbing bits Disney left out. And the work Duncan is doing here is just flat-out amazing,” said Mike Mignola.

“Growing up is tough enough, even when you don’t know the weight of the world rests on the future of your yet-diminutive shoulders. Mike has woven a tale of coming of age for the young Hellboy made all the more poignant for knowing his future. Wonderful, magical, terrifying, this is epic Hellboy on a smaller stage,” Duncan Fegredo added.

Hellboy: The Midnight Circus arrives in a beautiful hardcover format similar to the previously released Hellboy: House of the Living Dead (created in collaboration with legendary artist Richard Corben in 2011). This new tale arrives on shelves on October 23, carrying a retail price of $14.99.

ELFQUEST: THE FINAL QUEST
For generations, the Wolfriders sought a safe haven. Now, in the Palace of the High Ones, they have found it. But with security, the elves lose the skills that made them superb survivors in a harsh world. Elfquest: The Final Quest poses dire questions: Who stays? Who goes back to the forest? And what grim price will the Wolfriders pay?

“Dark Horse is a company I’ve admired ever since it sprang on the scene in the 1980s. Somehow, as large as they’ve grown, they’ve retained an independent spirit that Richard and I totally identify with. The quality of their offerings is legendary, and I’m extremely happy that Elfquest is part of their lineup,” said Elfquest cocreator Wendy Pini.

“Mike Richardson and Dark Horse come from the same publishing DNA as our own company, Warp Graphics, and he retains that gut-deep love of getting comics out into the world. We’re jazzed at all the plans, both traditional and new, they have for Elfquest,” added Elfquest editor and co-creator Richard Pini.

“I’ve known Richard from our very first year and read Elfquest from its inception. I’ve also pursued him and Wendy for nearly as long as Dark Horse has existed. Elfquest has been a lifetime project for Wendy, and it is one of comics’ great epics. I am extremely proud to bring their wonderful book to Dark Horse and particularly excited to see what is in store for us over the next three years,” Dark Horse President Mike Richardson continued.

In celebration of the thirty-fifth anniversary of Wendy and Richard Pini’s cult comics classic, Dark Horse proudly welcomes the Wolfriders, the Sun Folk, the Gliders, the Go-Backs, and the High Ones to its own rich history. The first release will be the prologue to an all-new fantasy epic, Elfquest: The Final Quest, arriving in the fall of 2013. Following that, Dark Horse will release this new story alongside all-new editions of the previously published material from this best-loved series. Look for more details shortly!

POWERS FIGURES LINE
Dark Horse Deluxe, an imprint of Dark Horse Comics, has licensed rights to create figures based on Powers, a long-running creator-owned series of comics and graphic novels by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Avon Oeming. Projects include a limited-edition statue of Retro Girl, a central figure in the first Powers story arc, and a boxed set of vinyl figures of the series’ ongoing principal characters.

Combining the genres of superhero fantasy, crime noir, and police procedural, Powers follows the lives and cases of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, who are referred to as “powers.”

“We have been very particular about merchandising Powers over the years because I wanted to make sure it was the highest-quality merchandise we could offer,” said Brian Michael Bendis. “I am a giant fan of Dark Horse and the care they give their merchandising. I am very excited about this partnership.”

“We feel that Powers is one of the best graphic-story treatments of the modern era,” Dark Horse Product Development Vice President David Scroggy remarked. “We are delighted to bring these characters forward. Brian Bendis is a master of story construction and dialogue, making him one of today’s most widely read comics writers, and Michael Oeming’s unique art style is one of the most individual in the field. Capturing their creative vision is a challenge we appreciate, and we couldn’t be more excited to work directly with these two talents in making that happen.”

The Retro Girl statue will be sculpted by Tony Cipriano, who has created many popular superhero-themed collectible statues for a variety of companies. Michael Avon Oeming, working in concert with Bendis and Dark Horse, created special art for the statue, which will be used as control art during sculpting. The statue will capture the stylized nature of the graphic art, while anchoring the figure in realism. “To see your work translated into sculpture is always scary, but I’m very excited to be working with the amazing Tony,” Oeming stated.

Dark Horse also plans a boxed set of four- to-five-inch vinyl figures, which will include protagonists Walker and Pilgrim as centerpieces of the ensemble.

Both projects are slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2013. The prototypes will be shown to the trade and the public for the first time as part of the product display in the Dark Horse booth at San Diego Comic-Con in July. Retail prices and edition sizes are to be determined.

B-Sides: Rolling Vengeance Coming Up on You

Dread Central - Sat, 04/27/2013 - 12:00

If you’re going to make a movie about a vigilante seeking Rolling Vengeance against the rednecks that murdered his family and raped his girlfriend by running them over with a custom-built monster truck, you’d better have a hard drinkin’ theme song like “Coming Up on You” to serenade the slaughter.

Rolling Vengeance is like Death Wish except instead of taking out punks with a snub-nosed revolver, the instrument of vengeance is a flame-shooting, drill-mounted, 8-ton monster truck that looks more like something that would have been more at home in a Mad Max movie than your typical monster truck rally.

An odd movie from 1987 in that the crimes committed by the villainous clan of rednecks led by Ned Beatty are rather heinous and treated fairly seriously even as they’re portrayed as dimwitted comedy figures straight out of “The Dukes of Hazzard.” Beatty’s performance could be positively Boss Hogg-ian. That weird dichotomy of serious revenge thriller and bumbling redneck smash & crash humor helps make Rolling Vengeance a cult film just waiting to be rediscovered. Olive Films, Shout Factory, I’m looking at you!

