B-Sides: Lair of D'Ampton Worm

Sat, 04/06/2013 - 10:45

This weekend’s B-Sides is without question the peppiest song and dance number ever put to music or film about a monstrous, man-eating worm. If you’ve never seen The Lair of the White Worm, then you’re in for a fun treat because both the song and the British hoedown scene in which it plays are a gas.

Before he made a name for himself as a romantic leading man starring in Four Weddings and a Funeral and then nearly destroying that box office fortune by getting busted having sex with a street hooker nicknamed “Pancake”, Hugh Grant starred in Ken Russell’s trippy 1988 big screen version of Dracula author Bram Stoker’s lesser known 1911 novel The Lair of the White Worm. The title refers to the legendary “D’Ampton worm”, a gigantic serpentine creature legend claims lives in the caverns beneath manor lord Grant’s estate. Grant and the future Mrs. Casper Van Dien, Catherine Oxenberg, will soon find themselves contending with this monstrous white worm and a seductive serpentine vampire lady.

But first, they dance!

Emilio Perez Machado and Stephen Powys perform the song; a take-off of “The Lampton Worm”, an actual Northeastern England folk song, which itself was the inspiration for Stoker’s novel. See how it all comes back around?

When Special Agent Kevin Dickey, the FBI agent assigned to wrap up the case of the newly deceased Judas Killer, shows up at June’s door, he brings with him some terrifying news – there is a Judas copycat killer on the loose in her neighborhood! In the course of his investigation, Dickey shows June a picture of the copycat killer’s victim, and she is stunned to see that it’s the same woman she saw brutally murdered in her nightmares.

A series of hauntings begin to torment June, growing in frequency and ferocity over time. Now, not only does she see murder victims, but her dreams put her in the role of the murderer. June fears that the spirit of the Judas Killer is the architect of some greater plan in which she must now play a part. June struggles to maintain her grip on sanity as she plunges into her own investigation of these events. No matter the result, the truth will be horrifying - either there is true evil inside of her, or someone, or something, is determined to destroy her… IT’S NOT OVER.

Susan Sarandon Hears The Calling of a Serial Killer

Fri, 04/05/2013 - 20:01

Yes, in some theatres right now a movie called The Call is currently playing, but that's not stopping the makers of the indie thriller The Calling from using a similar title.

In The Calling, which we expect to be renamed The Hive shortly, Susan Sarandon will play a small-town Canadian detective who tracks down a serial killer targeting the terminally ill to use as disciples in his own planned resurrection. Topher Grace will also star as an ambitious police officer recently transferred from Toronto who becomes the detective’s right-hand man.

The Calling was written by Scott Abramovitch and will be directed by Jason Stone, with production getting under way this week. Christine Vachon, Killer Films, and Randy Manis are producing.

Scary Movie 5 Trolls Evil Dead

Fri, 04/05/2013 - 19:51

In Hollywood nothing is over until it's over, and that's apparently very true for Scary Movie 5, which went before cameras once more as a means to get in a quick Evil Dead gag. You mad, bro? LOLZ.

Malcolm Lee directed Scary Movie 5 from a script penned by David Zucker. It stars Ashley Tisdale, Erica Ash, Heather Locklear, Terry Crews, Jerry O'Connell, Kate Walsh, and Jasmine Guy. The plot involves three dancers — one veteran performer and two upstarts who are also best friends — who vie for the lead in a new production from a snooty, aloof, imperious, and oversexed director. It spoofs Black Swan, Paranormal Activity, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, 127 Hours, and lots more.

Look for it in theatres on April 12th.

Check out the official Scary Movie 5 website here!

Synopsis
The latest installment of the SCARY MOVIE franchise includes send ups of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, MAMA, SINISTER, THE EVIL DEAD, INCEPTION, BLACK SWAN and pop culture featuring Ashley Tisdale, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, Katt Williams, Molly Shannon, Terry Crews, Simon Rex, Jerry O'Connell, Sarah Hyland, Katrina Bowden, Tyler Posey, Shad Moss aka Bow Wow, Kate Walsh, Heather Locklear, Mac Miller and Mike Tyson.

