LOL. You obviously don't share my Catholic guilt!!!
I actually prefer the ending where the cops shoot her. She kills her boyfriend offscreen, and we then see her rocking back and forth in front of her bed while the camera fast-forwards a few days. It stops for a minute and we hear one of their friends (her sister?) enter the house, she screams, and then, a few minutes later, the cops arrive and blast her to hell when she charges at them. If you pay close attention, you see the light in the closet at the far end of the hall go on and off, as if to suggest that the demon is moving on - job well done. LOL.
The theatrical ending is balls. A pile of sweaty balls.
Paranormal Activity was ok, can't say I found it scary (Actually found Drag Me To Hell scarier - and sillier!). I agree with the absurdity of the behaviour of the characters, but I'm very impressed with the mini budget!
**SPOILER ALERT**
I have to admit the ending(s) disappointed me somewhat, but I'm not sure what I would have liked better. Part of me wanted it to end once they both walked down the hallway into the darkness and the camera keeps on recording an empty room, maybe with a closing note to say neither of them were seen again. But that's a little too much Blair Witch possibly?
Yeah, the little faith I have in mankind was severely shaken by the box office of this flick compared to "Vampire's Suck". What the hell? Then again, "The Big Leibowski" did even worse when it came to theaters and look what it became. I suspect the same will happen for Mr. Pilgrim.
Enjoy yourself in two days. I have a feeling that won't be too difficult for you. :-)
I'm so jealous, I've been waiting for this film for ages, having eagerly devoured the books & every single one of Edgar Wright's picture-a-day for last year on his blog. And then the US go & get it released before the UK, even though no-one seems to care. :( The relative box office performances of this & 'Vampires Suck' is very depressing. I suspect it will find an audience when it comes out on disc.
Only two days to go till the UK release - I've not been this excited about a film for ages!
What's wrong with playing bass with a pick? Roger Waters played bass with a pick (at least in Live at Pompeii) and he... ah... well, maybe you have a point.
I love the commentary track on this release. Kevin Smith is such a comic guy, and Kelly never realizes what a great comic film he's written. The soundtrack kicks total ass.
Good piece of trivia: Seth Rogan is in this flick as one of the bullies.
I heard somewhere that the song Little Pete plays that gets him fame and fortune was supposed to be "Candy's Room" by Bruce Springsteen. I have no opinion on that (not much of a Springsteen fan). I haven't seen this since I was a kid - I had no idea what those little white packets Pete was tossing out were! I should give it a rewatch, once I can forgive Bakshi for Wizards. Good review!
For the look on her face when she's robbing the cradle. Trust me, you'll know. She's still as beautiful as she always was, but like I said, it blows my mind how good of an actress she has become. Cause I certainly don't remember her being one early on. Lord of Illusions? Sorry, but she sucked. Banging Scott Bakula on-screen does not make you talented. But in this flick? She's on fire. And it's not the second coming or anything, but it's just a well-done, well-executed ghost story. PLUS it kills (who I have learned) a cast member of Gossip Girl. So it's got that going for it.
But, seeing as it's from The Asylum, I ignored 'em! LOL. I've never seen a quality flick from these guys (they tend to put out well-timed cheapie "homage" flicks, like their horrendous version of War of the Worlds with C. Thomas Howell). However, reading A.J.'s review has my curiosity piqued! And I freakin' LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Famke Janssen, so there's that, too....
I just got this thru Netflix and was SURE that I'd be the first to get to it. . .sigh. Foiled again. But I agree with everything you said, man. This movie is one hell of a good time, different and inventive, scary and intense. The actors, as pointed out, are fantastic (I fully believe that Nic Cage's Bad Lieutenant is worth a rental just to hear Shea Whigham say "oh yeeaah" the way he does) and play it completely straight, which I wish was more common nowadays. Excellent review - anyone who hasn't seen this should check it out!
The payoff for that bad guy was just dandy.
My quibbles were with some of the connections of the characters. It felt a little too much like Return of the Jedi and Luke finding out Leia was his sister.
Have you read the next Kilborn book, Trapped?
This might be one of my all time Top 10. The payoff was completely worth the initial slow pace of the movie. Denzel is a real bad-ass in this (and he did his own stunts.) I thought the world was believable and both Eli and Carnegie were the standouts in the film. Eli is the personification of the ultimate paladin. This is one really good flick for those willing to dive in to the story of someone truly dedicated to their calling.
Liked it, though not as much as you did. I think I'd have enjoyed it more if I'd been able to read it in one sitting (which is pretty clearly how Kilborn intended it to be read). A few plot twists in the last third didn't sit well with me, but overall enjoyable in a gruesome way (though Kilborn wisely leaves some of the more heinous acts up to the reader's imagination).
Has any actor been pinball bumpered around any harder in a six month period than Liam Neeson?
I like Taken. I intentionally strayed from Clash of the Titans. I missed A-Team. I guess he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but I've never been a big fan. I defer to our viewers.
Your argument here was my argument against Berdella. The movie wasn't bad, but it hitched its wagon to torture and gore and nothing else. Sorry to hear this was such a one-trick pony.
Wait...cops? WHat? I didn't see that on either of the endings I saw! Did I miss that?!

This movie rocked!

D'oh, double-post!

Never mind.

not yet. Kilborn is on my list. Loving the Nightside series by Simon R Green at the moment.

Without any spoilers, what was your take on the payoff pitch with the one villain and the surrounding wild life?
lol

I don't understand how Saw didn't make this list?
Wolf Creek made it but not Saw.... ?
Taken, Clash of the Titans, the A-Team.

EASILY one of the hottest women to grace television. Oh my....
Now the waiting begins!
Ordered! *nerdgasm*
