[Random Cool] Bassist Does Amazing Cover Of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt"

Fri, 02/21/2014 - 09:00

Bassist Zander Zon has posted an incredible solo bass cover of Nine Inch Nails‘ classic track “Hurt”. While the title says that it’s a cover of NIN’s, I personally think it sounds more like a cover of Johnny Cash‘s 2002 cover. So, it’s a cover of a cover. We’re definitely going deeper here.

Back to the topic at hand, Zon does an amazing job of covering “Hurt”, each section he does something new and exciting so as to keep the interest of the listener and viewer. It’s well worth a few minutes, so get down there and click on that ‘Play’ button!

'The Raid' Remake Is Happening With...

Thu, 02/20/2014 - 19:13

One of the greatest action franchises ever is Gareth Edwards’ The Raid. And even though the two films create a masterpiece of fist-fights, people outside of hardcore fans and festival peeps don’t know much about it. Thus, a remake will happen.

Announced after the first Indonesian Raid was acquired by Sony, today TheWrap reports that Screen Gems has hired a director – and has their eyes on their leads.

The Expendables 3‘s Patrick Hughes is in negotiations to direct The Raid remake for Screen Gems and XYZ films. Brad Inglesby (Out of the Furnace) wrote the script.

Casting has yet to begin but the Hemsworth brothers -Liam, Chris and Luke – have been mentioned as possible targets for the hard-hitting action movie!

The original Raid followed an Indonesian S.W.A.T. team tasked with storming a building where a violent gangster and his thugs reign over innocent residents. One young cop has a mission of his own – to rescue his drug-dealing brother from the chaos inside.

XYZ Films will produce with Gareth Huw Evans, who directed The Raid and its ambitious sequel The Raid 2, which hits theaters in March.

Kurt Russell Has A Great Perspective on Remaking Movies...

Wed, 02/19/2014 - 09:53

With an Escape from New York remake still in development hell, Kurt Russell, who starred as the iconic Snake Plissken in John Carpenter’s 1981 thriller, talked to IGN about his thoughts on remaking the film – and remaking movies in general.

There’s nothing wrong with the concept of doing something,” Russell told the site of the proposed Escape from New York reboot. “I just think that my only thing about that is, when I think of remakes — and I’ve done remakes that I didn’t think should have been done — I only think remakes make sense if you take an idea that was flawed, a script that was flawed, perhaps they didn’t have enough money to make it correctly, maybe a character or two was not particularly well-played or could be fixed. If it had a problem that you’d say, ‘God, if you just do that, that’s a great movie,’ or, ‘If that movie had so-and-so in it, it could be great! Imagine that with so-and-so in it. Imagine that done this way.’ Then that to me makes perfect sense as to why they would do a remake.

He really hits the nail on the head, although I think taking a great film and letting the director do his own thing (i.e. Dawn of the Dead) is another great way to approach remaking a classic.

As for Russell appearing in the New York reboot as Snake, he doubts that will happen:

He’s a great character. But no, I’m too old. Snake’s a man in his prime. He’s an American man absolutely in his prime. He’s a really good character.

It would be nice at least see him cameo.

"The Walking Dead" Team Come Up for 'Air'

Wed, 02/19/2014 - 09:43

“The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman is producing Air, a sci fi thriller to which Norman Reedus, pictured, one of the breakout actors on “Walking Dead,” and Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator, Constantine) have signed on to topline, writes THR.

Christian Cantamessa, who co-wrote and was lead designer for games such as “Red Dead Redemption” and “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas”(!), wrote the script with Chris Pasetto and will make his feature directorial debut with the low-budget pic!

The story is set in an underground cryogenic facility after a nuclear fallout renders the atmosphere unbreathable. Air centers on its two custodial workers (Reedus, Hounsou), who take care of the cryogenically sleeping personnel that are to re-establish society, but they struggle to preserve their own sanity and lives while maintaining the extremely fragile environment of the last livable place on earth.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions is already in final negotiations to acquire the project.

