NBC has given series orders to "Hannibal," a 13-episode drama from "Pushing Daisies"' Bryan Fuller featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris' novel "Red Dragon," reports THR. "Hannibal," from Gaumont International Television, is described as an hourlong contemporary thriller featuring characters from Harris' best-seller and revolves around FBI agent Will Graham and his mentor, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who are reintroduced as the beginning of their budding relationship. Lecter was made famous in the 1991 The Silence of the Lambs which landed Anthony Hopkins an Oscar. Fuller is also working on the delayed "Mockingbird Lane," a reboot of "The Munsters."
One of the best independent films of the last decade is Eli Roth's Cabin Fever, which ages like fine wine. With a sequel already in the books (Spring Fever was directed by Ti West and released in 2009), The Indomina Group announced back in October that they've landed franchise rights with plans on producing multiple films featuring more skin-rotting terror. The Indomina Group has optioned the rights for two new Cabin Fever installments, which will be Cabin Fever: Patient Zero and Cabin Fever: Outbreak. The films will be shot back to back in the Dominican Republic in early Spring of 2012. Check out the EFM sales art for Patient Zero inside!
We've landed the first real still and EFM sales art for The Thompsons, the sequel to The Hamiltons. The Butcher Brothers return to direct the vampire tale that stars Cory Knauf, Samuel Childs, Joseph McKelheer and Mackenzie Firgens. "In the sequel, a bloodbath at a gas station in the desert puts the family on the run, eventually seeing them resurface in the U.K. under a new identity as The Thompsons. Desperate for protection in this unfamiliar country, the Thompsons seek out the help of a shadowy underground rumored to be sympathetic to vampires." The first film has not aged well, and I'm incredibly skeptical as to why a sequel was ever made. Your thoughts?
Originally scheduled for November, and originally titled Gretl, Witchslayer Gretl is now set to debut on the Syfy Channel February 25th at 9/8C. I'm sure the genesis of the project has nothing to do with the high profile Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters (starring Jeremy Renner) that recently got bumped to next year. There's also Black Forest: Hansel And Gretel & The 420 Witch coming out this year. For my sanity's sake, let's cap it at three for now, okay? In the Syfy version starring Shannen Doherty, "As an adult, a witch hunter (Hansel) returns to the village where he lived as a child to find and kill the witch who killed his sister, Gretl (Doherty), only to find that Gretl is not dead and danger lurks around every corner." John Boylan, Sarain Boylan and Jefferson Brown, round out the cast with Erica Cox, Marianthi Evans, Sophia Ewaniuk, Nahanni Johnstone, and Daniela Lazzaro. Hit the jump to check out the teaser.

Entertainment group Shout! Factory has secured rights to the horrid 3D thriller Sector 7 and action/adventure Quick for all packaged media, home entertainment and digital distribution in the U.S. and Canada, reports Deadline. The deal is part of a multi-year agreement with Korean film and distribution company CJ E&M in which Shout! will be the exclusive North American home entertainment distributor for the two titles. Sector 7 revolves around the crew of an oil prospecting ship that are terrorized by an underwater creature directed by Kim Ji-Hoon. Riffing on Aliens, "The film dates back to 1985 where a worker goes missing at an underwater oil base. It flashes to present day where the protagonist is the daughter of the missing worker, and now working as a marine equipment manager on an old oil prospecting ship called Eclipse. After 3 weeks of preparation the new recruit sinks to the bottom of the sea when the equipment fails. Evidence suggests that it was not an accident and points at one of the crew as a saboteur. Crew members begin to turn up dead - one by one - their bodies viciously mutilated. To make matters worse, the ship is isolated in a typhoon. It is soon revealed that they're all about to become food for a transparent underwater creature."
Essence Atkins (pictured below; Are We There Yet? ) is set to star opposite Marlon Wayans (Scary Movie) in the indie Smart Ass, which Wayans will direct with Mike Tiddes, Variety reports. The pic is described as a spoof of a various found-footage pics like Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside. The first Scary Movie was insanely funny, so maybe these guys can make spoof funny again? Eh? Rick Alvarez and Lisa Blum are producing the pic, which is currently filming in Los Angeles.
Nicolas Cage is very Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D. I know some people take umbrage with some of the man's more eccentric performance choices, but I've never found him less than interesting. It's kind of fascinating how he can oscillate from great, character-based, stuff like Adaptation and Matchstick Men to something "big" like Con Air or Ghost Rider 2. And he certainly brings it big in Ghost Rider 2. "In the successor to the worldwide hit 'Ghost Rider,' Johnny - still struggling with his curse as the devil's bounty hunter - is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when he is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) from the devil (Ciaran Hinds). At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy - and possibly rid himself of his curse forever." I recently had a chance to sit down with Cage in New York for a quick chat covering his new stint as Johnny Blaze, his upcoming thriller with John Cusack The Frozen Ground and what kind of deal he'd make with the devil. As per his reputation, he was a complete gentleman and gave some surprisingly open responses. Ghost Rider 2: Spirit Of Vengeance 3D hits theaters on February 17th. It also stars Ciaran Hinds, Violante Placido, Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth. Hit the jump to check out my interview with Cage as well as a quick few words with Johnny Whitworth, the film's big bad guy.