SCARY MOVIE V is directed by Malcolm Lee, who teamed up and worked side by side with legendary comedy director David Zucker (AIRPLANE, THE NAKED GUN franchises). Zucker wrote and directed SCARY MOVIE 3 and 4 and also co-wrote and produced SCARY MOVIE V.

The SCARY MOVIE franchise, which lampoons the greatest in horror and genre fare, has grossed over $800 million worldwide.

Per Deadline, Fox 2000 has acquired film rights to Sally Green’s debut book, Half Bad, a contemporary supernatural thriller that will be published under the Penguin imprint in spring 2014. It deals with two factions of witches, one good and the other evil (of course), which are divided by hatred but united by one thing — fear of a boy descended from both sides.

The adaptation will be produced by Karen Rosenfelt, whose recent films include The Twilight Saga, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and The Book Thief.

Guillermo del Toro Talks Pacific Rim 2 and Possible Godzilla Crossover Film

Fri, 04/05/2013 - 18:04

Please forgive me if there are any typos here on display as it's kind of hard to type over the height of my Nerd Boner of Possibility™. That being said... think about this... Pacific Rim and Godzilla are both properties of Legendary Pictures. Both feature giant monsters. What if....

What would happen if these two enormous worlds collided? Appropriately enough Collider asked the magic question... Could it happen?

"So far with the sequel, what we’re writing, what we’re creating, is very different, so there are no plans," says Del Toro. However, "hypothetically, I would love the fuck out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain. But I don’t think there are plans on that. I don’t even know what direction they’re taking Godzilla in. I know somewhat that it’s grounded differently. Pacific Rim, my aspiration was, the color, the saturation of color, was almost an acid-drip version of the Heavy Metal coloring that I loved when Richard Corben was working there, when [Jean-Claude] Forest was working there. Super bright, super saturated, the crazy color and aesthetic. And Godzilla is more realistic, somewhat. That’s my thinking. That’s what I’ve heard. I don’t even know which way they’re going."

Dudes, could you just imagine?

Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow (Donald Sutherland) prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is directed by Francis Lawrence and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Syfy Calls in an Exit

Wed, 04/03/2013 - 18:19

And the search for an ongoing reality show with legs and staying power continues for the Syfy Channel. After the abysmal "Ghost Mine" lord knows they could use something with a bit more bite. Speaking of which...

According to Deadline the channel that rubber monsters and bad CGI built is expanding its reality competition slate with "Exit," based on the Nippon Television Network’s Japanese series "Dero!"

The six-episode series hosted by Curt Doussett is set to premiere on Tuesday, June 4th, at 10 PM. In each episode four teams of two contestants will battle to escape a series of four mind-bending and seemingly diabolical rooms, each more challenging than the last. The winning team must beat the clock while solving rapid-fire brain games and navigating a bevy of terrifyingly entertaining puzzles in order to be the only team to truly exit and win the $10,000 prize.

Will we deserve a prize just for sitting through this? I guess we'll find out in June.

American Psychos Huey Lewis and Weird Al Yankovic Strike Back

Wed, 04/03/2013 - 17:12

It's amazing how much American Psycho still resonates with fans. Even though the film was only about 60% as nutty and gory as the original novel, it's Christian Bale's insanely gleeful performance that really puts this one over-the-top.

Recently website Funny or Die decided to pay a bit of an homage to the film and who better to do the roasting than Huey Lewis and Weird Al Yankovic? Patrick Bateman and author Bret Easton Ellis should be pleased. As for us? We give this video two habit trails stuffed lovingly up someone's anus. Check it out for yourselves and spread it around, man. It's just one of those things that NEED to be seen!
