Word has just come to us that actor Tony Goldwyn has joined the cast of Divergent, based on Veronica Roth's young adult trilogy of the same name. Read on for the latest on this new flick from Summit Entertainment.
From the Press Release
Summit Entertainment, a LIONSGATE® (NYSE: LGF) company, announced today that Tony Goldwyn has joined the cast of the studio’s highly anticipated feature film adaptation of DIVERGENT, starring Golden Globe® nominated Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Academy Award® winner Kate Winslet. The film will also feature Ray Stevenson, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen, and Amy Newbold. Currently filming in Chicago, the futuristic action adventure based on author Veronica Roth’s New York Times best seller is being directed by Neil Burger from a script by Vanessa Taylor. The original draft of the script was written by Evan Daugherty. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing the project via their Red Wagon Entertainment banner along with Pouya Shahbazian. Red Wagon’s Rachel Shane is executive producing alongside John J. Kelly. Summit will release the film theatrically in North America in THE HUNGER GAMES slot on Friday, March 21, 2014.
Goldwyn will portray Andrew, Tris’ father, in DIVERGENT. He currently stars as President Fitzgerald Grant on the wildly popular ABC hit "Scandal." His feature acting credits include THE PELICAN BRIEF, KISS THE GIRLS, NIXON, THE SUBSTANCE OF FIRE, THE LAST SAMURAI, and GHOST.
DIVERGENT is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late.
The extremely popular young adult novel Divergent was written by first time author Veronica Roth and has topped the New York Times Best Sellers list ever since being published in May of 2011 by Katherine Tegen Books/HarperCollins Publishers. The book was written by Roth while she was earning her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University. She followed her first novel with the book Insurgent, which has also made its way to the #1 position on specific New York Times Best Sellers lists. To date, book sales are now over 3 million copies for both novels combined, and both titles are HarperCollins' most successful e-books ever in regards to sales. The studio acquired the film rights to the novel in early 2011 several months before the book Divergent was published.
DIVERGENT marks another strategic foray for Summit into producing material for young adults, building on Summit and corporate parent Lionsgate’s leadership in the young-adult genre. Summit’s TWILIGHT SAGA franchise has grossed more than $3.3 billion at the worldwide box office, and the first film of Lionsgate’s THE HUNGER GAMES franchise is the 13th highest-grossing North American release of all time.
Erik Feig, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s President of Production, and Gillian Bohrer, Lionsgate’s SVP of Production, are overseeing the project for the studio.
Okay, kids, on tap for you right now is a much better look at the Oldboy CinemaCon poster as well as a nifty new synopsis. Read on for details and eye candy. Then grab a hammer and start nailing people left and right. Preferably a rubber hammer. We don't want anyone getting hurt.
Starring Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, and Sharlto Copley, Oldboy was directed by Spike Lee from a script by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, The Cell, Thor). The film was produced by Roy Lee, Doug Davison, and Nathan Kahane.
Oldboy is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords' record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma.

Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they're expecting: The original Lords of Salem are returning, and they're out for BLOOD.

The world is 70% water. Think about that. There is absolutely no way to know exactly what kinds of creatures have yet to be discovered. Then again... sometimes it's the things that we do know exist that can be the most deadly.
In pre-production now from director Andrzej Bartkowiak and writer Armand Speca comes Beneath the Deep. Check out a lengthy synopsis and the first artwork below.
The Jack Knife is a ninety-nine-foot long floating resort whose Captain, JACK COOLEY, prides himself on knowing all the best secret spots for diving. His crew consists of his brother BILLY, his first mate TOM, and the beautiful GINA, a talented cook who is putting herself through medical school.
Their latest group of adventurers includes a thrill-seeker named JONAH, twin sisters CHRIS and WYNN, newlyweds SARA and SEAN, and a middle-aged bickering couple named EMMET and JILL. The Jack Knife hits the high seas for three days of exotic dives and three nights of partying. In the middle of a session on the water, a pair of sharks threatens the group. While Tom is able to get the divers safely into the boat, Jack finds himself answering harsh questions from Jill about the safety of his preferred diving spots. Meanwhile, another faction of divers pressures Jack to take them to more adventurous and unseen spots. Jack reassures everyone that they are safe and promises to take everyone to a spot with spectacular wrecks ripe for exploration.
The spot is everything Jack promised and more. Sara and Sean sneak away and find an island, which provides them the privacy they desire. A sudden squall rips through the ocean and sends the boat into a remote cove. The boat capsizes, and all of the food onboard is contaminated in the saltwater. With their communications jammed, Jack tries to figure out how they are going to repair the boat, tend to the injured, and get the hell out of the cove.
Before long, they realize they are not alone.
A massive saltwater crocodile attacks Billy. As Gina tends to his wounds, Jack and Tom try to corral the divers into one location. Gina discovers that Billy’s wound is already infected. Jack, who has some experience with saltwater crocodiles, tells her that the beast’s teeth are toxic.
When the group is again attacked, Jack realizes that there is more than one angry crocodile coming after them. A male and a female, protecting their young.
As the crocodiles begin picking off the vacationers one by one, Jack and his crew must come up with a plan to fight back.
“Beneath the Deep” is a pulse-pounding action-adventure story in the vein of “Jaws” and “Jurassic Park.” Director Andrzej Bartkowiak amps up the tension and thrills, delivering a fast-paced story of survival that is sure to excite audiences all over the world.

