Josh Stewart Becomes ‘The Hunted’ On Home Video

Mon, 08/25/2014 - 15:16

Be careful what you hunt.

Arriving on DVD and VOD September 9, 2014 from writer-director-actor Josh Stewart and the procures of The Collector is The Hunted. Extra features include Audio commentary with Josh Stewart and Producers, and “The True Story” Featurette .

“The Hunted follows family-man, hunter, Jake, played by Josh Stewart, alongside his best friend Stevie (Ronnie Gene Blevins) as they journey deep into the Appalachians of West Virginia on the hunt for a legendary buck. Chasing their dream of landing a television hunting show, the duo head into the dense, secluded mountains armed with only their bows and camera equipment. The friends quickly realize there is something else that stirs within the woods. Something that, turn by turn, begins to hunt them…”

Written, directed and starring Stewart, The Hunted was inspired by the actor’s desire to spark his creativity and bring home his talent after spending months on the high-budget set of The Dark Knight Rises. Growing up in rural West Virginia, Stewart spent much of his youth fly-fishing and hunting in the sprawling woods where the film is set. An outdoorsman at heart, the first-time director made every effort to ensure the film would feel as authentic as possible to fellow hunters. Everything from the equipment, apparel and even safety measures were true to form – a quality only found on hunting shows, not in fictional work.

The ‘Silent Hills’ Demo Gets the Narrator it Deserves

Mon, 08/25/2014 - 15:12

Since its debut last week, folks can’t seem to get enough of Silent Hills. For me, it signals a potential renaissance for AAA survival horror, which — thanks to games like this, The Evil Within, Alien: Isolation, and (potentially) Resident Evil — is showing signs of returning to the glorious years of the early 2000s. Indie horror is flourishing, and it looks like that’s benefiting the AAA space as well as more game makers are realizing there’s an audience out there for more visceral scares.

For others, the demo is something to be picked apart and examined. It’s already inspired a torrent of reaction videos and fan theories as we try to mine the limited information available for any new details. Even the demo’s supporting cast, a sink-dwelling aborted baby creature, is real now.

Continuing this trend is an unexpected mash-up that uses the Silent Hills teaser’s first person perspective and injects it with some of The Stanley Parable.

If you haven’t played The Stanley Parable, it’s a little hard to explain it in a way that does it justice. On the surface, it’s a very simplistic first person story-driven game where your every action and decision is commented on by a narrator — voiced by the lovely Kevan Brighting. It’s also an incredibly effective and often hilarious parody of modern video game design. If you’d like to check it out, you can grab the game for $15 on Steam.

‘Out of the Dark’ Confronts Haunting Family Secret (First Look)

Mon, 08/25/2014 - 15:10

Vertical Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to Participant Media’s supernatural thriller Out of the Dark, and slated the film for an early 2015 theatrical release, sources tell Bloody Disgusting.

Starring “Dexter’s” Julia Stiles, Underworld‘s Scott Speedman, and Stephen Rea, Out of the Dark is a ghost story set in South America, where a young family’s new life turns from promising to terrifying when they are forced to confront ancient legends, ghosts, and a haunting family secret.

Out of the Dark will be presented by Vertical in association with Participant Media and Image Nation.

Sarah Harriman’s (Stiles) family has relocated from London to a small town in Colombia to take over her father’s business. Moving into a beautiful old home and having her father nearby, their new life in Santa Clara seems like a promising place to raise their young daughter Hannah. But Sarah and her husband, Paul (Speedman), soon learn of an ancient legend that haunts the town and has created a culture where ghosts have become the answer to anything that goes wrong.

As they settle into their new surroundings Hannah begins to act strangely, wandering off into the jungle as if following something, and suddenly falls ill. When Sarah and Paul begin to see disfigured ghost-like creatures around the house Hannah disappears, sending them on a frantic search to find her. As they delve deeper into the town’s superstitions they discover a shocking secret about their family and must uncover the truth in order to save their daughter.
