Finally! Someone else who likes this movie! LOL. I had such fun with this flick, and it was such a surprise. I'd expected crappy Sci-Fy channel mess, and got a thoughtful, hysterically funny, well-acted, and really well made modern monster classic instead. This is one I'd really love to see get a wider audience as it truly deserves it.

  • Dracula - Blu-ray   1 day 18 hours ago

Blu-ray is supposed to make things look BETTER, damnit! With FFC's tinkering, this HD version looks pretty bad, and, in hindsight, a lot worse than I make it sound here. I actually do enjoy the flick as pure, trashy entertainment, and I hope a proper Blu-ray (without the director making a mess of things just because he's given the opportunity to) comes out eventually.

  • Dracula - Blu-ray   1 day 18 hours ago

Yes, I do agree there were some strange casting decisions made for this film but I still like it.  I enjoy the story and the the feel of the film, as well as the music.  I've always loved the story of Dracula and was quite surprised when I read "Dracula The Un-dead, the sequel to the orginal.  I don't know how a book can be so bad and so good at the same time.  Dacre Stoker has changed the Dracula we have all known and loved for years into a somewhat soft hero.  I'm not sure how I feel about this.  I think I prefer my dracula as a villain.  Anyway, interested in what anybody else thought of this book!!!!!!!

  • Private Parts   2 days 1 hour ago

I liked Eating Raoul, but I think this is the better film simply because it's such an oddity in the genre it's been lumped into. It was marketed as a horror flick, but it's more of a darkly comic psychosexual thriller, with some wickedly perverse subtext. I love this movie. This was one of those old reviews that I found kicking around while repairing dead links today, and just had to throw it up there as I know so few have actually seen it!

  • Private Parts   2 days 3 hours ago

Have never watched this or Eating Raoul (which is probably in the top ten list of movies that people say, "Suicide Blonde, I can't believe YOU haven't seen that."). I'll have to remedy that.

  • Heat Wave   2 days 4 hours ago

Most of the signings were in the Los Angeles area, as I recall, but I'll keep my ear to the ground for anything in your neck of the woods.

In the meantime, check this out: http://kellycozy.blogspot.com/2009/07/comic-con-day-4-too-tired-to-think-of.html

  • Abominable   2 days 5 hours ago

This is one of the hidden gems that straight-to-video can surprise you with. The acting is generally quite good, the monster looks pretty decent (it is what it is). The story is a nice compination of ideas: Rear Window meets a monster movie. The film makers pull it off rather well. Scary, no. Entertaining, yes.

  • Heat Wave   3 days 5 hours ago

OMG! Keep me posted for DC area! I would totally take my copy to get signed! I love Nathan Fillion. As a beta male, he is just totally rocking that type of character. Of course, that could be good casting all the way around. I'll probably get Naked Heat too. Fast reads, and if they stay true to the characters in the series, then, hey, I'll collect them.

  • Heat Wave   3 days 5 hours ago

If they put a little more effort into the next book - yes, according to Amazon, "Naked Heat" by Richard Castle is supposed to be out in September. Hopefully just in time for season 3 to start (crossing fingers for renewal).
Incidentally, Fillion and some of the other cast members have done signings of Heat Wave. Keeping my eyes open for one in my vicinity.

  • Dunwich Horror, The   3 days 14 hours ago

Such a great review.  I now know whether I would want to see the movie or not (I'm thinking not at this point).

  • Storm of the Century   3 days 14 hours ago

so yes RIP in Corey..may you slay vampires and werewolves in the afterlife!

  • Storm of the Century   3 days 17 hours ago

     RIP Corey Haim...RIP

  • Storm of the Century   3 days 17 hours ago

since they found Corey Haim dead today...so you don't have to worry!  "Accidental overdose."

  • Heat Wave   4 days 6 hours ago

I have to agree about the fluff part. I was kinda of hoping the book would be deeper than the show, but found I'm a lot MORE impressed with the show. On the plus side, the characters do shine through and remain true to the TV characters.
I do think it's a clever marketing technique too ;)

  • Club Dread   6 days 3 hours ago

This film is a great parody that marries sex, comedy and horror...not necessarily in equal parts. Brittany Daniel is physical perfection.  The Broken Lizard boys are hilarious.  I mean, come on, Putnam trying to fend off the killer with his tennis serve?  Priceless.