Mad Science Films, the Cardiff-based production company behind NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: RESURRECTION and SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT: THE HOMECOMING, are pleased to announce that production is set to begin on their third feature film, KERB CRAWLERS.
KERB CRAWLERS will be the third feature film to be directed by James Plumb, who co-wrote the script with award-winning writer David Melkevik. Cinematography will be handled by Victoria Rodway.
Director James Plumb had the following to say, “I’m absolutely thrilled to finally be working with David Melkevik on a feature film. Reading over the script now, it’s hard to tell which of us wrote which sick joke and which depraved set piece. We’re aiming for this to be the last word in found footage films.”
Based in Cardiff, Mad Science Films' previous productions include ‘Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection’, which will be released on 30 April by Grindstone Entertainment Group & Lionsgate Home Entertainment in the US and on 13 May by 4Digital Media in the UK, and ‘Silent Night, Bloody Night: The Homecoming’, which will be released later this year by Elite Entertainment in the US and 101 Films in the UK.
Principal photography begins on 13 June 2013.
Some footage should not be found... Commissioned to make a depraved snuff movie, five men abduct a young woman to be their plaything for the night. However, once the cameras start rolling, so do heads as they discover their victim belongs to another... something living inside of her... something monstrous. The tables now turned, the men will receive a lesson in true pain and torture as they become the “stars” of the film.
We still have a week and a half to wait for the return of "Supernatural" with Episode 8.20, "Pac-Man Fever," but in the meantime you can take the edge off with a look at this big batch of photos from the ep, which sees the return of Felicia Day.
"Supernatural" Episode 8.20 - "Pac-Man Fever" (airs 4/24/13, 9-10 pm)
DEAN INTRODUCES CHARLIE TO CHEAP PANTSUITS — Concerned about the physical toll the second trial took on Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles) benches his brother from hunting until he heals up. So, when geektastic hacker Charlie (guest star Felicia Day) stumbles upon a case and finds the boys, Dean decides it’s time to teach Charlie how to be a hunter-in-training.
While happy to see “her highness,” the boys suspect Charlie is hiding something: a secret that could get her killed. Robert Singer directed the episode written by Robbie Thompson.
Wondering what the current possibility is that we'll see a sequel to both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later? Director Danny Boyle recently gave the scoop to Wired while doing press for his current film, Trance.
“Who would have thought? I don’t like zombie movies. I never did. We took a genre and fucked with it. Zombie aficionados, they’re quite precious with all their rules. Like with running: “They don’t do that!” Of course there are so many manifestations of zombies now, the rule book has gone out the window. I saw one episode of 'The Walking Dead,' and it was very gripping. But the zombies were stumbling around again, which I hate. Given what we’ve just been talking about, it’s very difficult to know whether zombies are overexposed now as a concept. So it’s 40/60 whether it happens or not. But we did have an idea of where to set it and what it might be about.”
Sounds like it could happen, but we wouldn't hold our breath.

There's nothing like a good old fashioned massacre. The only thing that can make one better is if they're home to young nubile babysitters. Thankfully this new indie slasher entitled Babysitter Massacre has our bases thoroughly covered.
The flick, which is directed by Henrique Couto, stars Marylee Osborn, Erin R. Ryan, Joni Durian, Tara Clark, Stephanie Michael, Mike Canestaro, Stephanie Coffey, and Alicia Lozier.
Babysitter Massacre is described as a throwback to the classic slasher films of the 70s and 80s but with a modern gritty torture element.
In Ray Falls, Ohio, on Halloween night, someone is torturing and killing young women one by one. The only thing they all have in common is they belonged to the same babysitter club in high school... Who could be doing this, and can anyone stop them?
Though the video itself slipped through the cracks when it first aired, if you're looking for a quick glimpse at the new film from Larry Fessenden entitled Beneath, you'll find it at the end. Be patient and check it out!
As reported earlier, newcomer Daniel Zovatto has booked the lead in Glass Eye Pictures' indie Beneath, which genre veteran Larry Fessenden (Wendigo) is directing.
The story follows six kids who find themselves stuck out on a lake in a rowboat being attacked by a ferocious, man-eating fish. Production is currently under way in Connecticut. Look for more on this one really soon!
Since we like to keep in the loop on all thing indie horror, Dread Central recently heard from up-and-coming filmmaker Lee Vervoort (Gun Town), who shared with us that his next project, The Truck, is currently in production in Kentucky.

Along the way they encounter an old beat-up four-wheel drive truck that adds miles of terror to their trip. Is there anyone behind the wheel? Or is it driven by pure evil?