When it comes time for young truck driver Don Michael Paul to scour the local scrap yard for the parts needed to build his Frankenstein’s monster truck, a montage song of sorrowful grit kicks in that sounds like it escaped from the soundtrack of a Reagan era Sylvester Stallone flick. Performed by Anthony Della Reese, who sounds like Bob Seger by way of Glenn Danzig, “Coming Up on You” is the perfect song for the guy stumbling out of a bar at 2AM after having too many beers and having given way too much thought to all the people in the world he feels have wronged him. You feel like you need a shot of whiskey after listening to this song.

To the best of my knowledge “Coming Up on You” has never been released in any form except as the song heard during this montage from Rolling Vengeance. So be it. There are far worse ways for your music to be immortalized. Talk about a monster jam.

Exclusive First Still from Copiii: The 1st Entry; Teaser to Follow Soon

    Dread Central - Sat, 04/27/2013 - 11:30

Last year a director named L. Gustavo Cooper submitted his short film Velvet Road to us for review. Suffice to say he blew our doors off. And now he's sent over the early word on a feature film he has in the works entitled Copiii: The 1st Entry. Fabulous!

Cooper proved to us he's the real deal with Velvet Road (review here), and we can't wait to see what he's got in store for us with Copiii: The 1st Entry. Dig the first still and some poster art Gustavo released to us below, and prepare yourself for the film's teaser trailer, which you will be able to see exclusively here at Dread Central on May 1st.

For more visit the official Copiii: The 1st Entry website and "like" Copiii: The 1st Entry on Facebook.

    Synopsis
From the creators of the award-winning short Velvet Road, Copiii: The 1st Entry is a film based on Romanian folklore that dates back to the 1500s. It was used by parents as a way to keep children from sneaking out or acting up. The story itself is about a gypsy woman named Alina Patkavior, who was the victim of a brutal rape. The act drove her insane, forcing her to attempt to take her own life. When the woman was ready to commit suicide, a vengeance demon appeared. The demon told her that he would wipe away her pain by giving these men the truly horrible fate they deserved. In return, he would return to claim her child after one year. A year later, Alina had grown to love and care for the child. When the vengeance demon returned to claim her child's life, she double-crossed him by refusing to turn the child over. The demon cursed Alina and her people, making it impossible for them to bear children. The group of gypsies came to be known as Copiii Pierdere, meaning 'the loss of a child' or 'lost children' in Romanian.

When Alina's child became a man and married, he wanted desperately to be a father. The man summoned the same demon that his mother betrayed in an attempt to make amends and lift the curse. The demon told him that while he would not lift the curse, there was a way he could still raise children of his own. The only way he or any member of the Copiii Pierdere could have children was to shed blood in the demon's name, in the form of a cursed ritual. This ritual was named Din Burta de Sarpe, Romanian for 'belly of a snake.' The first time the man performed the ritual, he was horrified to find that it drove a loving couple of villagers insane to the point of death, leaving their unborn child unharmed beside their corpses. Disgusted as he was at his own actions, he took the infant and raised it as his own and passed this gruesome act through his family's bloodline. This year will be the 500-year anniversary of the creation of Copiii Pierdere and the Din Burta de Sarpe. Some believe that their power is growing stronger because of this occasion.

Zombies Unleashed With Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising

    Dread Central - Sat, 04/27/2013 - 10:00

Fans can now download the second Uprising DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops II on Xbox Live with the new content arriving on PS3 and PC on May 16th. The DLC features four new multiplayer maps plus the bone-chilling Mob of the Dead map with plenty of zombie action.

    From the Press Release
Beginning 16th May, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC players will have the opportunity to play Uprising, Activision and Treyarch’s second epic DLC Map Pack for the record-breaking Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Uprising. This includes four new multiplayer maps, plus “Mob of the Dead,” a bone-chilling new Zombies experience that takes players to the notorious prison island of Alcatraz. Several of Hollywood’s most iconic actors round out the cast of Prohibition-era mobsters, including Ray Liotta, Michael Madsen, Chazz Palminteri and Joe Pantoliano to bring this horrifying adventure to life.

Following the tradition of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops fan-favorite Zombies mode “Call of the Dead,” Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising’s wildly creative new “Mob of the Dead” Zombies experience puts players on the island of Alcatraz, in the shoes of the four mobsters: Billy Handsome (Liotta), Al “The Weasel” Arlington (Pantoliano), Salvatore “Sal” DeLuca (Palminteri) and Michael “Finn” O’Leary (Madsen). All four are serving time in Alcatraz Prison, only to discover that being behind bars is the least of their problems. In order to survive, players must work their way through the steel cells and ageing concrete buildings while fighting off a multitude of zombified prisoners and guards trapped on the island with them.

Uprising also debuts four new diverse multiplayer maps, each set around the globe:

  • Magma – Set within a modern Japanese village, volcanic eruptions carve multiple paths throughout the town.
  • Encore – Taking place in the aftermath of a deserted London music festival, Encore leaves numerous opportunities for run-and-gun, close quarters combat.
  • Vertigo – A futuristic high-rise mega-structure located in India featuring dizzying vistas and multi-tiered pathways.
  • Studio – A contemporary re-imagining of “Firing Range,” the fan-favorite multiplayer map from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. “Studio” is a Hollywood movie back lot with a variety of cinematic themes that range from Sci-Fi to the Old West.