This is another film where the DVD extras reveal all the right moves by the editing staff and post production.  I look forward to more debauchery from the comedy troupe that brought us Beer Fest and Super Troopers!

  • Chronicles of Riddick, The   6 days 3 hours ago

The Chronicles of Riddick was the worst combination viewers could aim for.  It wasn't a great standalone film, and it needed too much knowledge of Pitch Black for fans to truly enjoy the movie.

Here's hoping the third installment makes up for this one.

  • Audition (Blu-ray)   6 days 4 hours ago

The Wikipedia has become the Internet source for information.  If I had my way, anyone doing a search on the phrase "WTF?" would immediately be forced to watch "The Audition."

This is a bizarre film, and one that challenges so many ideals.  The film sets viewers up for an expected story, only to take a hard turn at the hour mark and send them tumbling into uncertainty and chaos for the remainder of the film.

I love it for the sheer fact that it can't be explained easily, or comfortably.

  • Aoen Flux   6 days 4 hours ago

I was willing to try and give this film the benefit of the doubt for the first two acts.  When the finale' switched to complete darkness, I understood the director's decision, but I disagreed with it.  A final confrontation in absolute darkness would be lost on 99% of viewers.
It was lost on me too.  I lost faith in the film adaptation, despite liking the British anime shorts from years before.
Theron is a great actress.  This one just misses a little too much for my tastes.

  • Sin City (Blu-ray)   6 days 4 hours ago

Frank Miller's graphic novel was unique and could never be duplicated...
    ...unless you're Robert Rodriguez.

This film is a game-changer in terms of visual effects and the marriage of gritty comics and Hollywood. Spider Man was watching a family-friendly comic on the big screen.  Sin City is watching adult material emerge from the printed page to the world of video.

Of all the stand out performances, Rourke deserves kudos for his tough-as-nails performance. Hauer has a small role, but he shows an understanding of the material, and fills his character with an emotional range.
Sin City is chock full of delicious sexuality and violence. Not all of them are comfortable, but, for the right audience, they're all entertaining.

  • Session 9   6 days 4 hours ago

     Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  • Hancock (Blu-ray)   6 days 4 hours ago

I'm actually really looking forward to the sequel. It's a pretty dark flick, and, save for a few laugh-out-loud bits, one of the most "serious" super hero flicks released in the last few years. Personally, I liked this better than the last Spider-Man and X-Men flicks, and liked it WAY more than Watchmen! LOL. Loved that graphic novel, but, man-oh-man, Snyder's movie was a snoozer.

  • Shaun of the Dead   6 days 4 hours ago

This is probably the first step in Pegg's undeniable rise to fame.  "Hot Fuzz" was just as well done.  Then, to see Pegg show up in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" was an absolute delight.
Shaun of the Dead should be the research material in scriptwriting classes.  The movie has it all; callback jokes, puns, visual gags and jokes that insight belly laughs.  The film has some great moments, made even greater by fans of horror genre classics.  It's a must see.

  • Session 9   6 days 4 hours ago

I am not a David Caruso fan by any stretch of the imagination, and I loved him in this film.

Session 9 is a great build-up, and the DVD extras prove that the right decisions were made by the editing and post-pro process.

  • Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Blu-ray)   6 days 4 hours ago

This family-friendly twist soured me on the story arc of the Hellboy Franchise.  It was still a beautiful movie, and  Goss was brilliant, but I thought the shift from the first to second movie was too light.  The acting was solid.  The visuals were a head trip, but after the original, and films like The Orphanage and Pan's Labyrinth, this one was a bit too Disney for me.

  • Hard Candy   6 days 4 hours ago

This is a movie to watch only if the viewer is ready to be very, very uncomfortable. (see Exhibit A: "The Audition").

Page is brilliant, and Wilson isn't far behind.  The story never allows viewers to find a comfortable spot to anchor to, just several twists that leave viewers in a constant free fall.

With a great pay off pitch.