Imagination Worldwide, who doesn't have much of a "quality" track record when it comes to horror, is at EFM selling Devil Seed (formerly The Darkness), which is directed and co-written by Greg A. Sager, and stars Vanessa Broze, Michelle Argyris, Shantelle Canzanese, Kevin Jake Walker, Wayne Conroy and Michael G. Wilmot. We've landed the bloody sales art and the following plot crunch: "Alexandra is a lively college student returning to live with her roommates, Jessica and Breanne after the summer holidays. After a night of drinking, Alex agrees to a psychic reading to learn about her future with her boyfriend, Brian, but during the reading a dramatic turn of events causes SOMETHING to go drastically wrong. When Alex awakes the next day, she cant remember the events of the night before. She begins to hear creepy noises, hallucinate, black out and receive unidentifiable scratch marks all over her body. Afraid shes going crazy, she seeks help from her friends but Jessica, Breanne and Brian are incapable of comprehending the scope of the darkness descending UPON her. Instead, Alex receives help from a school professor and his father who have dealt with the supernatural before. But as Alexs condition worsens, it becomes apparent that it may already be too late to stop the entity from using Alexs body as a gateway into our world." Check out the trailer inside!
Solaris Filmwerks tipped us to their new horror project, Prosper, which comes from Deronte Smith. "What happens when a few kids in a sleepy suburban neighborhood meet their new neighbor, a seductive Satan worshipping witch with a command over the spirit world? On the night of Winter Solstice six teens will meet to play what they think is a game, or fictitious ritual, with the promise of prosperity in their lives. But when the binding circle is broken, the spirit world runs amuck in the house leaving only one to bear witness to the beginning of the myth the urban legend she lives." April Hollingsworth, Davien Harlis, Nicholas Wolfe, Shayla Love, Anastasia Pekhtereva, Walnette Santiago, Renier Cortes, Samme William, Diva Tyler and Garrick Parks all star. Check out the art inside and more at Facebook.
With the New York Toy Fair winding down we've compiled a few random announcements that slipped through the cracks over the chaotic past few days. Just last week we broke the news about a new Korean anthology entitled Doomsday Book, an omnibus sci-fi project by two helmers that looks to blow all of our friggin' mind some time this year. The brilliant Kim Jee-woon (I Saw the Devil, A Tale of Two Sisters) tells the story of a robot working for a temple who becomes self-aware, while Yim Pil-sung (Hansel & Gretel) follows an innocent young man who becomes a zombie! There's apparently also a tale about a meteor about to crash into Earth. "Two acclaimed Korean directors unfurl three unique stories of human self-destruction in the modern high-tech era. In a hope to restore the humane compassion in the insusceptible modern age, the film displays an alternative form of genuine humanity. And thus you are stepping into the world of future, where a series of unexpected stories awaits you. All these stories originate from the earth. From the very earth you live on." It's visually staggering and looks to be one of the few "must sees" of 2012. Watch the striking trailer inside and then tell us what your thoughts are. Pretty friggin' cool, no?!

TV: Watch Last Night's Episode Of "The Walking Dead", Check Out Photos From Next Week's Installment!
Wow. Last night's episode of "The Walking Dead", "Nebraska", scored some insane numbers! 8.1 Million viewers checked out the initial airing and an additional 2 million tuned in for later broadcasts bringing the tally to a whopping 10.1 million pairs of eyes. "The Walking Dead" is already a ratings behemoth, especially for a cable show, but this shattered its own prior record by a significant margin. The show "tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth." Next week's episode is entitled "Triggerfinger" and airs next Sunday, February 19th at 9/8c. Hit the jump to watch "Nebraska" in its entirety and check out some stills from "Triggerfinger".
Director Blake Reigle (Beneath the Surface) has released his second annual Valentines Day horror short, and this year, he wants you to get "Touched." In the short, "a brash young mans date with his girlfriend takes a dark turn after he breaks the rules and inappropriately touches a diabolical lingerie mannequin. Stepping out of bounds could cost you your relationship or your life!" "Touched" stars Mike Ruston and Tara Holt ("Dollhouse"). In other V-Day news, Cambio, the entertainment destination for teens and young adults, has posted an exclusive original video, "Just Another Valentine's Day Horror Story." "Britney, a beautiful and sweet girl, thinks she is going on a date with a cute young guy named Justin, but his ghoulish looks and zombie-like antics leave her wondering if he is a dead-beat date or just simply dead. Even though Justin shows up looking disheveled and forgets to make reservations, Britney is still touched that at the end of their date he shares that he likes her for her brains. Could it be that Justin is into intelligent girls, or does he just want to eat Britneys brains for a Valentines Day treat?" Watch both shorts by reading on!