Is 'The Raid 2' One of the Greatest Action Movies Ever? Poster Says So...

Wed, 02/19/2014 - 09:30

One of the greatest action movies ever is Gareth Evans’ The Raid, which begs the question, is the sequel even better?!

Being released March 28 by Sony Classics, below you’ll find a brand new poster for the film Collider dubs “one of the greatest action movies ever.” Ryan Daley absolutely loved it, so maybe we should be awfully excited, no?

Iko Uwais (The Raid), Julie Estelle (Macabre), Alex Abbad (Merantau), Marsha Timothy (The Forbidden Door), Mathias Muchus, Tio Pakusadewo, and Cecep Arif Rahman star.

He thought it was over. After fighting his way out of a building filled with gangsters and madmen – a fight that left the bodies of police and gangsters alike piled in the halls – rookie Jakarta cop Rama thought it was done and he could resume a normal life. He couldn’t have been more wrong.

Formidable though they may have been, Rama’s opponents in that fateful building were nothing more than small fish swimming in a pond much larger than he ever dreamed possible. And his triumph over the small fry has attracted the attention of the predators farther up the food chain. His family at risk, Rama has only one choice to protect his infant son and wife: He must go undercover to enter the criminal underworld himself and climb through the hierarchy of competing forces until it leads him to the corrupt politicians and police pulling the strings at the top of the heap.

And so Rama begins a new odyssey of violence, a journey that will force him to set aside his own life and history and take on a new identity as the violent offender “Yuda.” In prison he must gain the confidence of Uco – the son of a prominent gang kingpin – to join the gang himself, laying his own life on the line in a desperate all-or-nothing gambit to bring the whole rotten enterprise to an end.

Full Trailer For 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Kicks Your Face With Awesomeness

Wed, 02/19/2014 - 03:25

Marvel unveiled the full-length trailer for their latest hero flick, Guardians of the Galaxy, coming at you from Slither and Super director, James Gunn. I had my reservations when the project was first announced, but thanks to some great casting and what looks to be a solid script, I could not be more stoked for this galaxy epic. It may give Joss Whedon and the Avengers a run for their money.

For those not familiar with the source materials, films follows Peter Quill AKA Starlord, who becomes the target of bounty hunters after stealing a mysterious orb. He teams up with a bunch of criminal misfits from the deepest depths of the galaxy to save… the galaxy. Guardians stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Benicio Del Toro, and Vin Diesel. The flick is set to hit theaters August 1.

Animals As Leaders Are Coming At You With Every "Tooth And Claw"

Tue, 02/18/2014 - 22:44

Instrumental progressive metal group Animals As Leaders has released a brand new song entitled “Tooth And Claw”, which comes from their upcoming album The Joy Of Motion (out March 25th via Sumerian Records). The song is, as per AAL norm, a complete mind f*ck in terms of the structure, composition, and technical aspect. Seriously, the amount of skill in 10 seconds of any AAL song is more than most bands use in an entire album. Give it a listen below!

You can travel back in time to watch an exclusive interview we conducted with guitarist Tosin Abasi in 2011 right here.

This Will Put Your 'Silent Hill' Collection To Shame

Tue, 02/18/2014 - 20:43

I wish it weren’t true, but I’ve never been much of a collector. I’ve dabbled, but none of my attempts have lasted long enough to result in anything I’d be proud to show off. This particular collection, which consists of all things Silent Hill — from the games to the movies, merchandise, miscellaneous other collectibles, and seemingly everything in-between — took Whitney Chavis, owner of the fan site Silent Hill Historical Society, 14 years to accumulate.

This is by far the most impressive collection dedicated to a single game, Silent Hill or otherwise, that I have ever seen. If you have a collection of your own, prepare to feel a lot less proud of it.

If you’re a collector, feel free to share what you collect in the comments below. Unless it’s human remains — you probably shouldn’t share that. For those of you who would like to know exactly what’s in this collection, you can get details on its contents here.

Feel free to send Adam an email or follow him on Twitter:
